new user
Hi,
I'm a beginner of R.
I find it absoluty fantastic, flexible and very extensible.
For the moment only a curiosity.. Why the name R? (are they perhaps the
initials of Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka?, or is the name correlated with
S language?)
Sorry for my poor question but I am very curious
Thank in advance

Question about memdisk
Peter,
I am trying to get memdisk to work with grub and have run into a
problem. Grub loads memdisk into the 0x9000 segment and then starts it
at location 0x90200. I run into problems in the first printf statement.
It turns out that printf uses a switch statement that compiles into a
jump table. When I reach this jump table, I believe the code is jumping
into hyperspace due to the jump table

using the function call getData(paste(names(args[1]), "=",
sQuote(args[[1]]))). The argument passed is- id='1240'.

Ices0 and ShoutCast (and KiSS)
I have successfully set up a system with Ices0.4 and IceCast2.20 (and
Tunez). It plays well using mpg123 or WinAmp.
But I would like to use also my KiSS DVD player for the stream, and I have
not been able to do so - It appearently needs 110% SHOUTcast
compatibility.
So I tried the IceCast2.3.1 - but it still didn't like the KiSS (or the
other way around). In stead, I have added a SHOUTcast

SCO Openserver Patch
I downloaded the Openssh-2.3.0p1 file and ran configure only to have it
fail reporting the lack of libz. I found that configure was failing
beacuse the test program did not include the libtinfo and libm which are
needed to resolve references in libprot. I made changes to the configure
script to add those libraries for SCO Openserver and then tried to compile
the programs only to run into another

Passing argument in nested function calls
Please, do not ask why you would do this. I have simplified my complicated
code to just the basic problem occuring to be able to make it easier to
understand the actual problem.
I have two function getArgs() and extractArgs() - code and test results
provided below.
I test them using getArgs(id = 's1002') from the command line.
getArgs() prints the name of the argument as id and the
