samba becomes unreliable on upgrading to SOlaris 10
Hello,
we've been more than happy with Samba 3.0.22 on our Solaris 9 machines,
but when we upgraded to Solaris 10 users are experiencing a multitude
of XP desktop problems: icons disappear, start menu will hang because a
few items link back to a samba share, many XP windows write delay
problems, the whole desktop will hang. It seems the samba server will stop responding.
Is there anybody out

plot 4th variable contour lines on filled.contour
Hello,
I have a dataset with 4 variables, each consisting of a vector, all with
the same length. I start by interpolating the first three variables
using the function "interp", and plot the interpolation successfully
using "filled.contour". I then interpolate the first two variables and a
fourth using "interp" again, but when I try to overlay the contour

Many STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE
I'm in the process of trying to track down the cause of frequent Delayed
Write Failures on our network. Most seem to be from database-like files
(e.g. firefox/thunderbird sqlite files) that are stored in the users
Application Data directory. The AppData directory in our case is on a
mapped network drive and excluded from the set of files copied back and
forth as part of the roaming

samba on macintosh
Hi all. New to this list so ... sorry if this is old, but I have searched
honest.
I have been asked to install samba on some (60) macintoshes. The macs run
OSX10.2. I have the developer tools and samba 3.0.0. Configure works but
make crashes out with libsmb/clikrb5.c139: #error
UNKNOWN_GET_ENCTYPES_FUNCTIONS followed by 4 more errors ((caused by the
first?).
I cant see any ref to this or options

Samba Breaks with ACLs
Hello,
We are running Samba 3.0.23c on Debian.
Over the weekend, we updated out file server to Debian's kernel 2.6.18. We
had previously never run a kernel with ACL support enabled. Since the
upgrade, we are seeing very strange permission behavior. It appears to be
related to POSIX ACL support in Samba.
It seems that what's happening is this.
We have a number of files that are

profiles?
Sometimes a user logging in takes a while. I suspect the
time delay is due to the size of a user's profile. Where
is the profile data kept and how can this data be scrubbed
or compressed?

Microsoft Active Directory Connectivity
We are looking into implementing Samba as a Domain Structure within the
authority, but we may have to have a Microsoft Active Directory
structure in place as well. We will keep away from it as long as we can
but may end up having to put it in. I want to gather information before
this happens.
Can you please direct me to any information you have about Microsoft
Active Directory within a Samba

uw-imap compatability hack?
Hi all
Apologies if this question has already been asked before...
I'm migrating from a uw-imap setup where the mail folders were in a
subdir mail/ in the users' home directories.
All of the clients are configured with 'IMAP server directory' set to
mail/ (Thunderbird) and it would be difficult to change this on the
clients (there are 1000s of them)
I want to use maildir and I

Fully kerberized mail system
Hello,
Is it possible to use Dovecot in a fully kerberized mail system?
We have configured authentication via kerberos, now we would like the
imap deamon to access a kerberized nfs file system. Has any one any
experiences?
Regards,
Matthew.

Protecting files - help?
Hi,
OK, I'm perplexed by this and I know it has to be possible, but having
poured through the Samba docs and various Samba books, I can't find
anything other than what I've tried....
I need to protect certain files within a users home directory, so they
cannot be deleted. Some of these files need to be readable and writeable
so I can't restrict it with Linux file permissions.

Convert plugin
Hi,
I'm trying to get old mail from /var/mail/<user>, where <user> is the
(sometimes) huge mailfile, not a directory, converted to the maildir
INBOX in ~/Maildir. Users have no ~/mail directory; they were supposed
to use pop3 only.
I'm trying the example from the wiki:
plugin {
convert_mail = mbox:~/mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%n
}
but have still not succeded. I tried

squared semi-partial correlation
Hi, can you help? I am really struggling to find the answer to the
following question.
I have conducted a standard multiple regression using SPSS. The dependent
variable is CE, and the independent variables are Ibelieve and Tbelieve.
Because the independent variables are highly correlated I have examined the
squared semi-partial correlations. I
understand that the Ibelieve squared semi partial

Compiling --with-ldap on Solaris 9
I am trying to compile the small Samba 3.0.2a source on Solaris 9 to use
ldap. The ./configure run reports: "WARNING: libldap is needed for LDAP
support". The Solaris installation has it's native libldap installed in
/usr/lib, but the configuration does not seem to find it. Would anyone know
what I am missing? Thanks...dlb

Strange print spool "ghost" job?
Hi all,
I'm currentlly using samba-2.2.2 together with LPRng-3.7.4, and have a
problem with a printjob that woun't go away. I use samba for a small
file/printserver for 10 people using win98se clients, and it's been
working very nicely. As I upgraded from samba-2.0.6, I sent out a
testpage from one of the win98se clients to the two printers (hpljet 6L,

1.2.11 nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir problems
Hi chaps
We're using the mbox_snarf plugin to snarf mail from /var/mail/%U to
~%U/Mail/inbox and using dotlocking on all accesses. This is on Solaris
with NFS mounted home directories.
We're getting a few (very few) of these for just a couple of users:
Error: nfs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) failed: Device busy
Which, having searched, I see some discussion of in the

R-beta: Re: Post-hoc tests
Matt,
Here's a Bonferroni-corrected multiple one-sample t-test that I wrote
some years ago. It took a while to get it into R, as na.omit doesn't
seem to handle vectors and I had to write a quick kludge (na.remove).
Another more general point was that I discovered that the help page for
t.test gives the name "parameters" for the degrees of freedom, as in S.
However, the name
