Win XP home
Are there special issues when using XP home with Samba? I have a machine that when trying to log in as the user Mike, the logs show that it is trying to login in as Mike Barsalou. I tried making another user mbarsalou but I can't get it to authenticate properly. I was thinking it was a feature of XP home. Anyone have ideas? Mike

Booting a bootable CD-ROM
Hello, I am working on a legacy BIOS extension that is used to provide a centralised and managed boot process for a secure environment. Due to an assortment of reasons the access to hard disk / CD-ROM devices has had to be implemented at a low level (reading/writing IDE controller registers) rather than relying on the int 13h services provided by the system BIOS. Booting hard disks is working

WINE and older games
I know that there is always the push for the latest and greatest games to be working under WINE, but it's always been a little irritating to me, that as the owner of systems that tend to not be up to par to playing the latest and greatest, that older DirectX 7 and below games really don't feel like they've been giving the TLC that they may deserve. I've been an ongoing quest for

ISOLinux problem--Multiple CD-ROM's
Currently, I have 2 CD-ROM's, 1 IDE, 1 SCSI. ISOLinux works great on the IDE but fails out on the SCSI. I have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW with the BIOS loading the drive. Are you aware of a problem with this controller? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Health - Feel better, live better http://health.yahoo.com

CD-ROM won't boot. BIOS problem?
Hi, I'm having trouble booting my system using the SuSE 9.0 installer CD at ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.0/boot/boot.iso (ISOLINUX 2.06). My system is a Kontron cPCI-DT64 single board computer. The CD-ROM drive is an Adtron IC6C, has its own IDE controller and sits in another cPCI slot. System Details: System BIOS - PhoenixBIOS 4 Release 6.0, cPCI-DT64 BIOS 2.5 Adapter BIOS - Sil

Gameplay asks for the second CD
Wing Commnader Prophecy (multiple CD's) install doesn't give any problem (due to its small pop-up format window) and the game plays well until I come to the next CD. Game grabs full screen 800x600 svga. Pop-up window for second CD appears, but I can not switch with <Alt><Tab> to desktop. What did I already try? Read lots of items on this forum :D

Iso-linux boot fails on SCSI CD-ROMs?
Hi all, I'm currently using Gentoo Linux. It's boot CD uses isolinux. When I boot it, it gives me a nice LILO like prompt, but trying to start any image fails. Loading of the image and initrd loading works though. Even booting a memtest image fails. I get the following text during boot: ISOLINUX 2.02 2003-02-13 isolinux: Loading spec packet failed, trying to wing it... isolinux:

isolinux not booting - old 486 with SCSI CD writer
I am trying to install Debian Linux on an an old Intel Classic R+ computer that uses an internal Yamaha SCSI CD writer model CRW8424S connected to an Adaptec ISA SCSI card (I think its a 1542CP). The CD writer is is the only device connected to the SCSI card. The computer has one hard drive connected to the on-board IDE interface, a 1.44MB 3 1/2 inch floppy and a 1.2MB 5 1/4 inch floppy. The hard

Problems booting with SCSI CD
Greetings from beautiful Alabama. You have requested for people to let you know if they are having any problem: I am a professor in the Department of Mathematics, Auburn University. Among other activities, I do a lot of Linux installations on older computers, many of which are old Gateway Pentium Pro boxes which came with Adaptec 2940 SCSI cards and SCSI CD. I have burned several Slackware 8.1

Linux CD Stores
HI All, It seems that the days of ordering burned CD's of distros has faded. People just have fast internet now. I recall a number of times that I ordered Slackware CD's or others because it was just easier than downloading and burning myself. I am actually planning on ordering CentOS 5.4 media when available to support the project. Does anyone think these store make any money?

isolinux regression? / problem? v3.50 and newer.
Greetings, I have been using isolinux with Microsoft's cdimage.exe for my Utility / Preinstallation cds. I just upgraded from 3.36 to 3.55 and found it to be non functional. I didn't use the -debug version, it just hangs at the version banner. I went through several previous versions, and it appears that 3.50-pre23 is the last working version. I didn't see anything between that

Problems booting from cd
Hi, I have a cd building system that has worked for ages. I made lots of changes before I noticed that it now produces non-bootable cd's. I made changes to the files that went on the cd rather than the programs than buildings the isos (mainly mkisofs). The cd's don't fail on all machines. It seems to be a combination of motherboard and cd drive. At boot time, the cd light flashes

Samba, OSX, and USB vfat
OK. I'll setup the scenario. I'm trying to use a USB Vfat drive shared via samba to an OSX 10.5.8 client. When copying files from the Mac to Samba 3.0.26a I kept getting this error: You do not have sufficient privileges to complete this operation (or something close to that) And it would not complete the copy operation. This is resolved for the moment, but wanted to share some of
