nopassany parameter causing trouble
I'm running into an issue which I didn't expect to encounter.
When specifying the "nopassany" parameter to hide physical drives, I'm
getting different output from ELTORITO.SYS (v1.5, syslinux distro) such
that it fails.
My intent is a LiveCD functionality with a DOS RAMDISK program taking
over as drive C:, meaning either no FAT partitions on harddisks and
removable disks

Usin ISO Linux & Memdisk to create a Viritual Floppydrive that Linux & Windows can load driver disk from.
With windows, if your "virtual" floppy is drive B:, then windows
will treat it specially. It will basically copy the contents into
memory from real mode using int13h, knowing that it will not be
able to access the device after it switches to protected mode.
I asked a few days ago about support for making a memdisk image
behave as drive B:, but got no answer. :-(

Hi all,
Just thought i would post this for some future referance for some members. I
know when i first tried to install pxelinux that we can into all sorts of

MEMDISK bug in Syslinux 3.10
MEMDISK included in the freshly released Syslinux v3.10 is unfortunately
broken. v3.09 works properly.
Scenario:
Isolinux --> MEMDISK --> FDBOOT.IMG (FreeDOS 360KB diskette image).
Then try to access drive B: , which normally is your first diskette
drive with driveletter A:.
However, in this case MEMDISK occupies A:, and real diskdrive becomes B:
Bug:
when accessing B:, you're asked

ISOLINUX help requested (checksum error)
Hi Mr Anvin,
after downloading the Freedos bootable cd, which now uses your projects
(ISOLINUX & MEMDISK) instead of Bart Lagerweij's DISKEMU (www.nu2.nu), I
contacted the creator of the freedos cdrom. I was interested in how he did
make that cd bootable.
Now I understand it a bit.
As I'm a MS Windows user, I had to figure some things out.
However, upon booting I get a beautiful

syslinux 4.06pre11 issues
I've recently purchased an SSD with the goal of having a portable
MS-Windows installation, something which Windows 8's "Windows to Go"
feature allows (install to, and boot/run from, USB flash device).
Housing the SSD in an external Zalman VE300 case allows presenting ISO
files as hardware CD/DVD/BD drive with inserted medium. Having the ISO
files present, it's tempting

Sweave Makefile issue
Dear R-specialists,
I am trying to create a Makefile that will first convert all my .Rnw
files into .tex files and then, that will run the LaTeX compiler to
produce a pdf document. This issue has been discussed before. Hence,
I've basically adapted a Makefile I found at
http://n4.nabble.com/R-Sweave-R-and-complex-latex-projects-td810020.html#a810023
to make it compatible with a Windows

Writing my first CRAN vignette
In fact my first vignette full stop.
I am intending to use Sweave. I have read the Sweave documentation
and section 1.4 of the extensions manual and apart from (a) do not
use split = TRUE (b) and include all the source components, there
does not seem to be anything CRAN specific.
1 - Am I missing some other documentation?
2 - If I use a package from CTAN would that be considered within the

feature request/reminder - alias / bootsector
HPA, a longterm reminder. See below.
Can you also make a LABEL ignore other labels if no KERNEL statement is found in between? That way you could define multiple aliasses for an entry.
label foo
label bar
label memtest
kernel memtestp
foo ignores 'label bar' , 'label memtest' and executes 'kernel memtest'
bar ignores 'label memtest' and executes 'kernel

CentOS 4.3 Server spontaneously rebooting (over and over again)
Hi there,
This post has also been posted in the Hardware and General forums but I
thought it might be wise to post it here as well!
My CentOS 4.3 (upgraded from CentOS 4.2 installed from Linux Magazine's
April 2006 issue) server is rebooting spontaneously (over and over again).
It started while I was copying from USB-device (iPod) to another
USB-device (Freecom Portable-Hard-disk) but it

USB ports in Wine
I use devices like GPS' MP3 players, Memory sticks etc via the USB port
and some need to be sinked to the device via a windows program. I have
used wine to run many of my windows apps but when it comes to accessing
the USB port through a win-apps sink programs it does not see the USB
port. Is there a way to configer the USB port to have win-apps see it?
I also have a win-app running called

COM32 module for detecting Memdisk?
I know there's a module to check which syslinux bootloader was used, but
is there also a module for detecting MEMDISK?
Basicly I want to use the same isolinux.cfg for a CD which boots an ISO.
Issue is that the inner ISO also uses same Isolinux (+ menu), which
isn't very user-friendly.
So:
CD --> ISOLINUX (menu) --> MEMDISK CDROM.ISO --> ISOLINUX (menu) -->
diskette

Delete files with system command on Windows 7
Under MacOS I use the following script to process my latex documents:
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
bibtex document.aux
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
pdflatex -halt-on-error document.tex
rm *.aux *.bbl *.blg *.log *.nlo *.thm
How can I realise this under Windows 7?

Error: C stack usage is too close to the limit
Lately R has been behaving strange on my Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) machine,
with occasional segfaults. Today something else and reproducible
happened:
If I type the code below (meant for calibrating data), I get the error
message that "the C stack usage is too close to the limit".
calcurve <- cbind(1:2e4, 1:2e4, 1:2e3); #dummy curve, real one is more complex
