limit number of simultaneous lmtp deliveries ?
We have quite a few frontend mail gateways that deliver incoming email trough our dovecot director (lmtp proxy) to the backend lmtp servers, and are seeing this logged on the frontend mail gateways: Sep 5 10:51:56 mailgw1 postfix/lmtp[23443]: 0E2F41C01A: to=<me at example.com>, relay=loadbalancers.example.com[192.168.42.15]:24, delay=61, delays=0.02/0.3/31/30, dsn=4.4.0, status=deferred

Something is writing a log
I can just be sittting, doing nothing, and I hear the sound of my hardrive head moving. Just every so often. Like some process is writing a log. I have looked in /var/log and do see occational updates to acpi and messages, but that does not account for all the clicks. Is there somewhere else to look for logs? I would really like to know what process has something to remember.....

interesting stats pattern
Hey all, im experimenting with dovecot stats service, and graphing the result. My initial results are kind of interesting. Check out this graph showing connected sessions and users: http://grab.by/dReu At first I thought maybe one of our 35 imap servers was having issues sending data, but all individual servers show this patters. Here is a bunch of individual servers: http://grab.by/dReC

VoIP experiences with Cable and DSL
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, A thought occurred to me; Background; In the early days of cable, the cable people seemed clueless to things like over selling bandwidth. But as time went along they got it better and better under control. Of course their natural competitor, DSL, created a bigger demand for them to get things under control. Today cable is often giving

Loadbalance Repo / ldirectord packages?
Hi *, we want to migrate our loadbalancers running CentOS 5.6 to new hardware and CentOS 6, however the (heartbeat-)ldirectord package seems to be hidden in the new LoadBalance repo in RHEL6. Any chance to get the RHEL SRPMs from this repo? Regards, Peter

additional range parameter for sip peer
Many ITSP are using loadbalancers, so if somebody registers on a sip peer with specific dns host, an incoming call may be received from a different ip and the host value in peer section doesnt match, so it will go to default context. For example Telekom or 1&1, biggest providers in Germany are using too many different addresses that its not practical to define them all (up to 50 hosts

Bug: lmtp proxy does not quote local parts with spaces
There seems to be a bug with RFC822 processing in ltmp proxying that doesn't quote local parts that, for example, contain spaces. director config: director_username_hash = %Ln lmtp_proxy = yes recipient_delimiter = + protocol lmtp { auth_socket_path = director-userdb auth_username_chars = auth_username_format = %Ln passdb {

Dovecot 2.0+LMTP: Legal MAIL FROM rejected?
Hi, I run Dovecot 2.0.13 fed by Postfix over LMTP. Today it rejected one mail Postfix and Amavis accepted, generating a bounce. It was just a spammail, but I think the sender address is legal according to RFC5321 and should be accepted. I don't like generating bounces, email should be either rejected by postfix/pre-queue-amavis or delivered. Jun 6 12:32:47 mail postfix/qmgr[840]:

Dovecot LMTP rejecting mail from address with apostrophe
Hi, I have an OpenSMTPD / Dovecot installation on an OpenBSD server. I recently came across an issue where Dovecot LMTP would reject a message sent to a local user from an address which contains a single apostrophe (e.g. firstname.o'lastname at example.com). Apparently apostrophe, as well as a number of other special characters, are valid characters in the local part of the email address

Shared Folders?
Hello everybody (esp. Timo ;)), in an attempt to replace our cyrus imapd with something less bloated I have recently evaluated some of the younger imapd implementations, namely bincimap and also dovecot. Bincimap didn't work properly with mozilla for me, dovecot hasn't failed on any test, yet. Unfornationally, since we have been using cyrus for over 1.5 yrs, we pretty much depend on the

little problem with lmtp and 8bitmime mail from:
Hi all, I'm very excited to see lmtp in dovecot now. Starting to play, I encountered following problem: With senders in normal mail address format, everything is delivered right, lmtp works as expected. But with 8bitmime senders, like kernel mailing list, lmtp returns a 5.5.4 not supported and mail is bounced. Is this expected, meaning just not implemented, or could it be a bug? E.g.:
