General questions about VGA passthrough
I have a question regarding VGA passthrough.
If I understood correctly, the only way to have VGA passthrough is hiding
the VGA from the Dom0 and giving full control of it to one guest. This
means, the guest should just take ownership of the device and start using it
(and therefore take control of the screen, too), right?
I read that one can dynamically hide PCI devices from the Dom0. What would

Certain PCI passthrough devices don't work
Hello list,
Using the mainline 3.5-rc6 kernel and yesterday''s xen-unstable,
I''m having trouble passing in some PCI devices. Everything else works
smoothly.
Attached are some of the relevant logs and configurations. I did
notice from the qemu logs that all the problematic devices have "IRQ
type = INTx" whereas those that are working have "IRQ type =

Dom0 freeze on HVM DomU Windows reboot with VGA passthrough
Hi,
I''m doing VGA passthrough for an ATI (HD 6770) graphics card to
a DomU Windows. The passthrough itself is working. However, everytime
when I reboot the DomU Windows, the whole machine freezes.
I see no error messages from Dom0 kernel or the xen qemu log
(or perhaps I haven''t got the most verbose debugging turned on?).
Though from what I can tell, the the freeze happens

VGA Passthrough of Radeon 6990? Crossfire in general?
Hello List,
Has anyone performed VGA Passthrough with a Radeon 6990 card?
Secondary to that, has anyone done a crossfire setup on an HVM DomU?
I''d like to run Xen on top of my desktop and put Windows into a VM,
shuffling my setup around a little bit, but I''d really like to get the
full VGA BIOS support that passthrough offers.
Thanks,
Andrew Bobulsky

MMIO emulation failed & successful reboot
Hello list,
Did an update to the latest AMD drivers
(11-9_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl) and was pleasantly surprised to find
that I can reboot my passthrough domU!
Firstly, the reboot was triggered involuntarily shortly (20
seconds) AFTER the SUCCESSFUL driver update. The only thing logged was
this:
(XEN) io.c:194:d5 MMIO emulation failed @

vga passthrough
How does vga passthrough of the primary graphics card work?
And what is the current state of vga passthrough of a secondary graphics card?
If I passthrough the primary graphics card does that leave dum0 headless and my monitor attached (via the passed through card) to the HVM domu?
I am planning to build a computer that will support HVMs with vga passthrough, using the following:

Xen 4.2.1. Intel Integrated VGA passthrough. BSOD in Windows guests.
Hello,
I configured xen with enabled passthrough primary VGA card (Intel Integrated
graphic controller HD 3000) and audio controller (Intel HD audio) to hvm
guest.
I also installed GPLPV drivers to improve performance.
And it works for Windows XP (x86) and Windows 7 (x86_64).
But I get a BSOD, when I try to load a disk or network subsystem or start
Windows 7 performance test.

VGA Passthrough with Xen 4.3-unstable?
Dear All,
I have tried to apply VGA passthrough patches hosted at Jean David
Techer''s website to Xen 4.3-unstable. However, I cannot get VGA
passthrough to work with Xen 4.3-unstable. Are the VGA passthrough
patches hosted at David Techer''s website incompatible with Xen 4.3-unstable?

VGA passthrough to HVM Linux domU
I am having problems getting my 64-bit Debian Squeeze (Xen version 4.0, Linux Kernel 2.6.32) dom0 to pass a Gigabyte HD 5450 graphics card to an HVM 64-bit Arch Linux domU. I have two Gigabyte HD 5450 graphics cards connected to my Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard. I can pass the secondary card (the one the bios doesn’t show up on) to an HVM 32-bit Windows XP domU (I thought that would be the hard

VGA passthrough on Paravirtualized VMs
I understand that VGA passthrough isn''t officially supported on
paravirtualized VMs, but it will work with certain video cards. Does
anybody have any information about which video cards/chipsets are/are
not supported for paravirtualization, what the criteria for being
supported/unsupported is etc.?
I''m also interested in understanding the technical problems to getting

VGA passthrough and new nVidia cards
Hi,
I''m trying to build a (probably) secondary graphics passthrough install
on an HP Z420. We don''t need earth-shattering performance.
Unfortunately, the cards on the Xen tested list are going EOL and won''t
be available from HP for the lifetime of the product we are building.
HP have said that the approved graphics cards for the Z420 going forward
are the nVidia

Reporting success with Intel HD4000 VGA Passthrough
Hi,
I was able to do VGA/PCI Passthrough on an i7-3770 integrated GPU
HD4000 to a Windows 8 HVM.
Xen 4.1.3 running on a Debian Wheezy (kernel 3.2.0-3-amd64 and
3.5-trunk) dom0, xm toolstack and pci-stub were used. Other PCI
devices such as USB 2.0 controller and audio were also passed to the
domU.
The hardware used is the following:
Intel Core i7-3770 CPU,
Intel DQ77MK Motherboard with

Re: Virtual gaming/workstation desktops using KVM VGA passthrough?
Hi Alex,
The first bit of advice that I was about to give was that you should
have a look at a particular thread on the Arch Linux user forum. But
as it turns out, the article that you found (which seems really
well-written) already mentions that thread, and in fact even links to
one of my comments on that thread, namely this comment:

PCI/VGA passthrough and function level reset (FLR)
I''m wondering if FLR really must be supported by the PCI card for
PCI/VGA passthrough to work or if it will work anyway. I have read in
the VTdHowTo that trying to pass through hardware without the FLR
feature will result in an error. At the same time I read on a pdf
document on the VMWare website
(http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/vsp_4_vmdirectpath_host.pdf)

PCI-E Passthrough - Missing VGA-Output
Dear Users,
in my case, i want to passthrough a pci-e graphiccard to a hvm guest.
In the bios i have to select whether the onboard graphic is used as
primary vga output or the pci-e one.
If i define the onboard one then the pci-e card gets unavailable in
xen, furthermore lspci did not show it anymore.
if i set the pci-e card as primary, it comes up fine in xen, but if i
hide that card which is
