OpenOffice.org 1.1.2 vs. 2.0.2
Hi,
I recently migrated from Slackware 10.2 to CentOS 4.3, upon advice of fellow
Slacker and CentOS user Daniel de Kok. Been working very intensively for the
last three weeks with it, and I must say: I really like it. This is the Real
Work(tm) Distro I was always looking for!
There's a practical reason for this: beginning on June 1st I will be chief
sysadmin of our village's town hall.

Serious bug in OpenOffice.org Calc shipped with CentOS
Hi,
Until now I've been a happy user of CentOS. Everything just works(tm),
and I don't care if application versions are slightly outdated.
Next week I have to give a series of classes for a company that recently
made the switch to Linux. On schedule is a one-week course for Writer
and Calc.
And right now I discover that one crucial function of Calc, "fill
series",

Integrating R in OpenOffice
Hi All,
A group of about 3-4 of us are looking into the possibility of incorporating R
into OpenOffice's (OO) spreadsheet component (sc) . We wish to use OO's nice
ODBC ability to query a postgresql-based gene expression database thus
populating an OO sc and then use Bioconductor via R to analyse user-selected
parts of this spreadsheet.
We've looked at and compiled and used

Change system-wide default configuration for FF and OO with /etc/skel
Hi,
I'm using a heavily tweaked CentOS 5.4 for desktop installs (here's what
it looks like: http://www.microlinux.fr/captures.html).
For every app I install, I try to configure a sensible default
configuration system-wide for all users. For example, once I found a
nice configuration for XMMS (default skin, loads of plugins, orange On
Screen Display in a nice font, etcetera), I put my

Since rpm from openoffice.org was not nicely integrate with Centos, what is
the best way to make OO uptodate, can i use (or depend on) package from fedora (it slightly
outdate but not too far from OO release).
Having see the huge spec file (around 3700 lines), building it ourself is
really not fun :(

Weird problems with OpenOffice
Hi:
1. Samba PDC and OpenOffice:
I've an strange problem with OpenOffice (2.3 and 2.4) and Samba as PDC (Debian
version 3.0.24-6etch10): I have a Windows XP Professional (SP3) connected to
a Samba PDC. When I click on a document located in my desktop, OO seems to
freeze for more than one minute, and then it loads the document. If I try to
load more documents, they load normally.
But,

OpenOffice 3.3.0 crashing on CentOS 5.5
The last few releases of OpenOffice have gotten very
unstable on my desktop which is a CentOS 5.5 i386 system.
After multiple crashes when doing embedded simple drawings
in OpenOffice writer (circles and lines with connections), I
started using the versions from Sun then Oracle. I am
now using version 3.3: openooffice.org3-3.3.0-9567. I've
lived with this but with version 3.x it has gotten

OpenOffice won't start up
Hi,
I just ran an install of OpenOffice 2.31 on Centos 5.1 using these instructions - http://www.melvilletheatre.com/articles/openoffice-fedora/index.html
Install seemed to go fine until I finished and then tried to start up K writer and none of the OO apps will start up from the menu. even though they are all showing up in start menu that 2.3 is installed. I'm using KDE mostly but have

(OT) OpenOffice.org calc chart strangeness.
I am attempting to create a simple line chart graphing three columns from a
soffice-calc spreadsheet. I expect it to take the leftmost column as the
X-Axis, plotting the others on the Y-Axis, but it always creates an X-Axis
of the row number in the columns, and the first column amongst the data.
I have tried this on OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, NeoOffice(R) 3.0.2 Patch 2,
iWork Pages, and Excel 12.2.4

Openoffice 2.3 on centos 5 issue
I have just install OOo 2.3 on new centos 5 box. However OO keep open registration wizard everytime launched, even though i already select "i do
not want to register".
I've been playing with "$HOME/.openoffice.org2/" but still no luck. This
problem did not happen on FC6, so i guess its not OOo bug.

Data corruption on external hard disk
Hi,
I'm using CentOS 5 on all my computers here (work + home) and I'm very
satisfied with it.
Some time ago I purchased a 300 GB external hard drive to store films,
music, pictures and documents. Since there's no Windows machine around
here (small South French village, town hall and public library use Linux
:o)), I replaced the FAT filesystem on the disk by an ext2 filesystem.

SSH, SCP connections to remote MySQL Database using OpenOffice Possible?
I'm trying to find a way to get remote connections from my Linux Desktop machine to a remote Linux box which is hosting a MySQL database, via SSH port 22, and then once connection is established, log in to the database port 3306 and have either an SSH and or SCP connection established so I can securely do edits and queries.
I am able to connect this way from my Windows machine to remote

Can't print from Firefox
Hi,
I've just installed CentOS 5.0 on my father's laptop, in replacement of
Windows XP. Everything runs fine, except I can't seem to print from
Firefox.
So far, I can print a test page from the CUPS interface (as root). As
user, printing works fine from applications such as GEdit or
OpenOffice.org Writer. But I can't print anything from Firefox.
Any suggestions?

Huge OO.org packages installed by default
I was just wondering if anyone here knows why the OO.org packages on
RHEL/Centos are so huge.
Eg. On Mandriva 2006:
40834529 OpenOffice.org
113064600 OpenOffice.org-libs
20124669 OpenOffice.org-help-en
19976941 OpenOffice.org-l10n-en
= ~185MB
On Centos 4:
683298379 openoffice.org-i18n
124072694 openoffice.org
111894560 openoffice.org-libs
= ~876MB!!
When I say 'installed by default' I

OpenOffice.org 3.1 installation was corrupted-installed again, nothing in Applications/Office menu
I had a corrupted installation of OpenOffice.org 3.1.
When I used "yum remove openoffice.org-core" the response was "package
openoffice.org-core available but not installed", but then, when I
used "yum install openoffice.org-core there was a long list of
Transaction Check Errors. I then removed
openoffice.org3.1-redhat-menus-noarch which was in the errors.

OpenOffice.org package for 7.0/i386?
Hi all,
Does anyone know where I can find an OpenOffice.org package for 7.0R on
i386? I can only find amd64 packages on ftp.freebsd.org and good-day.net.
I will try building it myself but I'm stuck on an old machine with limited
RAM at the moment, I don't think I've ever had an oo.org build succeed on
this box... :-(
Thanks,
Scott
