Best Linux distibution for ruby on rails developement?
Hi,
I am on Kanotix linux since the first distribution was released by Kano.
However I am tired of the "if it can go wrong it will go wrong on
Kanotix" pattern.
Please recommend a distribution that by your experience is best for ruby
on rails development and need no hour-long tweacks for even "simple"
tasks.
Thanks,
Jan Martin

RSpec 0.8.2 pain, missing spec/rails?
Hi. I''m upgrading a project from an 0.8.0 pre-release gem to 0.8.2.
I''ve installed the 0.8.2 gem, and the rspec_on_rails 0.8.2 plugin:
ruby script/plugin install
svn://rubyforge.org/var/svn/rspec/tags/REL_0_8_2/rspec
When I try to run my specs though, I get the below error. It''s as if the
spec_helper cannot find "spec/rails". I''ve noticed that

lld mishandling R_X86_64_PC32 relocations
Hi,
I've tracked down what I believe is a bug in lld's relocation processing for R_X86_64_PC32 REL relocations.
I'm producing the object file in a slightly unusual way: I'm using objcopy on a relocatable i386 ELF object file to convert it to x86_64 which transforms a R_386_PC32 into a R_X86_64_PC32.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Assemble the attached bug.asm using nasm and note the

Streaming
Hi,
I have been browins through the archives for a bit now, however I cannot
seem to find any direct answer to a question I have. What streaming tools
are/will be available for ogg vorbis?
I found this quote on vorbis.com:
"What about streaming in Ogg Vorbis format?
Streaming is an important component of Vorbis. The format has
been designed from the ground-up to be easily streamable. The

[LLD/ELF] - Should we implement .note.gnu.property and/or Intel CET in LLD ?
Linux GABI [1] introduced new .note.gnu.property section which contains a program
property note which describes special handling requirements for linker and run-time loader.
LLD does not support .note.gnu.property yet.
GABI specifies 2 types of entries:
GNU_PROPERTY_STACK_SIZE and GNU_PROPERTY_NO_COPY_ON_PROTECTED:
* GNU_PROPERTY_STACK_SIZE: Its pr_data field contains an integer in the format

I think we should wait until there is someone wanting to use these features with lld.
Cheers,

Better fonts in wine?
I'm using wine 0.9.7 from the extras repository on Fedora Core 4. I've
installed a windows program using wine. The program works very well;
however, the fonts it uses are ugly and difficult to read. The rest of
my system (KDE) uses smooth, beautiful, anti-aliased fonts, and this
windows program is the only exception.
I read the FAQ on the wine homepage, and it says to copy the

PATCH: OpenSSH RPM spec file problems
Hello all,
There are two issues in OpenSSH RPM Red Hat spec file (against 2.2.0p1):
1. /etc/rc.d/init.d/sshd uses 'success' and 'failure'. These don't work
in Red Hat 5.2; else the spec file is fine. Initscripts requirement (for
the one in RH60) added.
2. If you're upgrading over SSH ltd's ssh-server, the server will be
stopped and sshd removed from chkconfig

Reloading Smb.conf automatically?
Just a few quick questions:
If I make changes to smb.conf, do I need to restart the SMB and NMB
services, or is it like Vixie Cron, where it'll re-read the file and adapt
changes every minute?
Why do I have multiple NMB instances running, but only one SMB?
Thanks for the help!

I'm currently fighting my way through the dovecot configuration pages and
endless options to see if I can just get my mail from the server. Thus far
no joy but dovecot seems to be working if I could figure out the
configuration. My process thus far has been :
1) read docs
2) try a config change
3) fail
4) goto (1)
I just saw an error while trying to read my /var/mail/dclarke good 'ol

locking and gfs
Hi there,I run samba as a PDC and tried to make this PDC high available with
redhat cluster suite and gfs. I experienced the following problem while
doing this:
If I set the option locking = no in smb.conf it takes about 4 minutes to
copy a file of 1GB size. If I set locking = yes it takes about 1 hour. Im
not sure if locking = no sets locking off for all locking options. At least
I need locking

tftp-hpa 0.28, 0.29 interoperability problem
Hi,
I have a tftp client which loads quite happily from a tftpd built
from netkit-tftp-0.16 but which fails to load from from a tftpd built
from tftp-hpa 0.29. In both cases, tftpd was built from pristine
sources and run from xinetd under Redhat 7.3.
[netkit-tftp-0.16 is the ancestor of tftp-hpa, predating HPA's
maintenance of same]
[the tftp client also..
