I am having problems on with locally generated mail on a box (production) that was just updated to 4.8-RELEASE from 4.62 After trying all manor of cures noted by others here and in google I have managed to get past the permission denied messages in the system log, but not in maillog. FreeBSD pam auth problems
I'm impressed by dovecto and try to upgrade my home system from wu-imapd running there for last 5 years to dovecot. It's straghtforward FreeBSD setup with ssl-only auth, inboxes in /var/mail and user mail under %h/Mail But I get some strange error: Fatal: userdb didn't return a home directory, but mail location used it (%h): %h/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u Thank you in advance!

sendmail + plain auth
I'm probably missing something obvious, but I can get sendmail to give me AUTH PLAIN and LOGIN options. What I have is fairly standard configuration. The relevant part of sendmail.mc looks something like this: define(`confCACERT_PATH',`/etc/ssl/certs') define(`confCACERT',`/etc/ssl/ca-bundle.crt') define(`confSERVER_CERT',`/etc/ssl/smtp.crt')

Sendmail with TLS, permission problem
Hello, list, I have a problem with Sendmail configuration. I'm building (on CentOS 5) a "dual-MTA" setup with amavisd-new (as specified in amavisd-new documentation, file README.sendmail-dual). So far so good. But when I tried to add server SMTP-AUTH and TLS, I get a strange, permission-related error, and STARTTLS will not start. In my .mc conf, the Sendmail user is now the usual

Hi all, I'm working my way through v6ing our network. I have a mail server with the default dovecot/sendmail configuration working happily for pop3, pop3s, imap, imaps, smtp, and smtps on v4. CentOS 4.3/postfix/procmail lock failures
Hello, What is the proper solution to the problem below the sig? For a similar issue, Phillip Guenther, procmail's maintainer, at <http://article.gmane.org/gmane.mail.procmail/1623/match=error+writing+var+spool+mail> suggests "chmod g+s /usr/bin/procmail", but I'm reluctant. There are also suggestions that in this configuration the packager must make certain that

Cannot start sm-client on CentOS
Starting up sendmail I get: Starting sm-client: can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueue/): Permission denied Program mode requires special privileges, e.g., root or TrustedUser. I assume the user used for sm-client is smmsp. However, that user has /var/spool/mqueue as homedir and I added him to the trusted users list. FYI, that user has disabled login (which should be okay) and the group has a

login on WinNT and 9X
Hi, I am a new member of this list and I couldn't find and message to help me in the Samba archives. We're migrating from a FreeBSD 4.0 server with Samba2 to a FreeBSD 5.3 server with Samba 3.0.12_1,1. These too servers are on the same network, but workgoups are different (old server is DESQ-Samba and the new one is NDESQ). Our network have Windows 95, 98, NT, 2k and XP! This old

sendmail not sending after reboot
HI folks, I've an up-to-date CentOS 5.x box on a small intranet (<20 users). We did a reboot over the weekend and all appears well except that clients on the LAN can no longer send email. Just hangs/times out. No clear identifiers in the /var/log/maillog or /var/log/messages. We're not setup for ESMTP as it's a closed network and I'm really hoping for a kickstart as to

SSSD on CentOS 7 failing to start when connecting to 4.8.3 AD via LDAP
I've been going around in circles with this for days and I'm stuck. I'm trying to run up a new AD environment with only Samba 4.8.3 servers that we'll authenticate user server access against via SSSD/LDAP using a simple bind. All of our servers are either CentOS 6 or 7. I've created a test environment with a single Samba AD 4.8.3 server as the AD server, a Windows 7 client

limiting authentication failures
In my log files I occasionally get a huge number of Dovecot authentication failures (see clip below). I wanted to know if there's a way to limit the number of times an IP address can attempt to authenticate, if there's a way to have a timeout between attempted authentications, or if there is a way to limit authentication attempts by a specific username within a certain period of time.
