omega crawler: ht://dig or wget?
At wiki page: http://wiki.xapian.org/Omega
I added a comment that ht://Dig looks like dead.
Does anybody really use it?
>From brief glance at docs I had a feeling it is not easy to configure.
Maybe better crawler is GNU wget? Mature, stable, maintained?

htdig with omega for multiple URLs (websites)
Olly,
many thanks for suggesting htdig, you saved me a lot of time.
Htdig looks better than my original idea - wget, you were right.
Using htdig, I can crawl and search single website - but I need to
integrate search of pages spread over 100+ sites. Learning, learning....
Htdig uses separate document database for every website (one database
per URL to initiate crawling). Htdig also can merge

For more UI functionality: OmegaScript, C++ or other?
Hello :-)
We have Xapian and Omega working nicely. Now we would like more
functionality at the browser UI, such as being able to specify date ranges
and being able to search the file name including looking only for, say, .odt
files.
Question is whether the best choice for this would be to develop a template
using OmegaScript or to switch to C++ or some other language.

Empty results OMEGA with XAPIAN 1.0.1
Hi,
I configured XAPIAN 1.0.1 and OMEGA 1.0.1. on my development machine
(first removed the old ones). I recreated my databases (both quartz
and flint) and tried to run original queries against the databases
created by the new versions.
I'm getting empty result sets from OMEGA. If I use the delve tool I
actually see that the records are created fine. No log files are
written as far as I

SELinux and search permissions
I am running xapian and omega on a Centos 6.4 SELinux enabled box.
When I do a search I get the following message:
Exception: Couldn't read format template `query' (Permission denied)
If I disable SELinux the search executes correctly.
I have enabled the httpd_enable_cgi boolean but that still does not allow the permissions needed.
What else do I need to configure in SELinux for xapian

Report for http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/SupportedPlatforms
Hello :-)
There was probably no good reason to do this build but the Debian 6.0
Squeeze repo version was 1.2.3, we needed 1.2.4 and I didn't think of using
the package from unstable.

Platform: Linux 2.6 Debian 6.0 (Squeeze)
Compiler: gcc version 4.4.5 (Debian 4.4.5-8)

Flint failed to deliver indexing performance to Quartz.
Flint failed to deliver indexing performance to Quartz.
I am proposing to remove Flint as default database and place Quartz
database back as default. The catch is not that Flint database is
smaller and faster during searches then Quartz database as developers
were concerning when were measuring and neglecting to measure
performance when creating the large indexes.
The truth is that Flint

omindex hangs while scanning
Hello,
I was looking for a search engine for a small internal documentation
site and found xapian and
omega. Downloaded and compiled it using msys and ming on a german
windows xp system. Finally
installed apache on the same box.
Following the omega example I copied the book to .../apache/htdocs and
startet the omindex
which hang up on the first document found. Even on very short doc with

PHP indexing, what's the PHP method for indexscript
Currently I have the following indexscript:
pid : unique=Q boolean=Q field=pid
postdate : field=startdate
author_name: unhtml boolean=XAUTHORNAME field=author
author_id: boolean=XAUTHORID field=authorid
url : field=url
sample : weight=1 index field=sample
How can I create the same indexing using PHP?
With this, I can get an searchable index, but I have no idea how to set the fields, so that I

Xapian 1.3.4 development snapshot released
I'm happy to be able to announce that Xapian 1.3.4 is now available.
Please note that 1.3.x releases are development releases - they are made
to encourage earlier and wider use and testing of new and changed code.
Our record with 1.1.x was very good - all the bugs I am aware of were
either in new features, or were also present in the corresponding 1.0.x
release. But if you main concern is

I've successfully installed Xapian under Ubuntu Linux using APT but when I
tried it on an older Debian machine I got a broken package error:

wildcard support (left truncation)
Dose Xapian support wildcards (left truncation)?
E.g. *ildcard.doc or *.doc or Wild*.doc
I read a post from Olly in 2005 that said it wasn't supported yet, I was
wonder if there had been any progress or easy work around since.
I mainly need when users want to search by the filename extension.
Thanks,
Frank

Omega
Are there any options to forming queries with Omega? For instance can
you specify a proximity search like "file near 5 manager"? If so, where
might I find this documented? I don't see it in the docs directory.
Thanks
Jim.

C++ parser for doc.get_data() result.
Xapians!
Did anybody wrote and would like to share a routines that parse result
from doc.get_data() into some key and pair values in C++ ?
Code:
Xapian::Document doc = i.get_document();
string data = doc.get_data();
mymap = parse_result(data);
As you know the data string contain all the data within the document
delimited by "=" sign and "\n" new line and needs to be parse

Xapian 1.0.1 released
I've now uploaded Xapian 1.0.1, which you can download from the usual
place:
http://www.xapian.org/download.php
This release mainly comprises bug fixes and performance improvements.
The "simple" examples (for both C++ and the bindings) have also been
overhauled and now use the QueryParser and TermGenerator classes, which
makes for simpler examples and should better reflect
