moving mail from private inbox to public folder kills the latter
Hi
I've ran into something rather nasty: if a user moves a mail from its
inbox to a public folder, the folder becomes inaccessible for others,
because the moved file will have the the permission 600 instead of 777
(or 666) which the rest of the emails have in the folder.
How can I change this behavior so when he moves the mail it
automatically becomes world-readable? Also why one mail

Weird glitches with public folders - Dovecot not using per-user INDEX?
Hi
I have this public folder:
namespace {
location = maildir:/home/_shared/projects:INDEX=~/Maildir/_shared
prefix = shared.
separator = .
subscriptions = no
type = public
}
Access is controlled by ACLs, everyone who has access is 'lrwstipek'
except for some people who also have 'xa' privileges.
As you can see it is set to put its index to the user's Maildir so

2.0.7: emails read emails become unread
Hi
My users are reporting that in public folders, emails that were past
read suddenly got unread, sometimes even after marking them as read
again. Didn't have such problems with 2.0.6 I think.
My dovecot -n:

# OS: Linux 2.6.26-2-xen-amd64 x86_64 Debian 5.0.6

Lots of huge matrices, for-loops, speed
Hello,
we have 80 text files with matrices. Each matrix represents a map (rows for
latitude and columns for longitude), the 80 maps represent steps in time. In
addition, we have a vector x of length 80. We would like to compute a
regression between matrices (response through time) and x and create maps
representing coefficients, r2 etc. Problem: the 80 matrices are of the size
4000 x 3500 and we

Backgroundrb spiking CPU after first run on Mongrel cluster
I''ve been troubleshooting this problem for several hours now and haven''t
been able to figure out what''s wrong. I have two boxes, dev and prod, both
are identical except that prod uses Ruby 1.8.5 and dev uses 1.8.4. Both are
running Slave 1.2.0, Daemons 1.0.5, and Backroundrb 0.2.1.
The behavior I''m seeing is this. When I first start Backgroundrb, this is

IO rate of tar-in, what can we expect on a qcow2 image?
Hi all,
We have done several speed tests on a qcow2 Linux Image to test how fast tar-in with a big
tarball can be. Virtio seems to be active, and we get transfers in a range from 100-160MB/sec,
independent of the disk speed on the host.
For example we had a 20 core host system with 900MB for serial writing and 350MB for mixed
read/write on the native filesystem. We've expected a faster

Zap Clocking - Frame Slips - tdm400p wcfxo zttest cpu spikes spandsp
I've made some modifications to zttest in order to use
it as a frame clock accuracy tester / slip detector.
I'm not certain if that was it's original purpose, but it
seems that a lot of folks try to use it that way.
The result is something that I'm calling ztclock for now
to help avoid confusion.
I'm including the source at the end of this post. You
can compile it by placing

Firefox and CPU spikes?
Is it just me, or does anyone else experience their CPU utilization
spiking to 100% for about 5 to 10 seconds when Firefox is about to
download a file, via http or ftp? Then, after the file starts to
download, the CPU usage drops back down to normal.
I've got Firefox 2.0.0.4 running on CentOS 4.4 32-bit.
Thanks.

Mongrel and EBADF error consuming resources
In the last few weeks I''ve noticed the load average spiking up for 5
minutes at a time (2-3.5 on a system that usually runs around
0.5-1.5). Looking closer I found that one mongrel process and
litespeed are at the top, and using strace I''ve found that they''re
passing the file below, seems to get stuck on single file/EBADF error.
It happens with a number of different

Question regarding dropped packets
Hi,
I''ve got a machine that''s hosting a number of virtual machines (58 + the
dom0) and I''m having some weird issues with packet loss and high latency
that happens when ksoftirqd spikes in CPU usage.
The machine itself is CentOS 5 x86_64 running the stock Xen packages
(3.1.2). It''s a dual quad-core w/ hyperthreading, 48 gigs of ram, and

Disaster Recovery Activity with Samba-AD-DC
Hi,
We increased the CPU count of one of the samba-ad servers in Data Center
B, and the problem seems to have come under control, despite an
observable delay. It is also observed that on one of the servers that
held PDC Emulator, naming, dnsname, forestdns FSMO roles, the CPU
consumption was consistently over 85% consistently and even spiking to
100% . Except samba-ad-dc, no other services
