system-config-display wrongly sets up Viewsonic VG730m monitor
I originally set up this monitor with an analogue lead. Everything seemed fine, so I didn't check xorg.conf at all. Then I bought a digital lead, and since then the monitor blinks. Running system-config-display identifies it as a 1280 x 1084 CRT monitor. It is an LCD monitor. That model is not on the drop-down list, so assuming that a specific driver wasn't available for it, I

4.4 on Dell D620: widescreenresolution?
Hi, Did anyone manage to get 4.4 working on a Dell D620 laptop? The thing has a 1440x900 LCD screen, but I don't get X the work with that resolution. (lspci: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)) Google suggested to use '915resolution', which I installed (915resolution-0.5.2-1.el4.rf), but that doesn't help. FYI: IBM Netvista locking up
Hello, Having not been able to run a kernel without locking up since 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL, I think I have found the 'fix'. There are numerous post about this and all suggest its related to ACPI. For me, its APIC. I added the following to grub.conf: noapic apic=off. Been up now 4 days, 22 mins. running 2.6.9-78.0.8.EL. Previously I could get maybe 4 - 6 hours before locking up. Another

Can I remove lib-elf.so.1?
I am cleaning up my 4-STABLE system. After a fresh installworld, I am looking at files that did not get touched by the install. Is it safe to remove all such files? In particular, I am looking at /usr/libexec/lib-elf.so.1, which has the schg flag set. I am afraid to remove this for fear of making my system unbootable. Could somebody please reassure me that it is ok to noschg and remove this old

Asterisk on IBM Netvista 2800 8364-EXX?
Hello I'm looking at my options to build a compact, silent, headless Asterisk server to handle one or two FXO ports. Out of curiosity, I got one of those babies on eBay for 20E: http://silicon-verl.de/home/flo/software/netstation-8364/ Before I spend time on this, can someone tell me if... 1. it's easy to install Linux on those things (am willing to add a CF-to-IDE adapter to use a

CentOS 4.4-IBM Netvista Performace Problems, help needed.
I've got an odd situation that I need some advise on. I have two computers that I am planning to use as a cluster. I initially started with some left over Compaq Presairos with 667MHz CPUs. I loaded CentOS 4.3 and later updated to 4.4. Things ran normally, albeit slowly. I had an opportunity to upgrade to a pair of IBM Netvistas with 2.26 GHz CPUs, I did this by transferring the

Comparing two gff/gtf files : de novo transcripts v/s reference
Hi All I am wondering if people based on their experience could share what methods one could use to compare two gff/gtf files. The reason why I want to do so is that we have constructed a RNA-Seq based transcriptome and would like to compare it with reference transcriptome we had from in-silico approaches. Ideally we are looking to find out 1. new genes we see 2. transcripts where the

I'm waiting to see if my current monitor actually dies. It's an Asus 1920x1200 monitor that I like rather a lot, but it occasionally acts a bit flaky when coming back out of sleep mode. NT - Not allowed from this workstation
I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the 3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1). When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I will recevie an error message saying that:

Searching database using foriegn keys
I''ve read a lot about the ORM magic of Active Record which allows you to address a foriegn key object directly... e.g. I have a books and people table where books has a column called person_id If I get myself a Book object called mybook I get to the person object associated with this book by saying book.person which is awesome and I love it. My question, how can I say "Go
