break axis using plotrix
Dear all, I am trying to plot some data with differing range in y-values with type="b", adding error bars and break the y-axis into two parts, one lower part from 12 to 20, and one upper part from 34 to 40. I have tried to follow the basic ideas from the script provided here by Jim Lemon: http://finzi.psych.upenn.edu/R/Rhelp02a/archive/56487.html My attempt looks like this:

changing scale range after an axis break
Hello, I am constructing a boxplot but have a very wide range of values (zero - ~28000). I have placed an axis break at the 8000 mark but would like to have a different scale above the break that ranges from 8000-28000. Right now my axis is so large that the boxplots are only represented as lines with the outliers above. Does anyone know where I could find code that explains how to do this?

Axis break with gap.plot()
Hi everyone. I'm trying to break the y axis on a plot. For instance, I have 2 series (points and a loess). Since the loess is a "continuous" set of points, it passes in the break section. However, with gap.plot I cant plot the loess because of this (I got the message "some values of y will not be displayed"). Here's my code: library(plotrix); #generate some data x

plot: skip a range of axis
Hi, I am using plot to show scatter points in 2_D. in my data, there is no data between -1 and +1 in x-axis. I want to skip this region, i.e. x axis becomes [-Inf:-1, 1:Inf]. can any one tell me how to do? YU [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Labels on a pyramide
I am using pyramid.plot() from the plotrix package. I have something like this ############################################ xy.pop<-dados$masfr xx.pop<-dados$femfr #agelabels<-dados$femlab xycol<-color.gradient(c(0,0,0.5,1),c(0,0,0.5,1),c(1,1,0.5,1),11) xxcol<-color.gradient(c(1,1,0.5,1),c(0.5,0.5,0.5,1),c(0.5,0.5,0.5,1),11) xylab<-dados$maslab xxlab<-dados$femlab

plotting with gap in x-axis range
Hi, I need to make a plot of data from multiple epochs, and so I'd need to introduce a couple of breaks in the x-axis not to have too many empty space in my plot. I discovered a function in the package "plotrix" which makes breaks in axis, but it is not what I was actually looking for, because it doesn't really introduce the a range gap or rescale the plot according to the

Break in the y-axis
Hello all, I have been having trouble getting a break in my y-axis. All of my data points are up around 100-200, but the graph has to start at zero, so i would like to remove all the white space using a break symbol. I have been able to get the break and labels to be correct, however, I can't seem to get the data to match the axis anymore. I must be using the axis.break() in plotrix

axis.break on Date-x-axis in lattice xyplot
Dear list, i am using the following code to produceĀ  a lattice xyplot, but the axis.break-function is seemingly not executed. break an axis.POSIXct
Hi I like to use "axis.POSIXct" to plot days from 2006 till 2008. But I only have datas for the summer months. Is it possible to get two axis breaks, to have not so long distances without points? thx Christof

Putting 2 breaks on Y axis
R plotting experts: I have a bivariate dataset composed of 300 (x,y) continuous datapoints. 297 of these points are located within the y range of [0,10], while 2 are located at 20 and one at 55. No coding errors, real outliers. When plotting these data with a scatterplot, I obviously have a problem. If I plot the full dataset with ylim = c(0,55), then I cannot see the structure in the data in

Help with graphs in A4 size
Hi, I need to generate complex graphics which have to be shown in the plot window but also in pdf file, and they must have A4 size. This is the reason why I use width=8.27 and heigth=11.69. The problem is that I don't make it runs when I put something (text, lines, and so on) outside the plot region. I mean if I run the following code, it works perfectly, because the text "My

How to make a break on y-axis of a histogram chart using R?
Attached is a histogram chart with a break on y-axis which my friend made for me using phot shop. Do anyone know how to make such a break using R? Thanks in advance. breaking the x-axis and having two different x-axis labels
Dear R community, I have two questions concerning barplots that I struggle to resolve: 1) How can I break (interrupt) the x-axis (e.g.: have it display values from -100 to -90 and 90 to 100 only)? 2) I overlay two horizontal barplots: one with negative values only and one with positive values only: I would wish to mark the two datasets separately on the x-axis (or some other way). If I use

pyramid.plot in plotrix, axis labelling
Hi, I've been looking at ways to make pyramid plots in R. I like the pyramid.plot method in plotrix as it seems the simplest to use and building them in ggplot looks a bit more code intensive than I'd like, being as I'm new to R. This package does pretty much what I need it to do, however I can't seem to scale the x axis labels. The other labels scale fine with labelcex. I

Line Breaks and Axis breaks..
Hello all, I have two questions. One probably has a very simple answer but I have checked the FAQ, other websites and still have not found an answer. I am new to using R. My very simple question is how to do line breaks when creating an axis title (xlab) ? I have a few that are too long and they get cut off... I found on the internet the "/n" function but I think I must be using it

Y-axis range in histograms
Hi, I'm trying to create a histogram with R. The problem is that the frequency is high for a couple of x-axis categories (e.g. 1500) and low for most of the x-axis categories (e.g. 50) http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n2237476/LK3_hist.jpg . When I create the histogram, it is not very informative, because only the high frequencies can be seen clearly. Is there any way I could cut the

font.lab and font.axis
Hi all, In the course of ongoing improvement of plotrix, I was alerted to the fact that setting, e.g.: par(font.lab=3, font.axis=3) only seems to work for "plot" (and maybe other functions), but not for "axis". par(font=3) works for everything (except the title, which is probably specified separately), but there are probably situations in which someone doesn't want

Axis Breaks with ggplot2
R-help - I'm trying to create axis breaks similar to this : http://www.r-bloggers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/bar-chart-natural-axis-split1.png . Is there a way to do this in R? Here's my code thus far: structure(list(condition = structure(c(2L, 1L, 3L), .Label = c("con", "exp", "unedit"), class = "factor"), trial.avg = c(4.04583333333333,

Breaks in y-axis of histogram using lattice
Hello R-Users, I am plotting several histograms to demonstrate zero-inflated data using lattice. Because there are so many zeros, it is difficult to see the observations of non-zeros on the graph (i.e. the y-axis scale is too large). I would like to break the y-scale so that the non-zeros at least show up on the graph. Below is an example of the code for the histogram (e.g. I have several
