How is the overhead different whether your code checks it or Xapian does?

set_max_expansion in perl-bindings?
Hi,
I've just noticed that set_max_wildcard_expansion() has been removed in
favour of set_max_expansion() in Xapian.
Has the new method been added to the Perl-bindings?
We have some old Perl code that uses set_max_wildcard_expansion(), and I
have a test of too large expansion that now returns "something terrible
happened" instead of"Exception: Wildcard ... expands too much

Stemmer in Xapian, some questions from student.
Hello,
I am student from University of Science and Technology in Cracow. I would
like to ask you some questions about Xapian, because it is one of few
search engines I am testing.
1. What type of stemmer is used in Xapian? Are You able to write some
important features applied to Xapian?
2. We must use stemming for polish language. I read on Your webpage what
languages include Xapian. There is no

xapian websites available via https
Xapian?s websites (xapian.org, trac.xapian.org and lists.xapian.org) are now available via https: https://xapian.org, https://trac.xapian.org and https://lists.xapian.org/mailman/listinfo. (Currently https://lists.xapian.org/ redirects to non-https, because of limitations in mailman.)
It?d be helpful if people could check if they have any problem accessing the sites over https. Note that

That website has nothing to do with Xapian, so you probably need to
contact whoever runs it.

Full MVCC in Brass
I'm one of the developers of Notmuch, an email client that makes
extensive use of Xapian. For some time, full multi-version
concurrency control (MVCC) has been on our wish list. Olly mentioned
that brass now uses free lists---a key step toward full MVCC---and I
offered to pitch in on putting the other pieces into place.
Before I wade too deep into this, I wanted to propose my plan.

1.4 release series
The wiki roadmap page (http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/RoadMap) suggests
we aim to start a new stable release series every one to two years.
However, we're not doing a good job of implementing that - in fact we're
just about to hit 5.5 years since 1.2.0 was released.
And that's really much too long - we've built up a pile of nice new
features which it's hard for most people to

I was under the impression that you had to create an account and get it
verified first or something, to prevent spam, as I saw no
"Edit"-button/link, so I didn't even try.

64-bit R on OS X/G5?
Hi!
Does anyone know if there is a working 64-bit version of R for MacOs X
on G5? If so, is there a memory limit anyway or could I theroetically
use almost 8 GB in one session?

Distributed computing
Dear all,
does anyone know if there exists an effort to bring some kind of
distributed computing to R? The most simple functionality I'm after is
to be able to explicitly perform a task on a computing server. Sorry if
this is a non-informed newbie question...

Powered by Xapian
Hi,
I'm not so far, by now, of publicly releasing the next version of our
web site which is extensively using Xapian, so I thought it was time to
say "thank you" by adding in the footer and in the "credits" page of my
site the Xapian logo with a link back to the Xapian web site.
I was surprised to discover how hard it was for me to find how to do...

l2arc current usage (population size)
Hello,
How do you tell how much of your l2arc is populated? I''ve been looking for a while now, can''t seem to find it.
Must be easy, as this blog entry shows it over time:
http://blogs.sun.com/brendan/entry/l2arc_screenshots
And follow up, can you tell how much of each data set is in the arc or l2arc?

howdy R friends,
I've searched CRAN but to no avail... I'm trying to use mva's hclust and
print out for say 10 clusters in batch. How do I do this? It's unclear if
I can use cutree.
thanks,

F-test degree of freedoms in lme4 ?
I have a problem moving from multistratum aov analysis to lmer.
My dataset has observations of ampl at 4 levels of gapf and 2 levels of bl

Here is the summary of this set with aov:

how to print the full name of the factors in summary?
Hi,
I am wondering if there is a simple way to fix the problem I am having.
For unknown reason, I could not get the full name of the factors to be
printed in the summary. I have tried to used summary.lm as well but the
problem still persists.
