A question about project " Lua bindings for Xapian"
Hello all, I am interested in the project "Supporting another language(Lua)". It difficulty is medium-hard. Then my question is: How many lines of code does it need to implement this project? I found some code in other languages binding is generated by SWIG. Then what part of code do we need to write, and what part of code are generated by SWIG? Best Regards, Xiaona

Hi~ Manu I was glad to see you were interested in Xapian, especially the learning to rank project. There are two branch in my repo. The one named gsoc2014 is followed the thought of Parth's work in which we not assign the test set for each ranking and in another one gsoc2014-evaluation we assign the training set and test set explicitly so that we can get the evaluation score of each ranking

Hi I am on Debian verson 7.7, GCC 4.7.2 and make 3.8.1. I cloned the code : git clone https://github.com/v-hasu/xapian git checkout gsoc2014-evaluation rm xapian-letor/nobootstrap ./bootstrap ./configure --no-documentation make CXXFLAGS='-w' and I get a different set of errors --- ranker.cc: In member function 'std::string Xapian::Ranker::get_cwd()': ranker.cc:80:36: error:

I use Ubuntu12.04, GNU Make 3.81 and I am not sure if I use some special configure options. The commands I use after clone the repo are as follows: cd xapian ./bootstarp ./configure make cd xapian-letor aclocal -I ../xapian-core/m4 libtoolize --force autoconf autoheader automake --add-missing ./configure make Is this normal? 2014-12-07 22:37 GMT+08:00 James Aylett <james-xapian at

GSoC 2012: Backend for Lucene format indexes
Hi All, I'm Billy, a senior undergraduate student in Peking University. I'm working in the area of Information Retrieval and Web Mining. When going through the idea list, I felt quite interested in the "Backend for Lucene format indexes" project. I have been using java-lucene for about one year, but my subsequent work prefers C++ codes. This project is very meaningful to smooth

Warning from ExtUtils::MakeMaker
Installation was OK and all works well, but this warning is bad :-/ tried 15 min to find the failure (there is no failure) ... $ perl Makefile.PL XAPIAN_CONFIG=/root/build/xapian-core/bin/xapian-config PREFIX=/root/build/Search-Xapian Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good 'XAPIAN_CONFIG' is not a known MakeMaker parameter name. Writing Makefile for Search::Xapian $ perl

Crashes with spelling enabled and perl.
Hi Guys, Here's a simple test case that causes a segfault with the perl bindings patched to enable spelling correction: use strict; use warnings; use Search::Xapian; my $db = Search::Xapian::WritableDatabase->new("test.db", Search::Xapian::DB_CREATE_OR_OPEN); if (!defined($db)) { die("Failed to open xapian_database: $!"); } my $indexer =

Xapian 1.2.2 released
I've uploaded Xapian 1.2.2 (including Search::Xapian 1.2.2.0). If you are wondering what happened to 1.2.1, a couple of portability issues were found after packaging it but before announcing it, so we decided not to widely publicise it, and prepare 1.2.2 to fix these. The logs showed at least one download of 1.2.1 already, hence we didn't just reuse that version. As usual you can

Does OP_NEAR works with stemming?
Hi All, I used the OP_NEAR operator for queryparser, and when I searched for "apple store" from my own collection, the query is parsed as "Zappl:(pos=1) NEAR 11 Zstore:(pos=2)" but retrieved nothing. However, if I type in "Apple Store", the query is parsed as Xapian::Query((apple:(pos=1) NEAR 11 store:(pos=2))) and some results are showed. I'm not sure whether

custom ValueRangeProcessor in Perl?
Hello, I'm using the XS Perl bindings packaged with Debian stable and am interested in implementing my a custom ValueRangeProcessor (using DateTimeX::Easy for human-friendly date parsing) Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's possible with the add_valuerangeprocessor API via Perl. Reading the XS/*ValueRangeProcessor.xs source files, I'm seeing "process_value_range"

sorting large msets
Hello, is there a way to optimize sorting by certain values for queries which return a huge amount of results? For example, I just want a simple query that gives me the 200 most recent emails out of millions. The elapsed time for get_mset increases as the number of documents ($n * 2000) increases. I suppose I could store a pre-sorted set using SQLite or similar. Thanks in advance for any
