Text snippets
Hello, Is there advancements in snippeting? (Besides what mentioned in the wiki.) I think extracting snippets is clearly IR task. And I hope Xapian will provide at least helpers to do that. I have set of documents up to 5M of extracted text and 1M in average (they are even bigger pdfs but I pre-extracted text into some sort of text cache, pdftotext is very slow). To parse ~1M documents on the fly

Bug and patch for +terms with wildcards
In current Xapian SVN HEAD, there is a bug in the query parser concerned with the handling of wildcard terms with a "+" prefix. Specifically, a query such as "+foo* bar" will be parsed by the query parser into Xapian::Query("bar") if there are no terms in the database which start "foo". Instead, since the "+" term cannot be matched, I believe

How to ensure thread-safety
Hi, I have read the concurrency webpage from the Xapian documentation: http://getting-started-with-xapian.readthedocs.io/en/latest/concepts/concurrency.html But it is still not clear to me how to ensure thread-safety when using libxapian (C++ API). Usually when doing multi-threading many threads can read the same variable concurrently without locking provided none of the threads modifies the

Latest revision and backwards compatibility
Greetings, I've been wondering about the index format and backwards compatibility. We're using the dev version (for chert) and each svn up means that any indexes created prior to this revision cannot be read. Is this purely a cautious move to prevent errors, and, barring any obvious index format changes, can I safely force the current revision to read existing indexes? eg, by

Xapian 1.0.1 released
I've now uploaded Xapian 1.0.1, which you can download from the usual place: http://www.xapian.org/download.php This release mainly comprises bug fixes and performance improvements. The "simple" examples (for both C++ and the bindings) have also been overhauled and now use the QueryParser and TermGenerator classes, which makes for simpler examples and should better reflect

Chert backend
As Chert backend is not the default Xapian backend for the 1.2 branch, I am thinking about switching from Flint to Chert. However, I am wondering how do both compare in performance and index size? My indexes are updated quite frequently, so this is my priority. Which is better in this case? Regards, PK

chert vs flint vs lucene
Hi, What's the main difference between chert and flint? What above vs lucene? I am mainly asking about data structure (lexicon, posting list, document data), what's in memory, what's on disk, hash vs b-tree and reasons behind them. Any pointer is appreciated. Thanks! Hi, I am trying to run solaris 10 (9/10) on Xen 3.4 (centos5.5 as dom0) in HVM mode. I can see the realtek 8139 network adapters when I do pciscan but ''ifconfig -a'' just lists loopback device.
