dapptrace and firefox
/usr/sfw/bin/firefox is a shell script which calls run-mozilla.sh which calls firebox-bin. Is there a way to call dapptrace on firefox in order to trace firefox-bin? This message posted from opensolaris.org

dtrace overhead and proper measuring technique
I''m trying to time a function within Firefoxwith a pid$target probe [2]. e.g dtrace -Zqw -x dynvarsize=64m -x evaltime=preinit -p 13954 -s menu- construct.d -s sigcont.d elapsed: 12.7942481ms cpu : 7.7911194ms count : 40 times I''m also measuring Firefox startup time by running it arguments like this: ... file:///Users/joelr/work/mozilla/startup/startup.html#`python

hotuser and hotkernel
G''Day Folks, While I have a few minutes online (which is rare at the moment - travel), let me post about a couple of new scripts. I''ve just uploaded them to http://www.brendangregg.com/dtrace.html. They are to profile user-level functions and libaries; and kernel-level functions and modules. They sample, rather than trace (which can be both good and bad). Here is hotuser

dtrace causing sigtrap?
Just to let people know what my big picture is, I''m trying to write a script that will let me run a program, and name a progeny of that program that I want to debug. My script should find the first occurrence of that progeny, and run it until it finishes initializing the runtime linker, but stop it before it runs any shared library startup routines. (Failing that, I''d be okay

vtimestamp skew, after restorectx()
Hello, I''m using the below dtrace script to capture the flow and times of kernel functions, from an ioctl() call. After an entry into restorectx(), the trace of startimestamp - vtimestamp makes a dramatic jump downwards. Here''s the snippet showing the jump... 6 -> di_checkmem 8 220176600 6 <- di_checkmem

expected system load from DTrace scripts/probes
Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the type of load common DTrace scripts would cause on a system if run 24x7? I know "common DTrace scripts" and their underlining probe calls a vague statement. So for the lack of a common and establish set of scripts in the OS, I''ll use the most popular right for my question...the DTraceToolkit from Brendan Gregg. Which by the

interactive web app
I have an arbitrary program written in any language, and it is a binary (ie foo.exe), that will print out output to stdout constantly every 3-5 seconds. Is there a way that I can have a web application designed in rails that will print the output of this program to the browser every 3-5 seconds in realtime, preferably even in an ajax manner. thanks -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

putting a running app into trace mode
Suppose I have a USDT probe in Firefox and that I''m trying to catch the startup with a probe like this: proc:::exec-success /execname == "firefox-bin"/ { start = timestamp; } and stop tracing when Firefox hits this USDT probe: mozilla:::main-entry { exit(0); } How do I put the running firefox-bin into "trace mode" so that my USDT probe fires? Thanks, Joel

Dtrace not working for processes running after a couple of hours
Hi, all, I''m a newbie on dtrace and the problem I am having is: For processes which have been running for more than a couple of hours, dtrace doesn''t seem to be able to trace(I waited for at least one hour and didn''t see anything happening). However, it works every time for a relatively new process. Any insight or help will be appreciated. This is my machine:

[LLVMdev] memory bug triggered in getFoldedCast
Hi all, My program is crashing somewhere in LLVM code. It's one of these C/C++ memory bugs that I don't have much experience with... having programmed too much in high level languages. I'm not sure how to track it down. If someone can tell me what could be getting free'd in the getFoldedCast function, that might help me. Here is the error when I run my program: bamboo(49749)

WineLib Seg Fault?
A question for the WineLib guru's :) I am using the wine-20011108 build with Mandrake 8.0 and with this version of wine clean compiled and installed I can run several windows programs very successfully :). Then I use winemaker to create a WineLib 'so' file and the compile and link again runs clean. But when I run the resulting 'so' file using this command line: $
