imap locking spool?
How does IMAP lock the /var/spool/mail/user file? Here's my problem: I'm writing a script to expire old or oversize mail through a series of archive folders. I don't want to take the whole server down to do this, nor does it seem like I would have to lock the user out entirely if I can manage to emulate the locks correctly. I am able to lock /var/spool/mail/user (and ~user/mail/*)

Multivariate skew-t cdf
Dear All, I am using the pmst function from the sn package (version 0.4-0). After inserting the example from the help page, I get non-trivial answers, so everything is fine. However, when I try to extend it to higher dimension: xi <- alpha <- x <- rep(0,27) Omega <- diag(0,27) p1 <- pmst(x, xi, Omega, alpha, df = 5) I get the following result: >p1 [1] 0 attr(,"error")

On my new Dell system, it's got a cardreader. More to the point, it's got an idiot menu key... *right* next to the right control key, and just where the annoying keyboard design has it cut down from the oversize space bar ASCII art <ctrl><WinDoze> <tall[ ]<tall<tall<tall <ctrl> Alt>[ tall spacebar ] alt> Win>

Hardware advice please?
I am quite new to Linux and have moved (almost) from a windoze NT4 environment. My present configuration is running SuSE V 8.0 with KDE3.0.5 desktop on two machines, connecting with Samba to an NT4 PC, and an occasional laptop or other PC that connects locally to the network. After a deal of searching, researching, and seeking advice I have decided to use Shorewall as my firewall.

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey, I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from the admin account when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment and all they want to do is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at the server Is there a way to do it? I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the driver

[PATCH] qemu pcnet emulation fixes
The attached patch to the qemu emulation of the pcnet hardware fixes several problems. It will now only read and write a transmit or receive descriptor once. It will correctly handle transmitting frames with more than two fragments. It will discard oversize frames instead of corrupting memory. I have tested all the changes I have made and even seen an improvement in receive performance from

[libnbd PATCH] tests: Enhance errors test
Let's check for a quite a few more errors. Among other things, this adds some coverage for a few things I've patched recently. --- And these enhancements set me up for my next fix: making NBD_CMD_DISC prevent future commands. tests/errors.c | 167 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++---- 1 file changed, 154 insertions(+), 13 deletions(-) diff --git a/tests/errors.c

ext4 and extremely slow filesystem traversal
Hello list, I have troubles with the daily backup of a modest filesystem which tends to take more that 10 hours. I have ext4 all over the place on ~200 servers and never ran into such a problem. The filesystem capacity is 300 GB (19,6M inodes) with 196 GB (9,3M inodes) used. It's mounted 'defaults, noatime'. It sits on a hardware RAID array thru plain LVM slices. The RAID array is

[Bridge] Any way of knowing a packet's been defragmented
Hello, Due to a recent change in the bridge code, we now need a way of knowing if a packet has been defragmented. The bridge code now checks on the packet size and drops packets that are too big for the output port. Defragmented packets will get refragmented later, so they shouldn't be dropped. I've been reading the defragmentation code and can't find an easy way of knowing if a

Booting another isolinux.bin with isolinux
Hi, I tried to build a multiboot DVD and decided to integrate the SuSE Linux LiveDVD. For several reasons the easiest way (as far as I can see) to do this is to boot the isolinux of the SuSE DVD with the "main" isolinux on my multiboot DVD. I do not want to use SuSE's modified version as default boot loader for some reasons! I decided to do it as follows (correct me, if

Starting isolinux from another isolinux
Hi, some time ago I asked if it is possible to boot one isolinux from another one. The reason: I tried to integrate a SuSE Live DVD on a multiboot DVD, but SuSE uses a modified version of isolinux. I tried the following: 1. I copied the isolinux stuff from the SuSE DVD to /boot/suselive. 2. I edited isolinux.bin and substituted "/boot/isolinux" by "/boot/ suselinux" 3. I
