identd on "clients"
Hi, I use shorewall on my router (internal ip: 192.168.1.4). The router is used as a gateway for my lan. If I try to access an IRC server from any "client" (for exaples 192.168.1.1) I get the message "no identd". I tried the following in my shorewall rules config (etc/shorewall/rules), but i doesn''t work: ACCEPT net loc tcp 113

tcp wrappers Question..
hey folks, I keep seeing this on the internet "The user name lookup feature of TCP Wrappers uses identd to identify the username of the remote host. By default, this feature is disabled, as identd may appear hung when there are a large number of TCP connections." but I cant seem to find out how/where to enable said feature. Jason

freenode #asterisk IRC channel identd problem
Sorry to ask this question here since it's related to IRC and not Asterisk, but I am having trouble logging into the #asterisk IRC channel on freenode and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and solved it. So here's the situation: Whenever I try to login to the #asterisk channel I get a message like "you must be identified to login to this channel." So after doing

Bug#271286: minor fix for ignore.d.server/oidentd
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.27 Severity: wishlist hello, in ignore.d.server/oidentd you have: ^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ oidentd\[[0-9]+\]: Connection from \ [._[:alnum:]-]+ \([0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\):[0-9]{1,5}$ anyway, some oidentd logs don't have a hostname: oidentd[34562]: Connection from 241.145.24.135:2353 therefore you have to add: ^\w{3} [

Identd in jail.
Hi Few days ago I've problem with running identd in jail on 4.10-stable I've found that getcred() sysctl isn't permitted from within jail on 4.x. R.Watson suggest some "cheap hack" for this but I've solved this without patching the kernel. My patched ident gets result of getcred() sysctl from jauthd daemon via unix socket. Jauthd is simply getcred proxy, it gets two

identd w/ openssh
I've just realised that when a user uses ssh to connect to a machine, then sets up a port forward and uses it, the resulting connection is reported by identd as belonging to root. While I realise ident is not any kind of secure authentication, it doesn't make much sense to make it even less so by letting any user create connections reported to be made by root. The sshd should drop all

IRC channel #asterisk on irc.freenode.net
Hi all! It's great to start with "for dummies" question, but hey, we all have been human infants also =) Problem is, that I can not log on to this channel and I haven't found anything helpful during the past few days either. 1. The irc.freenode.net server gives me "Couldn't look up your hostname" and "No identd (auth) response" followed with

Anyone using fuse and/or sshfs under Centos 4.4?
Hi A search of google failed to show any prebuilt rpms for sshfs and fuse. I do see that fuse support is in 2.6.14 kernel which isn't a whole lot of help. Before I dive headlong into this has anyone successfully built fuse/sshfs against Centos 4.4. If so would you share your experience? Thanks Daveh

Purging old mails
Hi all, Firstly if this is a FAQ and I've missed it - let me apologise in advance. I use dovecot as a backup mail store and would now like to purge all mails over a certain age. Is it as simple as using find and rm'ing the results or is there more to it? I'm using maildir if that make a difference? Thanks in advance. Daveh

Problem rebuilding glibc for xen
I would like to rebuild glibc specifically with the -mno-tls-direct-seg-refs to allow better performance with Xen. I'm using Centos 4.2 x86_64 on an Athlon 3200+. I'm using the 2.6.9-11.106.unsupported kernel for reiser support. My thought was to download and install the SRPM and then rpmbuild with no changes to make sure it works before adding the above flag. Unfortunately, the

Services not required?
I''m in the process of locking down as much of my systems here as possible as to available ports. I am down to only a handful but am not sure how much of a security risk they pose and was wondering if anyone here might be able to comment, or suggest secure versions to run: 21/FTP (WU-ftpd v2.4.2 BETA 14) 22/SSH (1.22) 23/TELNET (Netkit 0.09) 25/SMTP (Sendmail

CentOs4.3
How can I efficiently search for programs and packages that are available as part of the CentOs4.3 distribution? I am using CentOs4.3 and need to install packages that are apparently not part of this distribution. What RedHat version do I have to consider if I want to use rpm's for RedHat instead? Dirk
