CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all, I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with") are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or "openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the Nautilus wants to know what it should

nautilus problem and smbclient question
Hi, I'm having a problem getting smb to work through Nautilus and in trying to diagnose the problem, I ended up with another problem with smbclient(1), or more likely a misunderstanding on my part about how it is supposed to work. I'm using the following packages on an up2date RH8.0 box. # rpm -qa | grep samba samba-common-2.2.7-2 samba-2.2.7-2 samba-client-2.2.7-2 # rpm -qa | grep

Samba and Nautilus
Like a good many others, I encountered difficulty getting Nautilus to work properly with Samba, in my case using SuSE 9.0. It now works properly. Based on my experience, I offer the following suggestions. First, before trying to do anything complex, make certain that your lmhosts and hosts files are configured properly. Be sure that all IP addresses and host names the Linux side match

Can't browse network using nautilus
Hi, I'n using the nautilus file browser in a GNOME desktop environment on a FC2 system. If I enter smb:/// in the location bar in nautilus I can see the network but whenever I try to look at the shares on a computer I get a message saying that I do not have permissions to view the contents. I looked in the archives and found a thread on a similar problem. This thread mentioned that

Nautilus / Desktop Icons
Hi, I've a nautilus problem with CentOS 4. It doesn't show the desktop items any more (also after dropping all gnome files/dirs from a users homedir) en the right mouse button menu also doesn't work. Googling around I've found various items about the problem but until now not a clear solution. Some people mention some 'browser mode in nautilus preferences'. But I

Mounting NFS file systems via Nautilus on CentOS 6
Looks like Nautilus is periodically 'stat'-ing the bookmark location. How about making a softlink to the target dir in your home directory, then bookmarking the link in nautilus. Hopefully Nautilus will stat the link and not the target then. K

Block file system browing with Nautilus
Hello All, It's possible to lock down the Gnome desktop so that a user can't open a terminal. One of the steps includes not letting Nautilus manage the desktop, but that's okay. However, it's still possible to browse the file system with Nautilus by clicking on "Computer" in the tool bar, and then on "Filesystem". I want to block this. Can the

CentOS 7.5 Nautilus 100% reproducible crash.
Pardon me, but I forgot to add that right after this crash, htop as root shows the VBoxClient service running maxed on one core until system is rebooted. Not sure if it is CentOS bug or VirtualBox bug because this did not happen in 7.4 on same version of VirtualBox, and unfortunately I don't have access to a bare metal machine on which to install and test. -----Original Message----- From:

Can't access Samba shares from Nautilus
Le 19/10/2018 ? 10:30, Nicolas Kovacs a ?crit?: > Any idea what's missing here or why this doesn't work as expected ? OK, I've investigated this a little further, and it looks like I have a partial success. In Nautilus, I pressed Ctrl+L and then typed in the Samba server URL: smb://amandine Now my two shares ("Public" and "Confidentiel") appeared OK in

Nautilus and umask on CentOS 7 with Gnome3
We have a problem whereby Nautilus is not using the umask setting defined by the user (e.g. when creating directories via the the 'Places' menu). The umask used by Nautilus is 022, but the shell umask (in our case) is set to 002 A quick search seems to suggest that this a common problem, and various methods are suggested to 'fix' this - the only way that appears to work on
