PXE stack on a floppy
Hi, The link given in your http://syslinux.zytor.com/pxe.php#config page points to the http://www.argontechnology.ca/rbfg/index.shtml site. This site talks only of Win2k and .Net server. There is no mention of GNU/Linux. Is it possible to use rbfg.exe to create a pxelinux bootable stack on a floppy. If so how ? Rom-O-Matic has a pxe loadable ROM image. Is there a way to use this to

SYSLINUX 2.04 released
I have released SYSLINUX 2.04, mostly to address the 2.03 MEMDISK bug. At the same time I'm getting the PXELINUX blksize and SYSLINUX installer changes out there, which hopefully is a good thing. New release mostly to address the MEMDISK corruption issue. Changes in 2.04: * ALL: Reclaim even more low memory by observing that comboot_seg == real_mode_seg is perfectly fine,

PXE boot woes
Hello list, I need to load windows automatically. I have Argon Technologies CMS (Client Management Systems). http://argontechnology.com I have always had problems with this product because it uses the old MS DOS NET Client 3.0 with a LAN manager stack to copy the files from a Microsoft share. What I need is a Linux boot floppy that will remove partition 1 and re-create it then format as fat

Preliminary 2.03-pre1 result...
It seems that 2.03-pre1 resolves PXELINUX problem on a reasonable number of hosts. Perhaps somewhat importantly this seems to include the RBFG PXE boot floppy, which did not work with 2.02. This was somewhat of a surprise, since it didn't exhibit the failure mode that I would have thought would have been the trigger of the bug. Instead, it was one of those stacks that would transmit packets

Thanks for pxelinux & memdisk
This message is from Luis F. Correia, who unfortunately could not post it himself to the list.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Hi! I would like to thank you, H. Peter Anvin for creating this wonderful set of tools. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of proper examples in the docs. Syslinux and affiliates would certainly improve

Problem with rbfg and pxelinux
Hello again and thanks for your support. I am trying out the pxe floppy - rbfg that you mentioned in your previous email for some machines that are not pxe capable but have supported network cards. It looks like it is going to work but then hangs. The dialog below is from a vmware session just for testing but I have the exact same problem on an old IBM box with a Intel e100 card. Here is

Problem with syslinux booting via network in floppy image
Hi as described on the syslinux pxe webpage: A multi-hardware boot floppy is included with Windows Server 2000 and 2003. A company called Argon Technology used to offer a free-as-in-beer updated version, but is seems to have gone fully commercial. This floppy (which can also be burned to a CD using El Torito in floppy-emulation mode), is known to work with PXELINUX 2.03 or later only I'm

PXE Bootdisk
Hello, I hope that I am applying this question to the correct place, if not I do apologise! I would like to create a boot floppy which mimics a PXE rom. In this instance I would like to boot very old non PXE NIC workstations and install them from our Windows RIS. Is it necessary that I create a some sort of full Linux boot cd to use for this purpose or is there a pre prepared boot disk already

Syslinux 3.83 released
Hi all, I have just released Syslinux 3.83. Special thanks to my employer, Intel, for letting me spend time on this. It is somewhat of a meager release despite four months, as most of the work has gone into the future-work branches. -hpa Changes in 3.83: * PXELINUX: clear memory before handing over to a chainloaded NBP. This may help avoid a bug in Windows RIS. *

PXE booting
Hi! I have been using pxelinux with memdisk to boot our workstations with our custom floppy, which is a MSDOS boot disk (actually it is win98) On one of the PC's I'm testing, a Fujitsu-Siemens which has an AMDtek based on-board network card and when PXE is activated, it gets an IP from the DHCP, then it finds the TFTP server, downloads pxelinux.0, executes it which causes the floppy to

RIS UNDI
Hello, I'm still trying to setup RIS (Remote Installation Service -w2k) with PXE Linux, but before that I must say that the mail list archive is a _good_ idea. Back to RIS. When I start from pxelinux memdisk initrd=risbootdisk.img I get an error: No UNDI Driver found. The risbootdisk.img is a bootdisk from Microsoft, which starts a RIS installation. When I boot from floppy it works fine,

Passing TFTP server IP address via pxelinux config file
It is possible to pass the IP address of a TFTP server to pxelinux config file. Scenario: I'm trying to network boot a thinstation image file (http://thinstation.sourceforge.net) via PXE. However, I'm using a DSL router as my DHCP server and Argon CMS (http://www.argontechnology.com/cms) as my PXE/TFTP server. When it initrd is execute and the network adapter is detected and TCP/IP

Using PXELINUX with Windows 2000 DHCP and TFTP
I noticed some links and suggestions on the SYSLINUX web site that reference how to run TFTP on Windows 2000 Server. Two of them suggest installing RIS, and one of them points to a third-party utility. I don't need to install RIS, because I don't want to run Windows setup over PXE. (In fact, I want to use PXELINUX to boot a DOS floppy and run Symantec Ghost to deploy an image.) Also, I

Newbie RIS Replacement
Doing a lot of RTFM lately about PXE. I have done xCAT builds but want to take the voodo out of the process so I can control and understand the whole system. I am new to PXE technology and so consider me ignorant. The current server is a MS RIS server and I am attempting to migrate our facility to use Linux / PXE instead. First stage: take existing DOS bootnet floppy and convert to boot from

Syslinux with two-disk set (boot+root )
Hello there. I use (and love!) your syslinux software - also pxelinux and soon isolinux. I have been using it for build deployment purposes for some time now, however I recently updated my kernel and added some additional drivers to it, making it too large to fit on a floppy along with my ramdisk. This is no problem for my PXE-enabled clients, of course, but for those machines that do not

PXELinux with 3C509 and mba-on-disk or with vmware
HI there. Probably my message is a bit off topic but I do not know where else I could be asking. . I'm running a linux terminal server with one client provided with a 3C509B ISA card. I boot the later with a floppy bootable rom image taken from http://www.rom-o-matic.net/ Everything is working just fine. I decided to try to set up a PXE network boot (I'll needed it for installing a

RIS and PXELINUX
Hi folks, I'm finally tired of dealing with floppy disks to control our remote installs and thought that PXELINUX sound like a great way to go. However, I've got multiple hurdles and I'd like some advice before I get myself dug in too deep... We currently have Solaris Jumpstart and Windows RIS running in the department and now we would like to intermix Linux PXELINUX booting. Any

memdisk issues with 3com cards
I'm using pxelinux in an interesting way, to load DOS boot disk images from a win2k RIS (Remote installation Service) to do various functions. Soem of the disk images are used for flashing the BIOS on pcs, but a specific few are set aside for booting MSDOS with MS lanman so that ghost can be run to load images to/from the lan. I've got 6 different disk images setup and the all work

SYSLINUX 1.74 released -- bug fix release
I tracked down the source of the "invalid kernel image" in 1.73 -- it turns out that in two different places I was accessing word-sized variables as dwords :( Consequently, SYSLINUX would reject valid kernels. PXELINUX/ISOLINUX are unaffected. Thus, SYSLINUX 1.74 is out. Expect a 1.75-pre1 quite soon. I'm working on a rewrite using 32-bit code from the very beginning, which
