Can't configure wine drives.
Hi, I've installed a game from a CD-ROM, (by typing 'wine setup.exe' in the console) but I cannot get my wine installation to recognize that the disk is in the drive and actually start the software. If I launch the program, it complains that the disk is not present. If I launch wineconfig, the Drives tab is entirely blank, with the exception of this message: > > failed to

Newbie problems with isolinux
Hello everybody I would like to build a bootable CD from my running SuSE 7.3 Kernel 2.4.10. The goal is to have a prebuilt system on CD which would install everything from a compressed image on the same CD, some kind of an emergency or initial setup CD. So I startet with an directory called root_tree, placed the isolinux directory and the binaries there. I copied the initrd from the /boot

Virtual CDROM for Unix?
Has anyone implemented a "virtual cdrom" facility as offered on windows? That is CD images are cached & compressed on hard disk and shared across a network. See: http://www.winmag.com/library/1996/1196/11r24a.htm I have not found any news of a Unix solution. I would like to offer one on a Linux server to Windows clients. It should not be hard to implement with Samba... Thanks

cd drive not found
By reading messages on this list, I think that I have figured out that in gnome, you should be able to find directories like media/floppy jerry@linux-8ldg:/media> dir total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 48 2006-08-18 20:18 floppy Since the only sub directory I have in the media directory is floppy, does this mean that I have not configured the computer correctly? I cannot get to the cd drive

HVM disc image switching
I''m using Xen 3.1.0 on Debian etch, kernel 2.6.18-4-xen-amd64. One of the guests runs Windows XP. I am trying to install an application (Autodesk Inventor) that spans two DVDs. The config file for the domain in question contains: disk = [ ''phy:/dev/volgrp0/halebopp,ioemu:hda,w'', '',hdc:cdrom,r'' ] I ran "xm block-list halebopp --long" and

Slow login to Samba domain
Hi, I have noticed that the Windows 7 machines that I have recently installed and joined to our domain take about 40 seconds on average to go from sign in to the desktop displaying. I can't find any explanation for the delay. When the machine are in a work group they login very quickly and the XP machines login at a normal rate. I have searched and not found any articles that are relevant.

I just installed Wine into Ubuntu 10.4, from Ubuntu's Software Center (the installation instructions at WineHQ didn't work). I've tried installing a couple of Windows programs from CD (a set of clip art images from Nova Development Corp, and Willmaker Plus from Intuit). Every executable I've tried generates the following standard error message: Archive:

Sorry to bother you about this but after trashing 8 CD-Rs I'm out if ideas :-). I've not been able to get this working with anything other than the standard Slackware kernels.... I made a copy of the Slackware 'live' reference filesystem CD (8.0), added my own 2.2.16 kernel with crypto, then wrote the CD, as per the instructions. I've checked and double checked all the

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware. Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording is a different matter. The drive shows up as
