http://xapian.org/download RHEL instructions
Hello :-)
The instructions regards Tim Brody's packages are incomplete in that
rpm-eprints-org-key is needed by rpm-eprints-org-xapian-5-1.noarch. The RPM
for rpm-eprints-org-key is at

perl bindings
Hi All,
When are the XS-based Perl bindings going to be deprecated in favour of
the SWIG bindings?
Please remove the dead RHEL RPMs from:
http://xapian.org/download
I've built RPMs for RHEL5/CentOS5 (with a different signing key) here:
http://rpm.eprints.org/xapian/5/
RHEL4 is eol and shouldn't be used.
For my own convenience I have written an RPM for the repository:

Yes, you are right; it is the query template. The reason I said opensearch
template is that I haven't quite read all sections of the Omega docs and I'm
still in the process. Thanks for pointing that out.
I'm aiming to cover

Will the current RPM packages work on a RHEL7 system? I am upgrading from a RHEL5 system that uses the omega search tool.

building on RHEL 5/CentOS 5
RHEL5 has autoconf 2.59 and automake 1.9.6.
I've managed to build the whole Xapian family by reducing the
requirement to 2.59/1.9.6 in configure.ac.
Omega requires docdir which can be added by hand in docs/Makefile.am:
docdir = ${datadir}/doc/${PACKAGE}
if !MAINTAINER_NO_DOCS
dist_doc_DATA = $(RSTHTML)
endif
All I've done is get these packages compiled - I haven't tested in any

Thanks, the Centos 6 repos don't have that rpm and the
http://xapian.org/download page seems to only cover the XS bindings, if
I am reading this correctly:
But I was able to remove the rpm packages and compile and install the
core and swig from source.

related documents
Hi All,
I would like to take a doc in the xapian DB and find all related
documents by relevance e.g. so when you view one document it says
"Related entries X Y Z".
I'm aware of the "Morelikethis" Lucene plugin that is supposed to do
something like this, by generating a query from a document based on term
frequency.
Has anyone developed a tool to generate a query from a

Hi,
Could you please clarify a query regarding full text search in Xapain?
I have installed LXRng (cross-referencer), which internally uses Xapain for
text search. I am using CentOS 6 & have installed the following Xapian

Report for http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/SupportedPlatforms
Hello :-)
There was probably no good reason to do this build but the Debian 6.0
Squeeze repo version was 1.2.3, we needed 1.2.4 and I didn't think of using
the package from unstable.
Arch: x86_64
Platform: Linux 2.6 Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8)
Version: 1.2.4

XAPIAN_CJK_NGRAM can work
Olly,
That's very kind of you to help me. When I used "env XAPIAN_CJK_NGRAM=1 indexer-command" indexer Eprints again, it can search Chinese by character level. But it is not so good for words or phrase level. ICU would be better than CJK. Hope ICU can use soon!
Best wishes,
Peter

RHEL7 packages
Hi there,
I'm following the instructions on http://xapian.org/download for RPM
packages for RedHat Enterprise Linux. I have RHEL7 but I see there's no
specific support for that. I was wondering if there was some specific
reason for that or if it was just something pending.
At the moment, if I follow the instructions for RHEL5 & 6, I get
(understandably) the following, which in
