3D confidence ellipsoid with ellipse projections onto 2D plane
I have a 3xN matrix of parameters obtained from N regressions where the 3
parameters are jointly statistically significant. I would like to reproduce
a 3D confidence ellipsoid projecting 2D ellipses onto the XY plane as in

3-D ellipsoid equations
+
Hello,
The parametric equations of an ellipsoid can be written in terms of spherical coordinates. The three spherical coordinates are converted to Cartesian coordinates by
X=a cos (α) sin(θ)
Y=b sin(α) sin(θ)
Z=c cos(θ)
for α and θ
The parameter α varies from 0 to 2 π and θ varies from 0 to π . Here ( X o , Y o ,Z o ) is the center of the ellipsoid, and θ is the angle

Concentration ellipsoid
Hi all,
Can anyone please guide me how to draw a Concentration ellipsoid for a
bivariate system with a bivariate normal dist. having a VCV matrix :
Sigma <- matrix(c(1,2,2,5), 2, 2)
I would like to draw in using GGPLOT. Your help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,

How to plot a 3D ellipsoid in R?
Hey, all
I am going to plot several 3-dimensional ellipsoids
in R.
For example, A is such a ellipsoid with
mean u=[1 1 1]', covariance matrix C=[1 0 .5;0 1 .6;.5 .6 1];
So how can I plot such object in 3D space?
Is there some function to achieve this?
Thanks.

Minimum Volume Ellipsoid Estimator ("cov.mve"??)
Dear All,
The Minimum Volume Ellipsoid estimator ("cov.mve") was part of S+ but I cannot find it in R. Where can I find it? Why was it excluded?
Cheers, Patrik

random uniform sample of points on an ellipsoid (e.g. WGS84)
I am interested in making a random sample from a uniform distribution
of points over the surface of the earth, using the WGS84 ellipsoid as
a model for the earth. I know how to do this for a sphere, but would
like to do better. I can supply random numbers, want latitude
longitude pairs out.
Can anyone point me at a solution? Thanks very much.

which points within an ellipsoid? Sorting data in 3d
Hello,
in a three dimensional coordinate system, I'd like to find all my
experimental data points that fall within an ellipsoid around a fixed
coordinate. The fixed point is defined by (x.coord.point,
y.coord.point, z.coord.point). The coordinates of the ellipsoid are
given by the three vectors x,y,z.
In a previous version of my code, I simply used a box instead of an
ellipsoid to sort

confidence ellipsoid for model parameters
Dear all,
Has anyone written functions to compute (and ideally project / plot onto
a plane) confidence ellipsoids for q linear model parameters, q > 2 ?
Greetings and best wishes,
Renaud

Advice for calling a C function
Hi,
I'm having some trouble with a bit of combined C & R code. I'm trying to
write a C function to handle the for loops in a function I'm working on
to calculate a similarity matrix. Jari Oksanen has kindly added the
necessary changes to the vegan package so that I can use the vegdist
function, so this isn't absolutely necessary. However, I'm stubborn and

Workflow to commit changes using git alone (?)
Hi All,
Ok, just for the matter of providing feedback that may be useful for others, I figured out one way to do it based on the setup that I described earlier. It can be something like this
git checkout patchbranch # checkout to the patch branch, this is the one containing the differential patch code
git checkout -b tmp # checkout to a new tmp branch
git reset —soft master

problem with "which"
Hi,
I'm having trouble with the "which" or the "seq" function, I'm not sure.
Here's an example :

Merging labels on Pie chart
Dear R Help Members,
I need to draw a pie chart for someone and there are 3 small slices in it identifying different species, all 0.7%, who’s labels overlap so you cannot read them. Is there a way to have only 1 label the three slices, so as to merge the three labels into one without merging the 3 slices? Alternatively, is there a way to extend the pointing lines, so that they could be different

Possible `substr` bug in UTF-8 Corner Case
I think there is a memory bug in `substr` that is triggered by a UTF-8 corner case: an incomplete UTF-8 byte sequence at the end of a string.? With a valgrind level 2 instrumented build of R-devel I get:
> string <- "abc\xEE"??? # \xEE indicates the start of a 3 byte UTF-8 sequence
> Encoding(string) <- "UTF-8"

Help installing application
Hello! I hope I am sending this to the right spot. Forgive me if I am
not. I am trying to install an application using Wine version 0.9.40. My
installer runs but then it tells me that there is only 1 mb on C: to
install. The terminal reports the following:
fixme:font:SetMapperFlags (0xf970, .......... and more similar output and
then fix me: win: UnregisterDeviceNotification

Build R-1.9.0 with static libraries ?
Dear all,
Which options should I use when running the configure script
and/or
which changes should I make to Makeconf
to build the binary for R-1.9.0 but using only statically linked libraries ?
I need to build a binary that is portable between several different
Linux (RedHat) distributions.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Melanie

Gravity (spatial interaction) models in R
I was wondering if anyone has developed (or is developing) an
implementation for gravity models (spatial interaction) in R. I
conducted several searches on the CRAN website with no luck. Currently
I am estimating parameters via linearization.
Thank you in advance
