allow-notify SUBNET and request-xfr inconsistency
Hi list, We are observing strange behavior of nsd v3.2.9 acting as slave DNS server. The environment is set up as follows: 0. We are using 172.16.0.0/16 subnet; 1. Primary Master server at 172.16.100.114; 2. Slave server at 172.16.100.115. The config file is in /etc/nsd-dns-slave.conf; 3. There may be also other Master servers im the given subnet. Now I want to permit DNS NOTIFY messages to

nsdc update implementation details
Hi, I have a query regarding running a manual update of nsd via: # nsdc update My NSD server is accepting notifications from two servers. From my nsd.conf: # master 1 allow-notify: X.X.X.X NOKEY request-xfr: AXFR X.X.X.X NOKEY # master 2 allow-notify: Y.Y.Y.Y NOKEY request-xfr: AXFR Y.Y.Y.Y NOKEY Are both servers sequentially queried each time

nsd-4.0.0b5(and rc2) and changing zone from master to slave ?
Hi, I'm doing some quick tests with nsd-4.0.0b5 and (rc2). And found something strange when changing (nsd-control reconfig) one zone from: zone: name: 10.in-addr.arpa zonefile: /zones/empty.zone to zone: name: 10.in-addr.arpa request-xfr: 192.168.122.12 NOKEY allow-notify: 192.168.122.12 NOKEY zonefile: /zones/slave/10.rev and doing nsd-control reconfig. [PATCH] nsd-patch: fix segfault after renaming slave zone
Hi all, we have discovered a segfault in nsd-patch when renaming slave zone in nsd config file if some data for this zone still exists in the IXFR diff database. In my case, the zone "black" was renamed to "blackinwhite": > root at ggd115:/cage/nsd/var/nsd/zones#nsd-patch -c > /cage/nsd/etc/nsd-dns-slave.conf > reading database > reading updates to database >

About timestamps in logs and zonestatus
Hi Peter, NSD processes updates in batches. xfrd receives the [AI]XFR and schedules a reload for the main process, which in turn forks new serve children. The served-serial is updated after main reports success, the commit-serial (update written to disk) is updated before the reload (to explain the serials). The difference in timestamp can be explained by the fact that NSD looks up if the serial

Recent inability to view long filenames stored with scp via samba mount
Greetings Samba team, It has been a long time since I needed to ask a Samba technical question. Server and workstation are both running the latest Samba packages via Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I recently applied the security updates... actually that was yesterday I applied them. > samba (2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.23) xenial-security; urgency=medium > > * SECURITY UPDATE: client code can

error: cannot write zone : Permission denied
Hello, NSD 4.8.0 running on FreeBSD 13.2-RELEASE-p9 and serving both plain and DNSSEC signed zones. I noticed Permission denied errors in the logs for all domains listed in nsd.conf: [2024-01-12 12:20:05.710] nsd[8655]: info: writing zone domain-plain.org to file domain-plain.org [2024-01-12 12:20:05.710] nsd[8655]: error: cannot write zone domain-plain.org file domain-plain.org~: Permission

Question on slave
Hello, I am switching from djbdns and have a (probably dumb) question before going live with nsd: When syncing between master and slaves, am I supposed to see new files appear in the slave's "zonesdir" directory? Because, as you might expect, I see nothing here. Is this behavior normal? From what I understand, the slave "caches" the data in /var/lib/nsd/nsd.db

live migration with DRBD devices
Hi all, I want to do live migration of domains using DRBD block devices for synchronisation between the two Xen hosts with Xen 2.0.7. I''ve written a script ( block-drbd ) which binds / unbinds DRBD devices for specific domains (with DRBD, only one host can write on a drbd device at the same time). This script sets the current host as master (bind) or secondary (unbind) in a DRBD

Unsecured zone transfers and open resolvers
Hello, My question is not related to NSD in particular, but I have seen here on the list a lot of people that work for TLDs and other Registrars and Registry operators I thought it would be a good place to ask this question. It is about DNS though, not completely off topic :). I have encountered in my DNS studies a few name servers that let you transfer zones they are authoritative for. The

The --inplace is very different from the behaviour of --partial when resuming a complex case transfer.
Hi all, >From the manpage of rsync, I can see the following descriptions: --inplace The option implies --partial (since an interrupted transfer does not delete the file) So I do the following testings on the `--inplace' and `--partial' for resuming a file with the following steps: 1- rsync ftp.cn.debian.org::debian/dists/wheezy/main/binary-amd64/

tinydns to nsd
I have used tinydns for many many years now and it has always worked very well. I like its simplicity: 1 text file is converted into a cdb database, there's no master/slave environment (all nameservers are equal) and synchronisation is done by rsync. Tinydns is run by runit, a supervise system. I'm looking at NSD now and I think I can use NSD the same way I use tinydns. The only

[Advice] CentOS6 + KVM + bonding + bridging
With the current talk on bonding, I have a few questions of my own. I'm setting up a KVM host with CentOS 6.3 x86_64 on which I'd like to attach the VMs to a bonded interface. My target setup is one where two GigE NICs are bonded and then the KVM bridge interface is attached to the bonded interface. Initially I tried to use the balance-alb mode (mode6), but had little luck (receiving
