Xapian posting lists in memory mode
Dear Members of Xapian Project,
Sorry for troubling you this time. This is Miao LIU, a postgraduate student working on information retrieval system related areas.
I have been using Xapian (https://xapian.org) for quite a few months as the database and the searching engine in my IR system. I am currently facing
a tough problem that I'd like to put all my posting lists in memory of my

Building on Windows
Hi,
I am brand new to Xapian and am trying to get it to build on my Windows
XP SP2 computer. I have downloaded cygwin and did a full install. I
have downloaded the most recent xapian-core code.
Here is what I have done so far:
a. I unpacked the core and put in at c:\xapian-core-0.9.0
b. I then opened a cmd window, typed 'sh' to open up the cygwin shell
and then typed in the

Xapian InMemoryDatabase Concurrent Control Problem
Dear Members of Xapian Project,
Sorry for troubling you this time. I am currently facing a challenge that I can not search and update Xapian "InMemoryDatabase" concurrently
via 2 different threads although I have added the critical area mutex which allows only reading/writing at one single time. More specifically,
along with the core dump, the error message was "double free or

Backend for Lucene format indexes-How to get doclength
*Or do you mean that it's one number per document whereas the other stats
are per database, so it's harder to store it?*
yes, I mean this. It's a huge data. If a new doclength list(contains all
the doclength in a list, like chert)
is added by myself, I am concern about:
1. This doclength list may be the bottlenect in this backend,

Backend for Lucene format indexes-How to get doclength
Hi, all:
I have wrote a demo patch for Backend for Lucene format indexes, Lucene
version is 3.6.2.
http://lucene.apache.org/core/3_6_2/fileformats.html
Now, this demo patch just support the basic features in Lucene. Compound
File(.cfs/.cfe)?term vector(.tvx/.tvd/.tvf)
delete document(.del) are not supported, skip list in .fdx is not supported
too
example/quest.cc is used to test this demo.

xapian core missing link to math on MSYS2
Dear All,
I've tried to build xapian-core 1.4.3 on MSYS2. It fails with attached
error (undefined reference to `exp10'). I think it might be missing an
explicit link to 'm'. I'm not able to fix this myself as I do not
know autotools sufficiently well, but I hope you might be able to help.
Cheers,

For the record, Mark just reported this to me under windows so it was a
problem there too, but it does work under GCC 4.1. No idea which

docid type redifine
Hello all.
I need to redefine a docid type (and all dependent types) like this: typedef unsigned long long docid;
I think it would be enough to edit "include/xapian/types.h", but it isn't so.
1) I've added :
string
om_tostring(unsigned long long val)
{
CONVERT_TO_STRING("%llu")
}
in common/utils.{h,cc}
2) In include/enquire.h (line 438) I've found the

It sounds similar (especially if document and field boosts aren't in use),

FASTER Search
I am suffering for slow searching performance on Xapian.
I am using Xapian for indexing about 150,000,000 documents.
It was implemented in C++;
The performance of searching was not that fast.
e.g. Searching a query, which includes about 20 terms, needs 2 secs avg.
For searching, I followed such steps:
1. construct a QueryParser for certain string
2. parse the query to get a Xapian::Query

If you don't provide an implementation of wdf_upper_bound(), the default
is to use the collection frequency of the term, so provided that
information is available in the lucene files, the lack of
wdf_upper_bound information

About memory index/search in multithread program
There may be some solutions?for example
class XAPIAN
{
*static* int InitDatabase(); //for reading only, do not need lock, but
if writing use lock
int Search(); //safe in one object, do not need lock
};
XIPIAN xp[ THREAD_NUM ];
one thread use one object, they use one database.
these can be in memory with one database.

Displaying environment differences
Sometimes after playing around in R for a while, I find myself thinking,
"What have I done?". Which boils down to "What's the difference between
the objects I currently have in my R session and those that were loaded
from my .RData when I started R".
So I bashed this out in five minutes, just to test the principles.

About memory index/search in multithread program
hi,
Why xapian don't support memory index/search ?
I know there is a method can create memory datebase, like this:
Xapian::WritableDatabase db(Xapian::InMemory::open());
*But, if i use these in multithread program, i need create many
datebases!!*
Xapian::WritableDatabase db1(Xapian::InMemory::open()); //used in thread1
Xapian::WritableDatabase db2(Xapian::InMemory::open()); //used in

Relicensing Xapian
This is an update on the current status of the relicensing, but also an
opportunity to give feedback. Sorry it's rather long, but I think it's
necessary to summarise the situation - there are probably list members
who weren't even born at the start of the history of this!
Xapian is currently licensed as GPLv2+, but isn't something we actually
chose for Xapian, but rather due to a

build error : xapian-core-0.9.4_svn6707
I posted this message first. But it was missing so I post again.
I think there is a some bug in build configration files.
Can you check up the following errors and fix it?
The error has no concern with UTF-8 patch.
Environment : CentOS 4.3 x86_64

Weird problem with PL2 tests
Hi olly, I rewrote the test for PL2 after adding code to deal with negative
weights. It passes on all backends other than inmemory . I see a different
value of weight for inmemory backend. The code to calculate the lower bound
is implemented in init().Please can I get some help with this ?
