Xapian pubmeet
Hi all,
A few of us have been discussing whether we should have a Xapian social
gathering of some kind. The current idea is meeting up in a pub in
London some time in autumn for drinks and food. However all of this
really depends on who might be able to come! It would be a chance to
meet other Xapian enthusiasts in an informal social setting and talk
about all things search-related (and

Bug and patch for +terms with wildcards
In current Xapian SVN HEAD, there is a bug in the query parser concerned
with the handling of wildcard terms with a "+" prefix. Specifically,
a query such as "+foo* bar" will be parsed by the query parser into
Xapian::Query("bar") if there are no terms in the database which start
"foo". Instead, since the "+" term cannot be matched, I believe

Debian stuff
I've now got working (but not necessarily policy compliant) debian
packages for xapian-core, the xapian python bindings, and omega and
omindex. I will be sorting out a public apt repository of these shortly.
Is it appropriate to add the debian control files (ie, those files in
the debian directories in CVS) to the distribution tarballs? I think
yes - they don't take up much space,

I?m newbie with Xapian !
I?m looking for the best way to index json data to be able to search by name/value pair and Full Text Search using only Xapian.
I did haven?t success to found a complete or a good documentation about json index and search.
Do you know some documentation about ?
Another problem that I have is that: In the same name/value pair sometimes I have different data types

licensing requirements for using the SWIG bindings
Hi,
I'm confused about my licensing obligation with respect to the Xapian
SWIG bindings.
I've got a python wrapper that sits above the standard Xapian
Python/SWIG bindings, and I wasn't sure if the *intent* of the Xapian
team is that my python wrapper - and any code that also uses my
wrapper also falls under GPLv2.
It seems unclear if the FSF's position on dynamic linking in

machine account locations
OK I'm confused.
Can machines be in ou=Computers,dc=somewhere,dc=net ?
Every thing works fine if I configure so that machine accounts are created under
ou=Users. If configured for machines to be in ou=Computers, I can't add a new
machine. Error returned is "The user name could not be found." This is from the w2k
machine itself.
The release notes for 3.0.11 seem to say adding

Help with multiple subnets
I have two subnets in may LAN 192.168.0.0/24 and
192.168.1.0/24. Both subnets go out to the Internet
through a Linux box acting as a gateway, so the
gateway has one interface in each subnet (192.168.1.1
and 192.168.0.1). In both subnets I have Windows and
Linux machines and I want to configure SMB networking
using a workgroup (not a domain), so one workgroup for
more than one subnet.
I know that

I Know It's A Stupid Question......
........But I'm trying to give my son a "cool-yet-kind-of-geeky" 13th
Birthday Present......he hinted he liked the CentOS logo, but where
would I find things that are branded with it?....searching the web
doesn't really help me much, only because I'm not sure what I need to be
looking for...any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Closing a DB
Hi,
As part of my whole indexing thing, I want to move the databases
around, from within the code. So, I figured that the safest bet
would be to close the DB before attempting to move it.
But there's no Xapian::Database::close() or even
Xapian::WritableDatabase::close().
I have a global variable that holds the database, and I open it
in the main():
// globals

Question about AGI vs. FastAGI vs. straight C/DB development
Folks,
I want to build a custom IVR for my setup. I've got it
working (well, the bells and whistles are not there
yet, but the basic stuff works) using AGI, but I'm
worried about how well this will scale.
I've seen references to FastAGI, and presumably this
will be more efficient.
Question, though: how well do either of these (AGI or
FastAGI) scale if my system is handling a large

[win32-file] Suggested API change
Hi all,
As things stand now, to get the ACL for a file, it''s a
two step process:
File.get_permissions("some_file").each{ |acct,perm|
p acct
p File.securities(perm)
}
I was thinking of merging these two calls into one so
that it would return a hash, with the account as the
key, and the value would be an array of access rights.
Or possibly an array of ACLStruct''s

I think it would be a good idea if we have a
wiki-based, ruby developers almanac (similar to

the best way to learn imo :).

New user - problem getting dtmf tones through VOIP providers?
Just setting up Asterisk. I'd like to be able to dial
out through VOIP providers and have customers type in
a code in response to a prompt.
So far, I've been able to set things up to make the
call and play the prompt. However, my problem now is
the DTMF tones; they don't register when I call
get_data. When I make a call in person (from the DIAX
softphone, through a VOIP provider,
