Lucid LTS: different Wine versions for 32 or 64 bits ?
Hello, I 've been using Wine 1.2 wjth Ubuntu 10.04-LTS an a 64bit Asus laptop for almost one year. In the beginning, everything worked OK (graphic refresh, focus, etc...). Now Wine works bad, I suppose some updates in Lucid do not suit Wine 1.2 (?). I tried XP mode, W98 mode (my applications are oldies ;-), but the behaviour seems bad in any case. On this laptop, synaptic shows Wine 1.2

How to revert to wine 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 using Synaptic?
I am using: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-wine/ppa/ubuntu as an additional repository in Synaptic so I can use the latest (released) version of wine, 1.5. Today, with the wine 1.5.5 update, I can no longer run World of Warcraft, so I'd like to revert to the 1.5.4 version until the latest released version works. Unfortunately, I can't force Synaptic to use 1.5.4 (perhaps because the

Wine can't initialize OpenGL
My wine used to work fine - I'm using Lucid and wanted wine 3.16 because of a bug fix, and I figured the maverick debian would probably be fine, and I installed it, and OpenGL suddenly didn't work. So I used "completely remove" in Synaptic to uninstall the maverick version of wine and went back to the lucid 3.15 version, and it still didn't work. I replaced everything in my

adding winehq debian repository to apt-get | synaptic
I added the winehq debian repository to apt-get | synaptic (I am running mepis 3.3) and would like to install those rather than the debian official unstable builds but since the winehq repository is also marked as part of 'unstable' distro I can't find a way to distinguish the wine / winelib provided by winehq from the official ones (which would need the many winelib-* packages)

Updating through Synaptic Package Manager
Hi all, just a quick question here - I would like to get upgraded to 1.2 via the Synaptic Package Manager, but thus far it is still saying that the most recent version is the older version. I've never updated anything in a Linux distro before, and it seems like this would be the easiest way to go about doing it. (Instructions for upgrading my distro isn't on the page, and I've never

Problem with d/loading Wine using Synaptic
Hi all - I'm a first-timer here, and have been trying to install Wine from the new "Wine for Debian users" site (I'm using Mepis Linux which is Debian-based). I'm wanting to install the latest version (20050111-1), and have used the "force version" option in Synaptic to do this. I've tried this several times, but each time I get a "connection

What is the significance of 22 in the Debian libxapian22 packages
What is the significance of 22 in the Debian libxapian22 and libxapian22-dbg packages? According to http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libxapian22 they are built from upstream versions 1.2.3 to 1.2.12 (of xapian-core?) The reason for asking is that we need xapian-omega (and hence xapian-core) at 1.2.8 or later. Previously we have built and installed directly from source but a package

A Problem : Can NOT install APT or Synaptic for v4.0
Hello, There was no problem installing "APT" package in CentOS 4.0 Beta, but so far I could not install APT or Synaptic by "# yum install apt" or by "# yum install synaptic" in a usual manner. Is there any solution for this? It seems to me, something is wrong only for these two packages. Regards.

Backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid
Today (May 4, 2013) I will begin the process of backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid. This will include all the recommended packages and the packages for R found in the universe repository for Ubuntu. Things to keep in mind: - If you do not want to receive these upgrades and you use the CRAN repositories or my Launchpad PPA, please remove them from your apt/synaptic sources lists.

Updating to a Development Version breaks 'wine-dev'
Hi, I am relatively new to Linux but know what I'm doing. I have installed Ubuntu and WinE (through synaptic package manager so it took the latest stable version, 1.0.1) Warcraft III worked perfectly in this version. But GGClient (also known as Garena, a program used to play low-latency games with others on the internet through a VPN) does not work in this version of WinE. So I looked it up,

R hangs on the stats.so library
Dear all, I having this problem on my laptop. It was caused by my clumsy attempts to upgrade the system. As I wrote here, (http://www.mail-archive.com/r-sig-debian at r-project.org/msg01364.html) I was trying to solve the same problem with JAGS/rjags on my laptop. Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
This is a post I just added to my Ubuntu R Blog (http://www.personal.psu.edu/mar36/blogs/the_ubuntu_r_blog/2013/03/moving-to-r-300-on-ubuntu.html). As you may (or may not) be aware of, R 3.0.0 is [scheduled to be released](http://www.r-project.org/) on April 3rd. Since this is a major release and there may be some growing pains (but I hope not) in the move 3.0.0, here is some information

Updating to 0.9.59 (source) from 0.9.58 (synaptic)
I installed Wine from Synapitc Packet Manager on Ubuntu 7.10. Currently it's version 0.9.58, but I can't wait for binaries and want to compile and install version 0.9.59 from source. Will it break my current installation? Will my programs (Steam, Audiosur, Peggle Extreme) need to be removed and reinstalled? Also, it seems that Ubuntu repository servers are down now, because I can't
