lmtp bouncing -- Invalid parameters (in reply to MAIL FROM command)
I just configured postfix' virtual_transport to point at my dovecot
director, but am seeing occational problems like this:

trash plugin not doing it's job
I enabled the trash plugin yesterday, adding "trash" to mail_plugins,
and configuring the plugin setting "trash =
/etc/dovecot/dovecot-trash.conf.ext".
But I still see users with lots of files in INBOX.Trash getting
bounced because of quota exceeded:

interesting stats pattern
Hey all, im experimenting with dovecot stats service, and graphing the result. My initial results are kind of interesting. Check out this graph showing connected sessions and users:

At first I thought maybe one of our 35 imap servers was having issues sending data, but all individual servers show this patters. Here is a bunch of individual servers:

Loadbalance Repo / ldirectord packages?
Hi *,
we want to migrate our loadbalancers running CentOS 5.6 to new hardware
and CentOS 6, however the (heartbeat-)ldirectord package seems to be
hidden in the new LoadBalance repo in RHEL6. Any chance to get the RHEL
SRPMs from this repo?

additional range parameter for sip peer
Many ITSP are using loadbalancers, so if somebody registers on a sip
peer with specific dns host, an incoming call may be received from a
different ip and the host value in peer section doesnt match, so it will
go to default context.
For example Telekom or 1&1, biggest providers in Germany are using too
many different addresses that its not practical to define them all (up

Crash in director/lmtp-proxy (lmtp_proxy_output_timeout)
FYI, we saw one panic on our director/lmtp-proxy yesterday. It's running
dovecot v2.0.13, so it very well might have been fixed already.., but here
it is anyway:

High load averages with latest kernel and USB drives?
I'm having a server report a high load average when backing up Postgres
database files to an external USB drive. This is driving my loadbalancers all
out of kilter and causing a large volume of network monitor alerts.
I have a 1TB USB drive plugged into a USB2 port that I use to back up the
production drives (which are SCSI). It's working fine, but while doing backups

Design details of high performance dovecot cluster
Dear All,
Currently we are running a mail system for 10000 users each 2GB mailbox. At
present we have 5 mail servers where users mailboxes are distributed almost
uniformly. We have a HP SAN Storage (HP EVA 6400) where mailboxes are
stored. We partition the storage into five vg and each is mounted on the 5
servers. We are using postfix and dovecot.
The system was running fine but currently we

NFS vs Replication
Thank you all for replies!!!
Some missing infos...
- As load balancer I'm using a pair of keepalived with simple setup and
not the DNS
- Load balancer algorithm is "Weighted Least-Connection"
- About 20 domains and 3000 email
- I'm monitoring my backend servers with poolmon
- The backend servers are virtual machine (vmware) with datastore on
"all flash" storage

We had been using a loadbalancer with persistence to reduce the
problems, and today I switched to everything running on a single box to
avoid any cross-node contention. Unfortunately, the problem still
happens, even when they were all running

dovecot ldap failed to recover
One of our backend pop/imap-server running dovecot v1.2.16 experienced
some problems yesterday. It suddenly couldn't authenticate users
anymore, flooding the logs with:

usernames with/without domain - my solution
My existing pop3/imap environment is courier imap + vpopmail + qmail with MySQL backend. I'm looking at migrating this to Dovecot.
Currently I have multiple instances of Courier bound to different loopback IPs (the IPs correspond with the virtual IPs on a server load balancer). When a user authenticates they don't have to specify a domain - if they don't, Courier will use a

Corrupt index files
I am running Dovecot IMAP on Linux, on a LizardFS storage cluster with
Maildir storage. This has worked well for most of the accounts for
several months.
However in the last couple of weeks we are seeing increasing errors
regarding corrupted index files. Some of the accounts affected are
unable to retrieve messages due to timeouts.
It appeared the problems were due to the accounts being accessed

High-Availability Clustering and drbd?
Does anyone here on this list have experience with HA clustering?
I'm previewing drbd as a potential tool, and wanted to know if anyone here has
experiemented with it at all... How stable is it? Does the additional
likelyhood of failure given the additional complexity actually get
compensated by a better overall system?

Any feedback is welcome...

director monitoring?
I'm working the kinks of a new director based setup for the eventual
migration away from courier. At this point, with everything basically
working I'm trying to ensure that things are properly monitored and I've
run into an issue. There doesn't appear to be a way to get dovecot to
tell if it is (or is not) connected and properly synced with the other
director servers in the ring

Fault tolerant architecture
Hi,
I'm new to this list and want your help.
I'm the mail admin for some domains in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. Today we have only one machine running dovecot (imap+pop3) with local mail.
We are migrating to two virtual machines in kvm running in separate hosts. Then we have two main problems:
- How to share mail files to both dovecots? We've been thinking about NFS using local indexes.
