UFS on zvol: volblocksize and maxcontig
Hi all!
First off, if this has been discussed, please point me in that
direction. I have searched high and low and really can''t find much info
on the subject.
We have a large-ish (200gb) UFS file system on a Sun Enterprise 250 that
is being shared with samba (lots of files, mostly random IO). OS is
Solaris 10u3. Disk set is 7x36gb 10k scsi, 4 internal 3 external.

ZFS/UFS/TMPFS and extended attributes inconsistent behaviour
As part of looking into a minor issue with the group listed when using
runat(1) on a UFS filesystem for Johannes (my Google Summer of Code
student work on new basic file privs), I discovered an even bigger issue
with UFS and extended attributes.
I''ve cc''d ZFS discuss because I used ZFS as the comparison and I believe
that ZFS is acting correctly but even then it might not be

Confusion regarding ''zfs send''
I''m playing around with snv_128 on one of my systems, and trying to
see what kinda of benefits enabling dedup will give me.
The standard practice for reprocessing data that''s already stored to
add compression and now dedup seems to be a send / receive pipe
similar to:
zfs send -R <old fs>@snap | zfs recv -d <new fs>
However, according to the man page,

I can see a case for and against allowing this when considering it
purely at the feature level as users/admins see things.

Setting ACLs
This is possibly the dumbest question I have asked ever, but how do you
set ACLs on files within a ZFS filesystem?
Trying to use setfacl(1) diverts me to the acl(5) manpage; well, I know
that I need to use NFSv4 style ACLs, but where is the utility to do so?
This is on Solaris 10 Update 2.
Thanks,
Ceri

NFS issue with ZFS
I have Solaris 10 U7 that is exporting ZFS filesytem.
The client is Solaris 9 U7.
I can mount the filesytem just fine but I am unable to write to it.
showmount -e shows my mount is set for everyone.
the dfstab file has option rw set.
So what gives?

ZFS and UFS performance
We are running Solaris 10 11/06 on a Sun V240 with 2 CPUS and 8 GB of memory. This V240 is attached to a 3510 FC that has 12 x 300 GB disks. The 3510 is configured as HW RAID 5 with 10 disks and 2 spares and it''s exported to the V240 as a single LUN.
We create iso images of our product in the following way (high-level):
# mkfile 3g /isoimages/myiso
# lofiadm -a /isoimages/myiso

/dev/random problem after moving to zfs boot:
I have one thing happening now at boot which must have happened during the migration to zfs boot. I get an error message about /dev/random: "No randomness provider enabled for /dev/random. Use cryptoadm to provide one." Does anyone know how to fix this?
Another thing: Is it possible to upgrade to a higher build when using zfs boot? Is this what LiveUpgrade does? And is there a step by

[LLVMdev] clang generated executable uses only x86 general purpose registors
Hello Everyone
I just want to generate an executable using clang++ or clang which uses
only general purpose registers from x86. The generated code should not use
mmx or any other special purpose register.
Thanks a lot

?: zfs mv within pool seems slow
I have just upgraded my jumpstart server to S10 u2 b9a.
It is an Ultra 10 with two 120GB EIDE drives. The second drive (disk1) is new, and has u2b9a
installed on a slice, with most of the space in slice 7 for the ZFS pool
I created pool1 on disk1, and created the filesystem pool1/ro (for legacy reasons). I them moved my
data from the original disk0 UFS file system to pool1/ro. Initially I

Issue running Dovecot in Docker Container
The conf.d files are not included. I have added !include conf.d/*.conf to
director.conf and reloaded the dovecot and director services.
conf.d/10-logging also has the following lines:
log_path = /dovecot.log
info_log_path = $log_path
debug_log_path = $log_path
The /dovecot.log file still shows empty. Nothing is being logged to that
file.

Gzip compression for ZFS
Adam,
With the blog entry[1] you''ve made about gzip for ZFS, it raises
a couple of questions...
1) It would appear that a ZFS filesystem can support files of
varying compression algorithm. If a file is compressed using
method A but method B is now active, if I truncate the file
and rewrite it, is A or B used?
2) The question of whether or not to use bzip2 was raised in
