document_id globally incrementing
Hi All I have made my xapian indexer automatically create new indexes once it reaches X documents in each, and for each document that I add to each sub-index, I record its document_id and its index_id (relating to what index the document ended up in). writabledatabase_add_document() returns document_id:s beginning from 0 for each new index when you add new documents, like you would expect. So

Using boolean terms in PHP bindings
OK, I'm indexing my data with the scriptindex. I want to be able to restrict the search by the category field. Do I need to do anything to the data itself? Like, literally prefix it with the characters "XC"? Below is my indexor for scriptindex and the my php code... document_id : field=ref unique=Q boolean=Q search_id : field=document_id index=S document_title : field=title

refreshing indexes?
I am new to ferret and am just reading about it in the O''reilly shortcuts as well as other web resources. My app is a Rails app and so I am looking into acts_as_ferret as well. There are some questions for which I couldn''t find answers in the material I have read so far so I''d appreciate any help on these from the list. A bit of a background. My app will have 10,000 -

[PATCH] lib: command: switch from select() to poll()
select() has a maximum value for the FDs it can monitor, and since the libguestfs library can be used in other applications, this limit may be hit by users in case lots of FDs are opened. As solution, switch to poll(): it has a slightly better interface to check what changed and for which FD, and it does not have a limit in the value of the FDs monitored. poll() is supported on the platforms we

[PATCH 0/4] Small refactorings of the protocol layer.
As the start of work to add remote support, I'm taking a close look at the protocol layer in the library. These are some small cleanups. Rich.

related documents
Hi All, I would like to take a doc in the xapian DB and find all related documents by relevance e.g. so when you view one document it says "Related entries X Y Z". I'm aware of the "Morelikethis" Lucene plugin that is supposed to do something like this, by generating a query from a document based on term frequency. Has anyone developed a tool to generate a query from a

writabledatabase_delete_document()
Hi guys I have implemented xapian on a website, and it currently has about 2M items in its index. Its all been working quite nicely so far, until I tried removing some old items from the index (removing items when the index was smaller was no problems at all). When I try to remove them now (using writabledatabase_delete_document() via php), it halfway freezes up the machine, and the apache

Explanation of how Eset works
Hey guys hi.I am trying to understand how Xapian works .I read the Theoretical Background to Xapian doc and the report by Salton and Jones.I still cant seem to understand how Eset works How exactly does Xapian add terms to expand a query ? Assuming we have a list of the k most important terms, how do we decide which term to add to the query and will be in context with the query ? And to decide r

[PATCH 0/3] protocol: Abstract out socket operations.
I've been taking a long hard look at the protocol layer. It has evolved over a long time without any particular direction, and the result is, to say the least, not very organized. These patches take a first step at cleaning up the mess by abstracting out socket operations from the rest of the code. The purpose of this is to allow us to slot in a different connection layer under the

POP3 LAST command?
Hello, any plans to support this in the future? Seems the inability to use LAST breaks that Yahoo remote mailbox slurper thing, not that I care too much about that, but some mail clients might miss it as well. ;) Regards, Christian Balzer -- Christian Balzer Network/Systems Engineer NOC chibi at gol.com Global OnLine Japan/Fusion Network Services http://www.gol.com/

Sweavelistingutil: Encoding problems
Hello, I am not sure whether this is a bug or lack of R experience. However, I am using your Sweavelistingutil package, which is very nice. Obviously I use it to create LaTeX files. These are encoded in utf8. However, when I use the Sweavelistingutil is uses some funky character for "`" and "'" that is not recognized. Here is an example from my tex-file: ,---- |
