xen kernel panics at boot
Hi. I am trying to install xen 2.0.5 and am having problems getting the
xen kernel to boot. It seems to come up, recognize the PCI bus info,
the CPU, memory, and such, and then halts when it gets to trying to
mount NFS. It then asks for a boot floppy.
My guess is that it is not finding the / partition. The actual kernel
panic string, I don''t have because the screen blanks so

dom0 bootup -- Device eth0 has differet mac address than expected
CentOS 4.1, Xen 2.0.7. My dom0 is booting up but can''t get to the outside network because eth0 won''t start due to, apparently, Xen providing a different mac address than expected. How do I tell Xen to start eth0 at the bootup with a specific mac address that lines up with the HWADDR= line in my ifcfg-eth0? Note that a normal bootup into CentOS 4.1 outside of the Grub Xen bootup

My kernel panics when I add the kickstart line with append - could I get some advice?
I am trying to add a kickstart file to my automatic installation and
make it more automatic. However, when I comment out the append ks=...
line in the example below, the computer boots properly. If I uncomment
that line, then I get a kernel panic:
VFS: Cannot open root device "" or 09:02
Please append a correct "root=" boot option

CentOS 5.7 gives me a blank screen after bootup
Hi all,
I have an odd problem, for which I couldn't find any suggestions on google.
A CentOS 5.7x64 gives me a blank screen on bootup, both to the 17" LCD
monitor connected to the VGA port, and to the KVMOVIP device
built-into the server,
I can see the GRUB boot loader, and everything booting up, upto the
point where it says "Waiting for driver initialization.", then it goes

Kernel Panic at Boot
Hi All,
This is a Centos 6.4 system used as a home server and Myth backend
machine. It has just suffered a motherboard failure and I have got a
identical replacement.
This machine normally runs in run level 3. It has a NVidia graphics card
and the NVidia driver installed but I found it crashed the machine as
soon as I started X on there. So I never bothered with X and left it in RL3.
So as

Xen-unstable kernel panics on boot
I have compiled xen-unstable from source and I am unable to boot the
kernel that this creates. It appears to not be able to find my
logical volumes to mount the root volume. Shortly after this, the
kernel panics and the machine reboots.
Is there any option I can use when building the kernel to stop this
reboot after the panic so that I can find out what is causing it?
I know about

how does the bootup screen move the cursor around?
While rebooting my computer after installing the new kernel a few
minutes ago, I got to wondering about how the initial bootup screen
(after grub, before rhgb) is constructed.
The "Loading kernel blah blah blah" lines start at the top of the screen
and proceed to scroll down as one would expect.
But "kernel alive" shows up at the bottom of the screen and then more

Kernel Panic, root filesystem causing?
I''m getting an odd kernel panic which I cannot get the whole error for, I
believe it has something to do with a designation for the root filesystem.
About the time it would be mounting the root filesystem, there is a kernel
panic and it reboots less than 1 second later. I have lokoed around for
dmesg logs and tried using the magic PAUSE, but with no luck.
Recommendations? I

xfs and centosplus kernel
I read that XFS has problems with 4K Stack size for Linux on 32-bit
systems. How did we address this in the centosplus kernel? Since what
release of CentOS was this problem resolved?
Is there a quick way to know what size the Linux stack is configured to be
in a system's that's running?
Thanks for your help.

HVM DomU with Kernel 2.6.27-19 on CentOS 5 hangs with 100% CPU at Linux bootup on Xen 3.2.1
Dear Xen Community,
today we tried to upgrade our base server from a Xeon E5430 to a Xeon
X5570 (Nehalem). This worked fine so far, but our DomUs with Kernel
2.6.27 no longer boot - they start up until the following message appears:

CentOS 4.2 x86_64
I have a couple of 64-Bit Xeon's with CentOS 4.2 x86_64 installed on
them. They don't all have the same motherboards.
I've having a difficult time getting CentOS 4.2 x86_64 to boot on some
of them in SMP mode (UP works fine). After the installation of CD, it
boots up but kernel panics with the following error:

Odd kernel panic, repeatable
I had an old server die; we had another, same model, sitting around lightly
used, so I did what I've done before: swap the RAID card into that, swap the
drives, even putting them in the same bays as the dead one, and boot.
Nope. 100% of the time, when it hits switching roots, it kernel panics.
Adding rdshell to the kernel line does nothing, I get no grub rdshell. Booting

Are you missing the initrd line in /boot/grub/menu.lst? That's a known bug that I believe has been fixed with 3.18.25-something.

Accessing console for Xen 4.0 with 2.6.31 pvops kernel on Dell Poweredge R610
I am currently using a Dell PowerEdge server R610 with Xen 4.0 installed and
the 2.6.31.13 pvops kernel.
I am accessing the server console using the iDRAC KVM feature of the dell
management console.
Does anyone know how to configure the console option in the grub menu so
that all the boot messages can be seen on the
mgmt console?
Currently I can view only the Xen bootup messages if I dont specify

Changing rpool device paths/drivers
Hello all,
It was often asked and discussed on the list about "how to
change rpool HDDs from AHCI to IDE mode" and back, with the
modern routine involving reconfiguration of the BIOS, bootup
from separate live media, simple import and export of the
rpool, and bootup from the rpool. The documented way is to
reinstall the OS upon HW changes. Both are inconvenient to
say the least.

Virtual Machine converted from physical : Kernel Panic at boot .
Hi.
I used VMware Standalone converter 5.5 to convert a CentOS 5.3 machine from
a Physical server to a Virtaul Machine on ESXi 5.1 . Thus far with every
attempt to convert this machine I get a "Kernel panic"
