Writing a Quick Start Guide to Xapian
Google are holding a GSoC "Doc Camp" this year the week before the annual mentor summit - the dates for Doc Camp are 17-21 October, and the location is Google HQ in Mountain View, California, USA. A major part of this will be several Book Sprints for writing Quick Start guides for specific organisations taking part in GSoC. They're currently inviting proposals, and I'd like to

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Awesome, I'm psyched for 1.0.3.... the ID3v1 winamp2 support will be a neat addition, as is the faster decodes. Will 24-bit audio play nice with the final public version of 1.0.3? Shorewall DNAT to IPSET
I would like to dnat certain protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH) to the contents of an ipset (lan:+serviceshost or similar) where the ipset is ensured to contain only one host, but can be changed dynamically when services are in maintenance mode and go to the "services are down" message on another server. Will this work, or am I barking up a fish here?

Dual ISP config: How to forward DNS requests to the proper server?
I''m using Shorewall with a load-balanced muti-ISP config along with LSM for failover. It''s working great, except for DNS requests. I''d appreciate some advice on how to best configure this. The WAN connections are a T1 through XO and a cable connection through Comcast. About 80% of the traffic is routed out the Comcast connection under normal connections. I would

shorewall will be in the next openSUSE release
Hi, Just to pass the news [1],shorewall firewall package will be part of the next openSUSE release, meaning users would not need to set up an extra repository (of course they can always choose to follow the development repo). Thanks to all answering my questions Togan [1]<http://lizards.opensuse.org/2011/08/05/factory-progress-2011-08-05/>

24-bit audio?
Using the FLAC frontend with flac v1.0.2, I tried to encode a recently recorded 24-bit mono wav to flac, but received the following error: options: -P 0 -b 4608 -m -l 12 -e -q 0 -r 0,6 -R 0 gpt2002-06-01mono.wav: ERROR: unsupported bits per sample 24 So, I tried to encode a stereo 24-bit wave file... same error. flac-1.0.3_beta released
I have just released a source distribution which is the candidate for the 1.0.3 release. At this time I would ask anyone who is willing to help test it to do the following: 1. download the tarball and unzip it: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.0.3_beta-src.tar.gz?download 2. do ./configure && make && make check This will build all code and run all the tests.

'system error 5 has occured' when mapping printer
Hi all, I have had this issue for a really long time that I had a workaround for, but this workaround has caused more harm than good. The issue is when mapping 'LPT1' I know this is a local LPT port, etc and I know that non-administrators cannot map this port. The port is needed by a legacy application, and it cannot be changed until this application goes the way of all things. So,

Creating an LLVM Project
Hi there, I have a question regarding this documentation page: http://llvm.org/docs/Projects.html IIRC LLVM has moved away from Makefile's and uses CMake only. The question is: Is the page outdated or is it a recommended way for creating LLVM based project? P.S. I’m trying to create a project using CMake, though I’m seeing some issues (didn’t manage to include headers so far). --

flac-1.0.3_beta released
Which plugins do you mean? I thought I remember Winamp, for instance, being able to do word-length reduction on the fly. The only place I can find this feature is in the Monkey's Audio codec plugin, though. Anyway, great news Josh! Thanks for making 24-bit audio support in FLAC a priority. :) MW On Tue, 11 Jun 2002, Josh Coalson wrote: > --- Mike Wren <mikew@etree.org>

Samba help
Folks I have a Centos7 system (SOFA) and want to install a Samba share named "STUFF" for the machines inside my home. All users in my home have read access to the share, but only one user "me" has write permission. The configuration below worked just fine when the Samba system was on Centos 6, but did not work under Centos 7. The client machine is Windows 10. I have

Is There an Alternative to MEMDISK ?
This isn't an esp urgent issue, but I'd like to use a certain RAM diagnostic (Doc Mem) which I've already posted a note about a couple of months ago. Simply won't work booting the floppy disk image via MEMDISK. In the interim, I've tried to resolve this by changing things on my side. I'm pretty sure it's a XMS incompatibility, as it fails differently depending on
