R and computer heat
Hi, I noticed the temperature of my laptop rises sharply during execution of a long R script that generates several hundred plots, all of them saved to files. No screen output. Temps reached above 90 Celsius degrees in the box and above 80 C deg in the processor. The machine turns on cooler at maximum speed and exhaled air is really hot. Tried similar operations (batch graphic and music

For now I think that my box does not recognize signal about low battery - I'm only started to read SHUT

plot ᵒ C in graph axis label
Readers, For a part of the 'plot' command: ...ylab=expression(paste('rate (',degree~C^-1,')'))... Is it possible to introduce 'thinspace' (e.g. '\thinspace' in LaTeX) between the degree (?) sign and the centigrade (C) symbol? -- r2151

kworker 100% of single core on mulit-core processor usage inquiry
Greetings everyone. I am experiencing the kworker issue where a kworker is using 100% of a given core. This behavior was only observed after having installed a new water cooler, to replace a cooler that had died. (Sealed closed loop device from Corsair) The processor is staying around 40 degrees celsius as reported by the MB UEFI interface. (ksysguard shows between 29 degrees and 30 degrees,

Checking fan state
I just replaced my fan in my nc2400. It was a 5hour job. Had to pull EVERYTHING to get to where they have the fan in the thing. Now I want to know if it is working. It is suppose to be thermostatically controlled, and it takes time to heat up. So how can I find out what Centos knows about the system temp and fan state? It was hard to tell if I put the connector in the right way. At least

Regarding : ATI video driver problems
I gather from the discussion on the reference thread that I'll be having quite a time with a MB having an Integrated ATI Radeon HD 3000 graphics chip set and a video card using a Radeon HD 6570 chip set when I try to run CentOS 6.4 on it. I was going to ask if CrossFire works with CentOS, but it appears that the integrated chip set isn't going to work at all. Well, ignoring all that,

Offtopic: (Stupid newbie question) Xiphophorous, or XYphophorous
I was just playing with GDict, and I tried looking up Xiphophorous. The closest entry is for "Xyphophorous helleri". Why the difference in spelling? Was this on purpose? (In my opinion, Xiphophorous looks cooler than Xyphophorous). 1.0-test77
http://dovecot.org/ It's hot in here. Something like 25-30c for many days now. My brains don't work in that heat. So, this is still not an 1.0-alpha1. I'll put it out when I think the release will actually be fully working :) Changes since test76: - Fixes to FETCHing MIME body parts, especially with message/rfc822 attachments. We hadn't been handling this entirely correctly

Motherboards and IRQs
Someone mentioned earlier (I can't find the message now) that they had a motherboard that allowed you to change IRQ assignments in BIOS. Does anyone happen to know how to identify motherboards that can do this? I'm going to put together a new machine now and I'm having trouble picking a motherboard for it (ordering from Dell or other online vendor is not an option, since I need

backing up comments
All this talk about vorbis comments has made me think. Would it be possible to create backups of the Vorbis comments for my vorbis collection (currently about 1850 files) ? Instead of having to make sure I enter the correct details into CDex (saving in to cdplayer.ini & backing up that), or if I have comments in the Vorbis files that aren't stored in cdplayer.ini, such as the tags

PostgreSQL Array field type
It seemed to me that rails extract the special database field type (Array .. In PostgreSQL) as a string.. {'One','Two'} wouldn't it be great if it got converted to a Ruby array directly? _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list Rails-1W37MKcQCpIf0INCOvqR/iCwEArCW2h5@public.gmane.org http://lists.rubyonrails.org/mailman/listinfo/rails

ggplot2 - regression statistics how to display on plot
Hello - So I am trying to use ggplot2 to show a linear regression between two variables, but I want to also show the fit of the line on the graph as well. I am using ggplot2 for other graphics in what I am working on, so even though this would be a fairly easy thing to do in Excel, I would prefer to do it in R to keep my look and feel, and I think ggplot2 is just cooler. Here is a sample

Melting TDM card
Yesterday FedEx brought me my new TDM400P with 4 FXS modules. I installed it (in the correct type PCI slot) , plugged in the power, and fired up the system. A few minutes later everyone in the office is complaining about something burning. I open the server again, and the top of the Digium card is black, slightly deformed, and looks and smells of melted plastic. The funny thing is.the card

Asterisk SIP attacks and sshguard
Hello, We had been seeing SIP-guessing attacks on our Asterisk server here. While it wasn't that hard to write a once-a-minute cron job to spank the lusers, that runs once a minute and creates little spikes in the usage and I/O graphs, and is slower to respond than I'd really prefer. I felt that it'd be much cooler to get something more comprehensive put together. We don't use
