Can anyone please tell me how to create a bootable 10MB hard disk image
for use with memdisk? I'd like to use FreeDOS. And I know little of
DOS.
Thanks.

memdisk hd images
How does one make a HD image? Floppy images are easy enough, but to have to
create a hdimage, you need MBR and partitions, etc... I want to create a
10MB DOS HD and boot it, how would I do this with Linux?
Thanks.

it himself to the list....

Hi!
I would like to thank you, H. Peter Anvin for creating this wonderful set of
tools.
The only thing that bothers me is the lack of proper examples in the docs.
Syslinux and affiliates would certainly improve

Supporting WinImage compressed images
I am using PXELINUX, ISOLINUX, and memdisk in my project
(http://unattended.sourceforge.net/). When memdisk gained support for
compressed images, I started using it because it is cool. I used gzip
to compress floppy.img to create floppy.imz, and all was good.
But now my users are complaining that they cannot use WinImage (a
Windows floppy image editing tool) to edit my floppy.imz files.
I have

Booting a no-emulation image
Is it possible to boot a no-emulation boot image from ISOLinux?
I am particularly interested in having the WinXP Install CD,
as one of the boot images in ISOLinux.

SYSLinux/ISOLinux question
Look into the original XP cd and see where NTLDR is located,
then place it on your cd in the same directory and it 'should' work.
I have created some 2000 XP boot cd's with integrated recent service
pack's and they still boot. But I do that with cdrecord+original
boot sector, not with any isolinux stuff...
But I hope this help!

memdisk: regression: 2.11 -> 2.12 (up to 3.07)

- isolinux:

results:
memdisk 2.11 -> boots
memdisk > 2.11 (up to 3.07) -> hangs
The following message is printed in the boot messages > 2.11:

SYSLINUX 2.01 released
Hello everyone,
I have released SYSLINUX 2.01. It's almost identical to 2.01-pre5, but
I figured it was time to get it out the door, especially since I won't
have time to work on it for the next few weeks.
Changes in 2.01:
* MEMDISK: Fix memory sizing bug when the ramdisk crosses the
16 MB boundary.
* MEMDISK: Add a "pause" option to stop

Boot DOS through Pxelinux
Hello list,
My set up is almost complete in booting DOS through PXELinux, but I need to
create a DOS boot image from (2 )DOS floppies. I've search the archives and
google
but didn't find any relavant info...
My current set up now works with the standard setup (with one DOS floppy):
kernel: memdisk
append: initrd=floppy.img ramdisk=10000
My goal to is create a floppy.img from 2 DOS

Creating HD Boot Images
I have been trying to track down information on building HD boot images for
ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and so far, haven't had a whole lot of luck.
I've found a number of sources describing the process of setting up
ISOLINUX and MEMDISK, and how to configure the boot CD to boot various
OS's. I've also read through Bart Lagerweij's BootCD/ModBoot pages, and

Trying to build ISOLinux Minimal CD
Okay..
I'm pulling out my hair, not having much luck trying to get ISOLinux
(syslinux) running on my IBM x345 Server...
I want to put my boot (syslinux) and root files (lib etc for modules) on
the CDROM and just boot off of it to use PartImage...
Not having much luck though..
For testing purposes I'm using the boot floopy I created using "The Linux

Dosemu and shorewall.
Hello..
I have a somewhat "funny" setup.
I use the dosemulator Dosemu for running a dos based packetradio nodeprogram
called Xrouter.
I setup dosemu to use my eth1 (lan) nic and i bring up a device called dsn0.
(this is all running on Slackware 9.1 without X)
insmod /etc/dosemu/dosnet.o
sleep 2
ifconfig dsn0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0
route add -host 192.168.1.2 dsn0

dosemu, not WINE, to run 16 bit DPMI
Some days ago, I asked for help running an old DOS program for a CA
attorney. It seemed to have a problem with 16 bit DPMI.
While we have had to (temporarily, I hope) compromise and use a licensed
copy of DOS 6.22 to run it with dosemu, it runs perfectly on dosemu.
Instead of usind a hdimage of freedos, which will not run the program, one
creates a dir, /var/lib/dosemu/bootdir, and fills it

Try dosemu (www.dosemu.org). Runs almost all non-DPMI programs and quite

Syslinux 3.70 - BSS DOS boot says: "Could not find kernel Image: linux".
Hello, I'm trying to create and boot a Win98SE-DOS OS through Hard Disk emulation. My src files are from a Win98SE 1440K floppy image file, with a x86 boot sector (dl'd from the net - I have no floppy drive and a slow net link 3.2KB).
I don't know what to put into the partition boot record of my image and how to load dos.bss properly (the docs explain for floppy images not for HD
