plain text stories: motivation number 27
This is mostly theoretical, but ... I''m starting to use lighthouse (http://llighthouseapp.com) for my projects at work. I''m organizing iterations as milestones and stories as tickets tagged to a milestone. Lighthouse offers an API so that you can write access the data in your account and write apps to process that data. I think you see where this is going. It seems to me that

TextMate bundle not compatible with nested specs for running focused tests?
Seems like the recently updated (and wonderful) textmate bundle does not take into account running individual tests that are in nested specs. Anybody else notice this? Any ideas? Pending Scenarios
Hi there, newb q: The "pending" support for spec''s and steps is nice. I''m just wondering why a scenario itself can''t be pending? I.e. it seems to me like it would be nice to write up scenario titles for scenarios as you think of them, and for low-priority fringe scenarios leave the steps unwritten until it comes time to implement the scenario? Is there a

Cucumber and autotest
Hey all, Does anyone know how to disable the cucumber autotest support on a project? With this commit: http://github.com/aslakhellesoy/cucumber/commit/93470e2580b5e3cfe0c8eb3fce86e21bf8afa219 The cucumber features are worked into the autotest cycle automatically. This is cool, but on some projects I don''t think it fits well with my red->green->refactor cycle. Any ideas on

Warning: integrate_views and nested description groups
describe MyController do integrate_views describe "A common base senario" do it "no longer integrates views" do be_careful end end end integrate_views affects an attribute in the class formed by the describe factory method. The second describe generates its own class, so integrate_views is OFF at that level. I''ve already spent far, far too much

cucumber - mark a step as pending
I love the way I can throw a call to pending() in the top of an unfinished RSpec example and stop it from failing the build. Is there a similar way to do such a thing with good ole'' cucumber? cheers, Matt ---- http://blog.mattwynne.net http://songkick.com In case you wondered: The opinions expressed in this email are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of any former,

Cucumber and multi-line steps
Hi all, Where can we add tickets for Cucumber? While trying to migrate a current project I ran into a snag.. specially that cucumber does not support multi-line steps like the edge rspec story runner (which makes sense since this was such a new feature to the story runner.) Anyways, I don''t have enough time at the moment to dig into it myself so I''d like to at least log it.

Not sure why this is failing
I am not sure why the tests don''t see the call of the new method for the Address class. It can be seen in the controller method where the Address.new is called. >> @address = Address.new(params[:address]) What am I doing wrong? Thanks for the help. Here is the error message: Spec::Mocks::MockExpectationError in ''UsersController handling POST /users should create a new

Lighthouse and Engine Yard sponsorships
Hey all, I''m very happy to announce that ActiveReload[1] has generously offered to sponsor a lighthouse[2] account for rspec. We''ll be moving ticket tracking there. We''ve already got the account set up and will soon make it public. We''re also going to be getting a sponsored slice at Engine Yard[3] to host source control, which will be either mercurial or git

should_receive twice and arguments
Hi all, I have a method calling Klass.create! two times with different arguments (this happens in a class reponsable for reading in a csv file) I want to test those like this: in one test: Klass.should_receive(:create!).with(:name => "foo").once in another: Klass.should_receive(:create!).with(:name => "foo2").once This doesn''t work because the

Story Runner: Readability of output with multiple params
Fistly, many, many thanks for RSpec and Story Runner. Minor request to improve readability of output Given a scenario item with multiple params.. Eg. And "the user belongs to", "Joe", "Acme" do |user_name, company_name| The readability of the following output is less than ideal.. "And the user belongs to company,Joe Public, No Videos" It would be

sharing specs in a subclass
Hi I''ve spec''d a class and they pass. Now I''d like to assure that any subclass of this class also passes the same specs. Any suggestions for a clever way to handle this? I''d prefer to keep the existing specs as is (eg instead of moving everything into shared behaviors, or doing something to all the ''describe'' lines) thanks linoj

Installation Trouble
Hey all, I''m new to BDD and rspec, but I am very intrigued. I tried installing rspec and rspec_on_rails into my Rails app, but I am having some trouble. I chose to install both as plugins, as the documentation suggests. I checked out the CURRENT tag from svn, and copied the rspec and rspec_on_rails directories into my app''s vendor/plugins directory. Then I ran

When to use BDD/TDD w/ external libraries
Test First Development is great...But should you use it when you are adding classes/methods on to external library that doesn''t have an extensive test suite? I noticed that the rspec plugin for autotest has no specs. David Chemlinsky said something to the list a while back that has been stewing in my subconscious - that you develop software differently using Test First

helper spec not finding rails core helpers
Hi, My helper specs were going ok until I added a call to a rails DateHelper method in one of my helpers http://api.rubyonrails.com/classes/ActionView/Helpers/ DateHelper.html#M000574 The helper runs fine from my view templates, just dies in the spec test. I boiled my question down to a simple (not too useful) example. I''m not sure what I''m missing. #
