proper use of textConnection
Colleagues,
Using R2.7.0 in OS X, I am having trouble understanding the command
textConnection. My situation is as follows:
1. I am trying to read a lengthy file (45000 lines) that has headers
~ every 1000 lines. read.table (or its variants) fail because of the
recurrent headers.
2. My present approach is the following:
a. use readLines to read the file, save as an array
b. use grep

Systematically biased count data regression model
Dear all,
I am attempting to explain patterns of arthropod family richness
(count data) using a regression model. It seems to be able to do a
pretty good job as an explanatory model (i.e. demonstrating
relationships between dependent and independent variables), but it has
systematic problems as a predictive model: It is biased high at low
observed values of family richness and biased low at

Servreg $loglik
Dear R-experts:
I am using survreg() to estimate the parameters of a Weibull density having
right-censored observations. Some observations are weighted. To do that I
regress the weighed observations against a column of ones.
When I enter the data as 37 weighted observations, the parameter estimates
are exactly the same as when I enter the data as the corresponding 70
unweighted observations.

significantly different to warrent a new thread. Using the dataset below,
is there a way to generate a bar/line plot for the TACC/Catch of every lvl
of stock? i.e. OR1,OR3,OR5. The picture at the bottom of this post is an
example of the bar/line plot for OR1 which was generated when OR1 was the
