Remote databases and daemons
I've looked over the docs on remote backends, the protocol, and a bit
of the c++ for doing distributed and remote searches. I've got a
couple of questions:
* The remote protocol is usable only as a Database, not as a
WriteableDatabase -- is this correct? So, if I don't want my
application to have a copy of the database on the same machine I'll
need to write an indexer daemon on

Asterisk Newbie
Hello all
I have been learning * from almost 1 month now. It looks really powerfull. I
have some problem trying to find previous post, or solutions to common
problems, advice to newbies etc in this mailing list. There is no a
forum-like tool to search thru the posts by keyworks for example. Please
correct me if I am wrong.
That is why I will post my questions here:

BUG: 'bibentry' methods change default bibstyle
Hi,
Some 'bibentry' methods have the side effect of changing the default bibstyle.
Background:
tools::bibstyle() defines and registers bibtex styles for formatting 'bibentry' objects.
It optionally (and by default) sets a default style. It is also used to get a particular style.
The last feature of bibstyle() is used in 'bibentry' methods defined in packages

searching and sorting by date
I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here, but we recently started
evaluating xapian and Xapwrap (python wrapper around it) for our project
and I've been quickly trying to soak up a lot of the docs and concepts,
so I hope I can explain my question clearly.
We have a use case where we must return the first 50 most recent
documents that match our query. We don't want the first 50

Validation errors and file uploads
I''ve got a form that contains a number of textfields, as well as a
file upload element.
I''ve noticed that this field doesn''t retain it''s data after validation
errors. While I know html/http doesn''t allow form fields to be pre-
populated per se, it can be faked by stuffing it into the session.
Yuck.
Is there any accepted pattern/best practice for

datastructure for multi-choice factors
I am working on a system to visualize survey responses. Survey responses
typically include factors, numeric, timestamps, textfields and therefore fit
perfectly nice in dataframes, making it easy to visualize using standard R
functions.
However I am currently working on a survey that also include questions in
which the respondent can check more than one answer on a single multichoice
item. I.e.

Problem to remove loops in a routine
Dear R-users,
I have written the following code to generate some trellis plots. It
works perfectly fine except that it is quite slow when it is apply to my
typical datasets (over several thousands of lines). I believe the
problem comes from the loops I am using to subset my data.frame. I read
in the archives that the tapply function is often more efficient than a
loop in R. Unfortunately ,

Wikis for R
Frank uses the term "hierarchical keyword
organization" which I agree is a good way to organize
a system designed to help users. In fact, this is one
reason why I like the R graphics gallery which allows
one to quickly find a particular type of plot based on
keyword, examine the plot to see if it's close to
what's desired, and then get the detailed code to
examine or modify for

newbie question about .titlecase of .titleize
i just started to work with ROR, and made a form with scaffolding.
I achieved to add some extra inputvalidation but i also want to add some
code that changes some specific textfields with the .titlecase /
.titleize and then stores it to the database.
I had to add the validation code to the model file, is this also the
place to add the titlecase ?

Few questions
I apologize if these questions are not relevant to Scriptaculous. I
just want to get a general idea if I can acomplish some or all of
these things with the framework, and then what (if any) I''ll need to
do outside just using javascript.
For now, I have 2 column layout. On the right I want a form palette
where form elements can be dragged to the left column. I have a form

Is there a way to parse text data in R?
In excel, I would have used the "left" and "right" function to cut out just

relationships are as follows:
users:

has_many :privileges
