FW: IMAP proxy with dovecot and hostname
Good morning dovecot users
I read in http://wiki.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy
that dovecot need ip address in host field and then
"This field is required. Note that currently it's required to use an IP
address since no DNS resolving is done.".
I use a qmail cluster and Courier IMAP. In this system used the ldap
field mailhost for proxy functionality

Win 2K Compatibility
Dear Sir or Madam
We are currently using Samba 2.0.5a on an IRIX 6.5 Unix server to allow NT 4
clients to map to the server. Will this version of Samba support a Windows
2000 professional client on:
a. A Windows NT 4.0 domain.
b. A Windows 2000 domain.
Can you recommend the version of Samba required, if the above is not
supported.

tink solution and mesh
Hi.
I read that one feature of tink vpn solution is the Automatic Full Mesh
Routing support that is defined as: "regardless of how you set up the
tinc daemons to connect to each other, VPN traffic is always (if
possible) sent directly to the destination, without going through
intermediate" hops.
What this means?
I don't understand how this work. Can you please give me some

rsync error with novell server
Hi guys!
I'm using rsync to update my work and mail
from my Unix-workstation to my home directory
on a Novell-Server...
This is what I get as a message after the rsync is
finished
rsync error: partial transfer (code 23) at main.c(578)
I understand that rsync was trying to chown a
directory on the server which Novell doesn't support
(or our admin doesn't :}) ... however, I

possible suppression for output ?
Hi,
Whenever i sync certain files in ( like /etc/tnsnames.ora ) from our
hostA to hostB, rsync always print out
/etc/
it prints out the files modified.
it does that for every directory name in the path of files i update...
Is there a way to suppress that output, since it is not modifying that
directory ?
Thanks

Hi everyone!
I have dovecot (1.2.11) on one our external mail servers acting as a

external mailserver but I can't seem to get a secure connection now to
the internal destination imap server (between external mail server and
internal imap server, it's going through port 143). Running tcpdump, I

winbind rid changing user's UID and GID numbers - Samba 3.6
Greetings,
For a number of samba iterations I've been using Samba with winbind to
keep AD users's UNIX UIDs and GIDs the same across several systems. I
don't run the Active Directory set-up and those that do are NOT going to
make any alterations to make my life easier. So i have always used
idmap_rid to keep consistent UID/GID numbers across all my UNIX machines.
This has

Preserving uid/gid on remote machine with non-root permission
Is there a way to backup files to a remote machine on which I don't have
root permission, while preserving their uids/gids? I know that only the
super-user can set the owner and group of a file, so what I am actually
looking for is a tool that would store the actual uids/gids of all files
that are backuped by rsync in a kind of meta-file. This file could then
be used to restore the files

UID/GID CentOS 6 to CentOS 7
Hi,
we are upgrading some servers from C6 to C7 with a lot of user accounts
on them (UID>=500).
CentOS 7 has MIN_UID/MIN_GID 1000, Centos 6 has 500 in login.defs.
Can I change in /etc/login.defs MIN_UID/MIN_GID to 500 for C7? So I
could just grep the users out from passwd/shadow/group files and append
them to the Centos7 passwd/shadow/group files.
Can this do any damage to CentOS7 later
