RAID 1: missing operating system
Hi all,
I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with Centos4.2 on HP Netserver E60. The raid
consists of 2 9,1GB SCSI disks.
The partitioning and installation process went smoothly, but after it finished
and rebooting, there is an error: Missing operating system.
The partition is:
/
/home
swap
Bootloader is on device md0.
What could be possibly wrong?
Thank you,

Centos vs FC
Hi all,
I hope I'm not starting a flame war.
I'm installing Centos 4.2 for a mail server. I've been experimenting with,
Centos before, and now wanting to put it into a real action as mail server.
Can someone pls tell me the up and down between Centos and FC?
I'm familiar with FC4 and some things that I like from it:
1. The available packages are abundant. Very easy to find

The use of Centos logo
Hi all,
A friend of mine asks me to teach him Linux using RHEL5. But, I insist that
rather than using RHEL5, we use Centos5 instead, and he agrees :)
So, I'm thinking of giving him a "certificate of attendance" and putting
Centos logo on it. May I do that? What is the guidelines?
Thank you :)

About md5sum
Hi all,
A friend of mine gives me a copy of Centos5 DVD.
I then make an iso of it using dd if=/dev/cdrom of=centos5.iso command.
I then check it using sha1sum.
But the result is different than of listed in Centos website.
Should it the same? Or we simply cannot compare sha1sum from burned DVD to
that of 'unburned' iso file?
Thanks.

Anyone using sendmail?
Hi all,
Does sendmail support virtual-non-unix-users setup?
Any URL about it?
I tried to ask in #sendmail channel, but nobody answered.
I google around, but, all url only talks about virtual domain and mapping to
unix users.
Thank you,

2 DHCP server in one subnet
Hello all,
In the network there is already a W2K server serving as DHCP server for the
network. Then we want to implement LTSP, so we need to setup another DHCP
server, right?
Due to unexpected reason (little by little migration of w98 clients to LTSP),
we need to keep the W2K server running in that network. Can we then have 2
DHCP server in the same subnet, only serving pre-determine clients

Advice on setting up Raid and LVM
Hi all,
I'm setting up Centos4.2 on 2x80GB SATA drives.
The partition scheme is like this:
/boot = 300MB
/ = 9.2GB
/home = 70GB
swap = 500MB
The RAID is RAID 1.
md0 = 300MB = /boot
md1 = 9.2GB = LVM
md2 = 70GB = LVM
md3 = 500MB = LVM
Now, the confusing part is:
1. When creating VolGroup00, should I include all PV (md1, md2, md3)? Then
create the LV.
2. When setting up RAID 1, should I

How to preserve capital letter
Hi all,
I'm not sure whether it is samba related, but I've got this situation:
I'm sharing a clipper program with samba, and then user access it using dosemu
installed in each workstation.
The program runs fine, except, when it creates a temporary file, it creates
the filename in small letter (not in capital letter when run in DOS). Seems
that the program is having trouble with

To redirect any message into /dev/null
Hi all,
I'm running a script in my crontab like this:

However, crontab always sends a message to root (me) about the above script.
How do I stop it from sending any notification?
Thank you very much,

Anyone still uses "MO drive"?
Hi all,
I'm trying to use an old MO drive in Centos5.0. It's connected to an adaptec
scsi card. From dmesg, the card seems to be recognized, but it
doesn't "create" the sda device from the MO drive. Is there any more steps I
must do? From Yahoo search (since it has older archive than google), it seems
that Linux should be automatically recognize and setting up the scsi

custom iptables chain jumping
Hi all,
When we create a custom chain in iptables, should we specifically create a
rule to 'jump back' to the previous chain?
For example:
iptables -A INPUT -j CUSTOMCHAIN
iptables -A CUSTOMCHAIN rule1
iptables -A CUSTOMCHAIN rule2
Should we add:
iptables -A CUSTOMCHAIN -j INPUT ? Or, it will automatically go back to CHAIN
when there's no more rule?
Thank you very much,

Metamail
Hi all,
I''m setting up Hylafax with Centos4.2.
Seems like it requires a package called metamail.
I visited rpmfind.net but confused which package should I choose.
There are one for RH4.2, RHEL AS 2.1.
Curiously, there''s none for FC.
Thanks.
