Debian Squeeze packages available for Gluster 3.4.0-alpha2
I've made packages for Debian Squeeze for Gluster 3.4.0-alpha2, they are available on http://torbjorn-dev.trollweb.net/gluster-3.4.0alpha2-debs/. They built and installed successfully, and have been running nicely for a couple of hours, but your mileage may vary. The Debian packaging is on http://torbjorn-dev.trollweb.net/gluster-3.4.0alpha2-debs/glusterfs-3.4.0-debian.tar.gz. I took the

Gluster on ZFS: cannot open empty files
Hi everyone, I've got glusterfs-server/glusterfs-client version 3.4.0final-ubuntu1~precise1 (from the semiosis PPA) running on Ubuntu 13.04. I'm trying to share ZFS (ZFS on Linux 0.6.2-1~precise from the zfs-stable PPA) using GlusterFS. When creating the ZFS filesystem and the Gluster volume, I accepted all the defaults and then: - I enabled deduplication for the ZFS filesystem (zfs set

eager locking
Hi everyone, I have seen in (GlusterFS 3.3) the gluster cli a eager locking option (cluster.eager-lock) and there is no reference to this option in the documentation. Is it in relation with this post http://hekafs.org/index.php/2012/03/glusterfs-algorithms-replication-future/ ? Enabling this option seems to boost write performance but is it without danger ? Thx Anthony Garnier

Hi, I'm still testing glusterfs for me. I#m using ubuntu with the semiosis ppa I setup a cluster of two bricks: glustersv001:/export/daten glustersv002:/export/daten So far so good. Now I want to test some issues: 1. remove one server from brick: Think that wouldn't work with: gluster volume remove-brick daten replica 1 glustersv002.mvz.ffm:/export/daten commit cause it should more

Gluster 3.3: Unable to delete xattrs
Hi, I'm running the latest qa build of 3.3 and having a bit of trouble with extended attrs. [root at compute-0-0 ~]# rpm -qa | grep gluster glusterfs-geo-replication-3.3.0qa20-1 glusterfs-core-3.3.0qa20-1 glusterfs-rdma-3.3.0qa20-1 glusterfs-fuse-3.3.0qa20-1 Firstly, is it mandatory to mount ext3 file systems with 'user_xattr'? The issue I'm having is that I would like to delete

Is Gluster the wrong solution for us?
We are about to abandon GlusterFS as a solution for our object storage needs. I'm hoping to get some feedback to tell me whether we have missed something and are making the wrong decision. We're already a year into this project after evaluating a number of solutions. I'd like not to abandon GlusterFS if we just misunderstand how it works. Our use case is fairly straight forward.

GlusterFS mount does not list directory content until parent directory is listed
Hello, Have spotted strange behaviour of GlusterFS fuse mount. I am unable to list files in a directory until parent directory is listed. However if I do list file with full path it is listed on some client nodes. Example: localadmin at ldgpsua00000038:~$ ls -al /var/lib/nova/instances/_base/ ls: cannot access /var/lib/nova/instances/_base/: No such file or directory localadmin at

Write failure on distributed volume with free space available
Hello, Thanks to "partner" on IRC who told me about this (quite big) problem. Apparently in a distributed setup once a brick fills up you start getting write failures. Is there a way to work around this? I would have thought gluster would check for free space before writing to a brick. It's very easy to test, I created a distributed volume from 2 uneven bricks and started to

Debian repo and i386 builds
Hello! Why Debian repo is so strange? Path to a repo should not contain version and subversion numbers. Now you can't receive and even check updates automatically. It's very-very simple to create correct repo. You can even add to it all versions of packages, if it is important. And where is i386 builds? Could anybody create a correct Debian repo for gluster from existing one?

Very slow directory listing and high CPU usage on replicated volume
Hi all, I am having problems with painfully slow directory listings on a freshly created replicated volume. The configuration is as follows: 2 nodes with 3 replicated drives each. The total volume capacity is 5.6T. We would like to expand the storage capacity much more, but first we need to figure this problem out. Soon after loading up about 100 MB of small files (about 300kb each), the

40MB repaired on a disk during scrub but no errors
Hey folks, While scrubbing, zpool status shows nearly 40MB "repaired" but 0 in each of the read/write/checksum columns for each disk. One disk has "(repairing)" to the right but once the scrub completes there''s no mention that anything ever needed fixing. Any idea what would need to be repaired on that disk? Are there any other types of errors besides

helpful blog on Acceptance Testing/Unit Testing
Hey all, While I object to the name "testing", Uncle Bob''s recent blog on Acceptance Testing/Unit Testing might prove interesting for those of you grappling with the meaning of Story Runner (which fits in the Acceptance Testing space) vs Spec Runner (which fits in the Unit Testing space). http://blog.objectmentor.com/articles/2007/10/17/tdd-with-acceptance-tests-and-unit-tests
