problem in setting up proxy
Hi!
First of all, can you provide output of 'doveconf -n'? It's much cleaner
to read and shows what's really there?

passwd file for quota
Yes and No.
It's confusing to me which is why I ask.
Per my initial email my password source is PAM.
It's the userdb I'm concerned about ... which dovecot is using /etc/passwd.
So dovecot is getting user information from passwd file; password
information from PAM.
I need to add extra fields for qouta but can't add them to /etc/passwd
so I have to create a passwd with the extra

Multi OS boot and shared secret trouble
Hello
We are facing a boring trouble with multi OB boot machines
that access to our samba server.
All machines authenticate to samba PDC ( linux debian etch + windows )
It appears when machines windows's bootup the shared secret is changed
by windows
if we reboot the same machine under Linux it cannot authenticate
anymore because Linux does NOT change the shared secret ...
The machines

problem in setting up proxy
Hello,
We're having difficulty with our updated cluster of dovecot servers
accessing the email storage on the NFS mounts.? It seems index files get
corrupted when 2 backend mailservers access the same account, and from
documentation setting up a director proxy in front of the backup
servers.? I'm trying to just set up a straight proxy first, which the
documents say is the first step, and

User authentication using local file
Hi,
The args parameter of userdb contains scheme, username format and location
of the password file. Please take a look this link
https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/authentication/passwd_file/
For example, mine is:
userdb {
driver = passwd-file
args = username_format=%u /etc/dovecot/imap.passwd
}
$ head /etc/dovecot/imap.passwd
to at localhost.local

Hello people!!
First, thanks very much to Ejay Hire and to John Peacock for your
quickly answer!!
Now, I've dovecot installed, I downloaded the source and I compiled
them. It's running ok now.
But.....as I am new in all these issues I have some problems with the
configuration.
I have a user called "webmaster" that have a mail into /var/spool/mail,
I want to redirect these

I am not sure if I understand it correctly, that this configuration is for each user has its mailbox in its home directory. This is not my intention, I have in 10-mail.conf the mailloration configured as:
mail_location = maildir:/opt/local/var/spool/dovecot/%u:LAYOUT=fs

User authentication using local file
Hi,
There is a note in the document: *For a password database it?s enough to
have only the user and password fields. For a user database, you need to
set also uid, gid and preferably also home (see VirtualUsers). (gecos) and
(shell) fields are unused by Dovecot.*
You can leave empty what you don't need.
