MRTG question on CentOS
I'm trying to get MRTG up and running on CentOS, but the displayed http page says that I don't have permission to access /mrtg/ on the server. Here are my commands yum install mrtg vim /etc/httpd/conf.d/mrtg.conf /etc/init.d/httpd restart cfgmaker --global 'WorkDir: /var/www/mrtg' --global 'Options[_]: bits, growright' --output /etc/mrtg/mrtg.cfg public at 10.200.200.1

CentOS/SNMP update breaks MRTG?
I got itchy fingers over the weekend and decided to fix what wasn't broken and upgraded one of the older servers from Centos 5.2 to Centos 5.3. Following the recommended process of updating glibc and such before the rest, it appeared to work perfectly and rebooted without problem. However, MRTG 2.15.2 started complaining about unexpected values. I installed/updated both MRTG (2.16.2) and

Cox Proportional Hazards model with a time-varying covariate
Hello Everyone,   I'm learning how to perform various statistical analyses in R. I'm checking my understanding by replicating examples from my SAS books. Below is an attempt to replicate a Cox Proportional Hazards model with a time-varying covariate. I think I'm doing this correctly but am not completely sure. I would appreciate it if someone could double-check my results. In case

SNMP and OID/MIB/MRTG
Hi all. I am having an issue and quite frankly would rather not spend the entire next two days learning the entire snmp program. I am hoping someone out there has used MRTG and SNMP to make it work. I have both installed. Single server, polling itself. Question 1- does snmpd have to run as a daemon, or only run once so I can get OID and MIBs from it? Question 2- does anyone know the command

SNMP monitoring
It seems it's not possible to monitor kvm virtual image network interfaces via SNMP. MRTG's cfgmaker says ### The following interface is commented out because: ### * has no ifSpeed property and other monitors are consistently reporting that vm's interfaces are exceeding traffic thresholds (even on lo ...). Which is no surprise if the threshold is zero. I found a hint on some

subnet flooded with lots of ADD_EDGE request
Hello, We're suffering from sporadic network blockage(read: unable to ping other nodes) with 1.1-pre17. Before upgrading to the 1.1-pre release, the same network blockage also manifested itself in a pure 1.0.33 network. The log shows that there are a lot of "Got ADD_EDGE from nodeX (192.168.0.1 port 655) which does not match existing entry" and it turns out that the mismatches

Request info on managing MySQL
Good day/night/whatever fellow techies, I've come to a small problem managing mysql on CentOS 4.7 box[1]. When I have done things on mysql on my desktop systems it was always just for personal use so I would be lazy and put everything under the "test" db so I didn't have to deal with all that security. But I find that I need to put some db's on the "production"

Upgrade of dovecot broke imap (CentOS 4.5)
I just did a yum update and one of the packages updated was dovecot. I've been using this for imap/pop3 for quite a while. Now, however, I get an error when trying to login under any account. It gives "bad user or password" errors for every user. The user can ssh in just fine and run mutt or pine. But trying to get in with evolution, or even squirrelmail, just gives me an

Q's about switching from sendmail to postfix
Running CentOS 4.2 with all updates. I've been using sendmail for my MTA since forever. I've grown used to it and I can make it do what I want it to. However (there's always a catch, isn't there)... Lately it seems that some mail is being lost. I've noticed some instances when a message was sent to myself and others which I will only see if someone replies back to

CBQ and/or HTB help needed
Ok, this has been kicking my @$$ for weeks. I'm trying to get some kind of bandwidth shaping working on my server. I need to throttle ftp down so as not to suck up all the available bandwidth. I had cbq working on the old server (an ancient RH 6.2 box) so I figured I'd just move the config over and get cbq.init from sf.net and it should work. Unfortunately it doesn't. At least

Using special characters in query terms
Hi, I would like to search for filenames in a xapian database. For now my query for "foo-bar.po" turns into the following: Xapian::Query((foo:(pos=1) PHRASE 3 bar:(pos=2) PHRASE 3 po:(pos=3))) This query is successful, if I used the term generator to tokenize "foo-bar.po" during indexing. The problem is: this workaround makes it impossible to distinguish between

One-way audio with VPN
I've got a one-way audio problem, but I've looked through a few documents on the subject and I'm not sure that it's the same issue. User A calls a local Asterisk user B via a public SIP gateway (voiptalk.org) using (sip:110@siptest.dmclub.net) B is connected to the Asterisk server via VPN B is registered (and has successful bi-directional conversations with other users on the

Bandwidth limiting
Since shapecfg is no longer part of the distro what are people using in place of cbq to limit/throttle bandwidth? I have an ftp mirror that, if left unchecked, will suck up the entire bandwidth of the CoLo site. Does anyone use VMWare 4.5.2 on CentOS 4?
I'm trying to use my copy and whenever I reboot I have to reconfigure everything again using vmware-config.pl. Any idea why I might have to do this? Is there something about the way services are setup under CentOS 4 or something? Preston

MRTG drop/reject hits
I have created shell script for MRTG statistics of droped/rejected packets: ftp://slovakia.shorewall.net/mirror/shorewall/mrtg/ http://slovakia.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/mrtg/ rsync://slovakia.shorewall.net/shorewall/mrtg/ example: http://slovakia.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/mrtg/example/ It is not based on /var/log/messages (syslog), but iptables counter. A lot of packets are droped/rejected

/etc/passwd aand /etc/shadow out of sync on 4.6 box
Fellow list members, I recently tried to add a user to a little used server that hadn't see a change in users for quite a while. When I use system-config-users I get an error alert that says - The user database cannot be read. This problem is most likely caused by a mismatch in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. The program will exit now. I awk'ed out the user ID's and ran diff.
