[gPXE] localboot 0 hang on some machines with gpxelinux.0
I'm bringing back an old thread, but I'm still having problem with this:
http://etherboot.org/pipermail/gpxe/2010-March/000571.html
The summary of that thread is that with gpxelinux.0, on some computers
the command LOCALBOOT 0 will hang the computer. Around the same time
as the original thread, there was a patch to add localboot -1. Also in
the original thread, it was proposed to use

Hi,
I need help about the stuff in nilo that gets burnt on a rom to make it a pxe bootrom. In etherboot, it's the file .rom and .lzrom etc.
please help me indentify, what component in nilo is used with an eeprom writer to create a pxe bootrom from a 27c512 eprom.
thanx and regards,

pxelinux with localboot + etherboot
Hi,
[I sent this mail again because my previous mail was rejected by ML
for some reason]
This topic is originally from etherboot ML.
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
pxelinux returns to PXE with localboot return code but
etherboot doesn't check it.
I was trying to change

Booting from a local disk fails..
Good day, Pasi.
Perhaps you'd be interested in joining the Syslinux mailing-list, if you haven't done so already.
Is part of the problem description that the 'LOCALBOOT 0' directive does not behave as expected?
If I'm not mistaken, I believe that 'LOCALBOOT 0' will return control to the computer's PXE boot ROM code. The PXE boot ROM code is then supposed to

pxelinux with localboot and etherboot
Hi,
(this is a topic from etherboot ML).
When we specify "localboot" for pxelinux loaded from etherboot,
this option doesn't work( it doesn't boot from local harddrive ).
I was trying to change etherboot side but it was not easy to me.
So I simply replaced pxelinux local_boot: with isolinux's one
with little modification.
It may be better that pxelinux.cfg also allows to

PXE floppy, PXELINUX and LOCALBOOT
Hi!
A friend of mine has tried a PXE floppy (build from the new etherboot
5.3.12) to load PXELINUX.0; a menu voice of the pxelinux.cfg use the
LOCALBOOT statement.
Selecting this statement, the PC retry to boot from the floppy... is
this normal?
The user expected that LOCALBOOT would have tried the NEXT boot device
(ie CDROM or HD), not the FIRST boot device (the floppy)...

Chain loading hard disk with gPXELinux
Hello syslinux mailing list,
I've been working on a kind of system administration tool (
http://twyna.sourceforge.net/) with a colleague of mine for our Computer
Science Bachelor degree internship. I hope I'm saying that right :)
We use gPXELinux to boot over a web service and it's all working
marvellously, except for the localboot bug. Until now we've used chain.c32
to solve

boot from local drive does't work
Hi, all
I can't boot from local drive on some machines(thinkpad x200 and
thinkpad x1 carbon) using
syslinux 3.05 or syslinux 4.05.
And i change localboot 0xffff to localboot 0x80, boot from local drive
is available.
I find "0x80 is the primary hard drive. The special value -1(0xffff)
causes ISOLINUX to report failure to the BIOS, which, on recent BIOSes,
should mean that the next

localboot.lua: a lua.c32 script that uses DMI data to decide between localboot/chainloading
Hi,
we use PXELINUX in our product to show a boot menu on client computers,
with options like "Boot from local hard disk", "Install Windows", etc.
Unfortunately, a lot of computers seem to have broken BIOSes and won't
boot with the LOCALBOOT command, and need to be booted with chain.c32
instead. We also have encountered some computers where it works only the
other way -

SYSLINUX-3.02 released
Tying up lose ends, and adding the ethersel module for the Etherboot folks.

Changes in 3.02:
* SYSLINUX: The "unix" installer now sets the MS-DOS
attributes (hidden, system, readonly.)
* COM32 library: build the .lnx (test modules for running
under Linux) as architecture native modules, in case

nilo -> tftp-hpa interaction
I downloaded nilo and oskit from www.nilo.org.
Added pcnet32.c linux-2.0.39 driver to oskit.
Compiled nilo with pcnet32 and produced boot floppy image.
Use it inside vmware vm. My aim is to be able to test pxelinux using
vmware+nilo and not a real machine.
Floppy starts, detects nic, receives ip from dhcp server, requests boot
image to tftpd-hpa, then crashes when talking to tftp. Is

LOCALBOOT type [ISOLINUX, PXELINUX]
On PXELINUX, specifying "LOCALBOOT 0" instead of a "KERNEL" option means
invoking this particular label will cause a local disk boot instead of booting a
kernel.
The argument 0 means perform a normal boot. The argument 4 will perform a
local boot with the Universal Network Driver Interface (UNDI) driver still

Minor idea - "Press any key to boot within 5 second" style of thing...
I like how some cds, such as the windows installer discs will skip
booting from the disc if you accidentally left the drive because they
require you to hit a key to make them actually boot from the disc.
I've kind of tried to emulate this behavior using chain.c32, but, it
requires me to specify which harddrive, and I'd rather see an
independant setup. I've tried localboot -1, but, it

Isolinux CD to Hard drive
Hi,
I've been using Isolinux Boot CD for a while now and it's working great. This weekend, I decided to install it on my hard drive so I can boot Isolinux of the Hard drive. I used the famous command : "syslinux -s c:" to initialize the drive then I copied all the .img file to that drive. Then I renamed the "isolinux.cfg" to "syslinux.cfg" to get to my
