yumgroups.xml
Not sure if I'm overlooking this somehow but is there a yumgroups.xml file for the [base] repository in CentOS 5? I've checked a few mirrors and didn't see it and a `yum grouplist` with only the base, updates, and extras repositories enabled looks like this: Setting up Group Process Setting up repositories base 100% |=========================| 1.1 kB 00:00

hi, I have created a 6.2 local repository in our lan and it works fine for packages. However, when trying to use the yum groups, I get this: # yum grouplist Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, security Setting up Group Process Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile Error: No group data available for configured repositories I have tried downloading one comps.xml file (I have tried both with

Create a Yum repository for CentOS 5?
Hi, I'm using CentOS 5.1 on both server and desktops. I have a series of packages that I either rebuilt from CentOS SRPMS to modify them according to my needs (PHP for example), or that I built from Fedora Core SRPMS because they're not available on CentOS nor in the RPMForge repos (Seamonkey, MPD with libshout support, xmms-wma, ...). I want to create my own remote Yum repository

Installing a package group after the initial install
I recently installed a system using the CentOS 4.3 CDs which is now up and running. Everything is running fine, but I forgot to install one of the "package groups" that Anaconda offers as an option. Is there a way to install this group on a running system using the data on the CDs (i.e., not via a repository)? If not, is there a way to get the list of RPMs that belong to a

Need help resolving yum update issues on mixed architecture system
I have been using 32-bit CentOS since the 4.X days without a real need for 64-bit, but in preparation for CentOS 7, I have installed 64-bit CentOS 6 on a test system to qualify all our builds. However, in order to build some of our current 32-bit applications, I had to install some i686 packages, including glib. Now when I try to do a "yum update" on this test system, I get the dreaded

Yet another yum/rpm update problem
I am in the process of updating a dozen or so workstations from CentOS 4.3 to CentOS 4.4. I set up a local YUM repository, and have been able to successfully update all systems except for one. Both yum and rpm either hang or core dump on this system. I've done a "yum clean all" and an "rpm --rebuilddb" (after deleting the __db files). I was able to

CentOS 6 yum Groupinstall vs Manual install
Gentlemen, I have a question regarding yum groupinstall vs just using yum install. I have been reading tutorials online (for example how to run a Centos LAMP). Most of the tutorials have examples to install httpd, mysql, etc using yum install httpd.... The reason for this e-mail is that I noticed in yum grouplist that there is an option to install Web Server, MySQL database server, etc.

Can up2date use a local yum mirror?
If so, how do you configure the up2date client that comes with CentOS to look at the local yum mirror? Conversely, how do you disable the CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool so that users won't see the "throbbing red circle" and be tempted to launch the up2date client? Thanks, Alfred

Problem after crash during yum update
I was doing a "yum -y update" on a CentOS 4.5 system to get to 4.6 when my system froze. I couldn't ping it nor switch to an alternate console. It was completely frozen. The only recourse was to cycle the power. So I did that, and now when I try to do a "yum update" I get the following error: [many package header downloads deleted] tkinter-2.3.4-14.4.el4_6.

yum custom install
I am trying to learn some of the in's and out's of yum, and thanks to the help of many on this forum, things are beginning to make more sense (though I still have a lot more to learn). My initial Centos install was the "minimum". From there I used yum grouplist and yum installgroup. However, one of the members helped me with using yum to install php-mysql and I just found

yum vs. Alert Notification Tool
I'm running CentOS 4.2 and my CentOS Network Alert Notification Tool has been "red" for over a week now. It's telling me that there is one package available for update, namely shadow-utils-4.0.3-58. However, a "yum update" tells me there are no updates available. I've checked a few of the mirrors and they only appear to have shadow-utils-4.0.3-53. At first
