4.3 to 4.4 and Yum and Upgrade vs. Update
I'm wondering about yum update vs. yum upgrade. The man page says use
upgrade (actually the obsoletes flag which is set in upgrade and not
update) when doing something like a linux 8.0 to linux 9 upgrade.
Something we can't do with CentOS, i.e. 3 to 4. So, is it better to use
update or upgrade when going from 4.3 to 4.4? Doesn't RedHat call these

Nice work Alain
Hey Alain,
Nice work on the updated admonitions here:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Wiki/Editing
IMHO they look great, and a nice improvement on the previous set.
Thanks for the hard work making our wiki pages look great!

the tag Obsoletes: in spec files
How exactly to use the tag "Obsoletes:" in a spec file ?
I need to offer texlive to users on Centos-5.6, so I packaged it (based
on a Mandriva src.rpm), and that works.
But I want rpm to *replace* tetex by texlive, instead of just adding
texlive, when users do a :
$ yum install texlive
(we have a local repo here).
So I added this line in texlive.spec :
Obsoletes: tetex

What would you tell the CIO in an "ABCs of Email" overview?
One of the key points that came up when I researched and wrote the
"Five Things CIOs Should Know about Fighting Spam" article (http://
www.cio.com/article/28830) was that they should know the basics of
how email works. Otherwise, said plenty of techies, the CIO won't
have the first idea of what the email admin is complaining about.
So I'm going to do my part. I'm

[LLVMdev] Ninja (make replacement)
Thank you so much for your hard work!
LLVM/Clang is in need of motivated Windows developers willing to put in the
time to make the LLVM/Clang experience better on Windows :)
Quick note on the reST:

Admonitions! with Python-Markdown 2.3 release.
Last night I released version 2.3 of Python Markdown (see the release
notes [1] for all the details). In addition to various other
improvements, a new **experimental** extension was included that added
a syntax for generating rST-style admonitions [2]. For a summary of
the syntax, see the documentation [3]. A broader sample of the output
can be seen on this page [4]. The source text can be found

[LLVMdev] Documentation Issues Welcome?
Having recently become interested in llvm I've read a lot of
documentation on your website. Considering that a 2.5
release is due out soon, I'm guessing there will be
additional readers and writers focusing on the docs.
Would feedback in this area be welcome?

Contingency table: logistic regression
Hi,
I am analyzing a data set with greater than 1000 independent cases
(collected in an unrestricted manner), where each case has 3 variables
associated with it: one, a factor variable with 0/1 levels (called XX),
another factor variable with 8 levels (X) and a third response variable
with two levels (Y: 0/1). I am trying to see if X1 has an effect on the
relationship between X2 and the

Simply IMQ
I''ve followed this list for quite a long time and have even posted a couple
of times. I used the early versions of IMQ from Devik (I think that was his
name), and it worked well. I only ever got the chance to implement it in my
test environment. I now need to implement it in my production environment.
My Linux core router has nine interfaces and has a 27 megabit connection to

Hello Monty:
I'm OK with not continuing this on the Speex tech list. In fact, I've
deliberately responded off list to the various posters. I do think,
though, that your admonitions to be non political should go to both
sides ... that Jean-Marc founded Speex doesn't give him license to
denigrate other efforts. Thomas Leigh asked a perfectly legitimate
question and Jean-Marc's

How about if I sell you a copy of speex. Buy low, sell high seems like
a good capitalist plan, and then you could feel good about using Speex!

Windows 2k Home directories junk
Has anyone had the home directories of some Windows 2000 users become
inundated with thousands (15k or so) of directories all of a sudden? This is
of course a samba share on the samba PDC. It really renders the H:\ pretty
useless. It also seems to occur only if you are logged onto a certain
machine. Is anyone aware of any causes? Certain software packages that maybe
create odd directories in a
