Plot range resizing when adding additiona lines
Hi -- I have searched the documentation and archives on graphing capabilities in R for the past couple of hours, but I haven't been able to find anything directly related to my problem. I want to create a plot with several lines displayed on it. I want each line to be displayed in a different color, so it seems the only way to do this is to create a plot and then use the lines() function.

Shading underneath a line plot.
Hi, I'm sure this should be fairly simple to do but I haven't found an example. I have 10 data points which are plotted as a line, I want to shade under this line with a colour. Other examples have shading under curves where there are two sets of data use polygons. mydata <- c(268,251,254,250,244,246,247,243,241,243) plot(mydata, type="o")

polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
I am trying to use the angle option in polygon to create polygons filled with horizontal and vertical lines. The polygons I am crating are irregular and it the angle function appears to set the angle of the shading perpendicular to the polygon sides rather than perpendicular to the axes. Is there any way to set the angle relative to the axes rather than relative to the polygon sides?

polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
Filling polygons with lines is a throwback to the time when the height of quality graphics was the mechanical pen plotter (a device that used a pen in a mechanical arm to draw the plot on a piece of paper). Computing and printing technology has advanced quite a bit from that day, so you may want to reconsider why you want polygons filled with lines instead of just a solid color (and I consider

grid.polygon() + color gradient
Hi, I wonder whether there is a way to generate a polygon (a triangle in my case) with color gradient using grid.polygon() in package grid? I tried something like library(grid) grid.polygon(x=c(0, 0.5, 1), y=c(0.5, 1, 0.5), gp=gpar(col=NA, fill=colorRampPalette(c("green", "lightgray"), space="Lab")(200))) But am only

polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
The angle is not based on the polygon edges, but it can seem that way if you do not use the asp=1 argument in your plot. Try this example, > plot(1:10, 1:10, type='n') > x <- c(1, 3, 5, 3) > y <- c(3, 5, 3, 1) > polygon(x, y, angle=0, density=10) > polygon(x, y + 4.5, angle=45, density=10) > polygon(x + 4.5, y + 4.5, angle=90, density=10) > polygon(x + 4.5, y,

polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
Tena koe Simon plot(1:10, 1:10, type='n') polygon(c(2,3,6,8), c(2,5,5,3), density=20, angle=90) polygon(c(2,3,6,8), 5+c(2,5,5,3), density=20, angle=0) I don't understand your problem. Perhaps if you "provide[d] commented, minimal, self-contained, reproducible code" it would help. HTH .... Peter Alspach -----Original Message----- From: R-help [mailto:r-help-bounces at

polygon angle option perpendicular to axis
Thanks for the question. Here is a sample of the code for my plot: Top = c(34, 39, 42, 45, 46, 41, 41, 40, 43, 38, 33, 33) Bottom = c(24, 29, 32, 36, 32, 34, 32,41, 40, 39, 29, 24) plot(1,1, col = "white", xlim = c(1.3,11.7), ylim = c(0,80), axis = FALSE, xaxt = "n") axis(1, at = c(1:12)) polygon(c(c(1:12),c(12:1)), c(top, bottom), col =

shading an area of a graphic
Colleagues OS 10.5 R: 2.10.1 I have a simple x-y plot for which I would like to shade the lower (or upper) part of the interior region (i.e., the area bounded by the axes). If the delineation between top and bottom were linear, it would be use to use the polygon function. However, the delineation is a curve (which I can describe by an equation). In theory, I could divide the x-axis into a

Polygon shading line colors
Hi there, I'm having trouble working out how to change the colors of polygon shading lines. If I plot a polygon with polygon(poly,density=30,borders=gray(0.5)) I get gray borders but black shading lines; I have tried adding col=gray(0.5), bg=gray(0.5) and fg=gray(0.5), but no luck. How can I change the colors of the shading? The help file doesn't seem to detail this, so any

Filling polygons with points
Dear list, are there any possibilities to fill a polygon with a point pattern or with a symbol pattern like '+' oder '-' instead of shading lines? shade overlapping portions of circles (or other shapes)
I'm making some illustrations and it would be convenient to automatically shade the overlapping portions of circles. These illustrations are for Social Choice theory, a field in political science and economics. I've wrestled together some examples so you can see what I mean, but have not mastered the "color overlapping sections" problem (as you will see):

erasing an area of a graph
I have a case where the easiest way to draw a particular symbol would be to draw something a little bigger, and then use polygon(... , col=0) to erase the extra stuff. Just how to do this best when par('bg') = 'transparent' is, however, eluding me. I've looked through the archives and the book R Graphics without quite seeing the light. Help or pointers to help would be

colored shading lines
Hi all, it there any possibility to draw colored shading lines of a polygon plot? E.g. plot(polygon_object,col="red",density=10,angle=45) produces only black shading lines within the polygon. With many thanks for any hint Albrecht

calculating area between plot lines
Hi everyone. I have these data: probClass<-seq(0,0.9,0.1) prob1<-c(0.0070,0.0911,0.1973,0.2949,0.3936,0.5030,0.5985,0.6869,0.7820,0.8822) prob2<-c(0.0066,0.0791,0.2358,0.3478,0.3714,0.3860,0.6667,0.6400,0.7000,1.0000) # which I'm plotting as follows: plot(probClass,prob1,xlim=c(0,1),ylim=c(0,1),xaxs='i',yaxs='i',type="n") lines(probClass,prob1)

Adding shading to background of Time series plot
Hello All, Thank you in advance. I have looked up and down in the archives to see if I could find some help on moving the polygons to the background of a ts.plot. I've tried panel.first in the gpars(...) arguments and trellis.focus, but I get errors. Am I missing something easy here? Here is my script: ts.plot(tsdjia, tstenyield, gpars = list(xlab = " ", ylab = " ",

Adding polygons to a barplot
I have a barplot I have created using barplot2 and I have been able to add points and lines (using the points and lines methods, respectively). I now need to add some polygons (triangles in particular), that I want to be shaded to match bars in the plot. I can get the coordinates of the corners of the triangles, but don't know how to draw the triangles. I know there is the grid.polygon

legend with mixed boxes and lines (not both)
Hi, I seem to be unable to get a mixed legend that has lines *or* polygons (not both). For example: ppi <- seq(0,2*pi,length.out=21)[-21] frame() plot.window(ylim=c(-5,5),xlim=c(-5,5),asp=1) polygon(cos(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2),sin(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2), col="green",border=FALSE) polygon(cos(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1),sin(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1), col="blue",border=FALSE)

Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list, I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like to know where I should have filled it. And to the subject matter: I would like to use a command like this: plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n") polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),
