trouble with ifelse statement
Hello, I apologize in advance for not providing sample data, I'm a very new to R and can't easily generate appropriate sample data quickly. I'm hoping someone can offer advice without it. This code below works and does what I want it to do, which is for a given row in my dataframe, where the variable "peak.cort" = max, it makes the value of another variable

question
Hi guys, I am using the cor() function to see if there are correlations between March cortisol levels and December cortisol levels and I'm trying to figure out if the function is doing what I want it to do. Each sample has it's own separate row in the CSV file that I'm working out of. March Cort and December Cort are different columns and they come from separate samples, therefore

Difficult sample for vorbis w/ audible artifacts
I came across an interesting test sample the other day while trying to compress some of my music and trying out different encoders. You can grab the sample in question from here: http://www.animus-facticius.org drone_clip.zip is a 9 second clip of the track where the artifact is most apparent, drone_short.pac is a 1 minute clip of track. The sample is from the song "Drone" from

Access denied when associating a driver with a printer
Hi, I'm trying to get point & print working against a 4.0.10 Samba server (using the sernet packages if that's relevant). I have the printer itself setup and I've uploaded the driver, but associating the uploaded driver with the printer causes Windows to give an error: "Printer settings could not be saved. Access is denied". I'm seeing the same symptoms on XP and

Modem Pooling with Samba
Has anyone used samba v2.0 to share pooled modems. I have a large pool of identical modems available as a single TCP service on a terminal server with Samba running under HP-UX 10.20 . Any ideas how to make this modems an accessible share for Windows 95 clients Reply to jcort@medisys.co.uk

Account Unknown for users with Samba 3.0.11/14
Hi, I've got a problem with a samba server I inherited which I can't solve. I think it's the configuration rather than the version because I have the same problem with a 3.0.14 and a 3.0.11 Samba server with almost identical configurations. Both authenticate against LDAP, one has an old smbpasswd file which should no longer be in use. The issue is that when I click

clara - memory limit
Dear all, I'm trying to estimate clusters from a very large dataset using clara but the program stops with a memory error. The (very simple) code and the error: mydata<-read.dbf(file="fnorsel_4px.dbf") my.clara.7k<-clara(mydata,k=7) >Error: cannot allocate vector of size 465108 Kb The dataset contains >3,000,000 rows and 15 columns. EOF error at io.c line 165
Hello All, I keep getting rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (1074142 bytes read so far) rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(165). Does anyone have any idea of what could cause this? I've gotten the same error on two seperate machines. One UltraSparc running Linux and the other a SparcStation running OpenBSD. We have an x86-SMP system running linux on the

mean for subset
Hello, does anyone know how to take the mean for a subset of observations? For example, suppose my data looks like this: OBS NAME SCORE 1 Tom 92 2 Tom 88 3 Tom 56 4 James 85 5 James 75 6 James 32 7 Dawn 56 8 Dawn 91 9 Clara 95 10 Clara 84 Is there a way to get

passing known medoids to clara() in the cluster package
Greetings, I have had good success using the clara() function to perform a simple cluster analysis on a large dataset (1 million+ records with 9 variables). Since the clara function is a wrapper to pam(), which will accept known medoid data - I am wondering if this too is possible with clara() ... The documentation does not suggest that this is possible. Essentially I am trying to

Printing to screen a matrix or data.frame in one chunk (not splitting columns)
Hello, I saw this nice trick I want to replicate but I lost the source and I hope one of you can point me to the solution. My problem is that I don't know the correct words to query this. When I print to screen a matrix or data.frame the columns are split and printed below the previous ones; even though I have plenty of screen left. E.g., > my_matrix = matrix(runif(30),nrow=3,ncol=10)

How to access to sum of dissimilarities in CLARA
Dear All , Since dissimilarity is one of quality measures in clustering , I'm trying to access to the sum of dissimilarity as a whole measure. But after running my data using CLARA I obtain : 1128 dissimilarities, summarized : Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. 0.033155 0.934630 2.257000 2.941600 4.876600 8.943700 But I can not find the sum of dissimilarity. How can i

Clustering large data matrix
Hello, I have a large data matrix (68x13112), each row corresponding to one observation (patients) and each column corresponding to the variables (points within an NMR spectrum). I would like to carry out some kind of clustering on these data to see how many clusters are there. I have tried the function clara() from the package cluster. If I use the matrix as is, I can perform the clara

CLARA and determining the right number of clusters
Hi everyone I have a question about clustering. I've managed using CLARA to get a clustering analysis of a large data set. But now I want to find which is the right number of clusters. The clara.object gives some information like the ratio between maximal and minimal dissimilarity that says (maybe if lower than 1??) if a cluster is well-separated from the other. I've also read something

cluster-gruop-match with other attributes after na.omit
Hi, i want a cluster-analysis with clara, but getting an error because in cldat are NA's. Error in clara(cldat[, 1:3], 4) : Each of the random samples contains objects between which no distance can be computed. cldatx <- subset(cldat, select=c(A,B,C)) cldaty <- na.omit(cldatx) Now , clara works but cldat has ~193.000 obs and cldatx without NA's ~75.000 obs. How could i match

Clustering with clara
Hello everyone I am trying to use CLARA method for finding clusters in my spatial surface temperature data and noticed one problem. My data are in the form lat, lon, temperature. I extract lat,lon and cluster number for each point in the dataset. When I plotted a map of cluster numbers I found empty areas in the map. The point is that the number of points that were assigned a cluster number are

high memory allocation
Hello, I have trouble with my cluster analysis using package "cluster". "diana" and "agnes" both seem to try to allocate memory directly, so I can not use virtual memory of my Windows2000 operation system. I do have 320 MB of memory. But they claim about 600 MB. Do I have a chance to do the analysis with my amount of memory. Thanks for all comments, I did not find a

CLARA
I need informations about the clara routine. The on-line doc say that the argument stand is a logical, indicating if the measurements in x are standardized before calculating the dissimilarities. Measurements are standardized for each variable (column), by subtracting the variable's mean value and dividing by the variable's mean absolute deviation. If we note STAND = TRUE, I suppose that
