I can receive but not send
I'm not too sure where to look here. I can access my mail via Dovecot and there is an initial requirement to accept an SSL key ( self signed ) however after I look in my inbox and read a piece of email ( via SeaMonkey eMail client ) I can not send. I simply get told that the server would not accept the smtp connection. I was hoping for a smtps connection but I'll take what I can get. Am I

Hi Matthias, Thanks for your hint! dbox with non-dovecot LDA
Aside from the code is there any documentation on using dbox with a non-Dovecot LDA? We have our own MTA and currently use Dovecot with Maildir only for message retrieval and just have our MTA write the message files to our own directory structure (Dovecot per user mailbox locations stored in mysql) but I am interested in looking at moving to dbox if it is better for performance and other

Wish-list: X-Delivered-To headers generated by dovecot-deliver
Would it be sensible/"cost effective" to make dovecot-deliver generated X-Delivered-To header(s) based on command line parameter(s)? [after striping such existing headers, before consulting sieve] I need it to: a) *clearly* mark POP/IMAP account fetched by fetchmail [with fetchmail using directly dovecot-deliver in --mda option] b) cleanly implement "shared mailboxes" with

init script as provided http://wiki2.dovecot.org/DovecotInit
Hello list, I would add: # dovecot Startup script for the dovecot server # # chkconfig: - # processname: dovecot # config: /path/to/config # pidfile: /path/to/pid So that it supports the chkconfig used by RHEL and clones too. Also, maybe it should be installed by the Makefile's install target? it could then also set: DAEMON=/path/to/dovecot/daemon instead of:

What would you tell the CIO in an "ABCs of Email" overview?
One of the key points that came up when I researched and wrote the "Five Things CIOs Should Know about Fighting Spam" article (http:// www.cio.com/article/28830) was that they should know the basics of how email works. Otherwise, said plenty of techies, the CIO won't have the first idea of what the email admin is complaining about. So I'm going to do my part. I'm

mta/mda config
Hi all, I'm at the stage of planning our new mail system and am evaluating dovecot for it. For large mailstore setups, it makes sense to split maildirs across many directories. I see that setting default_mail_env to something like maildir:/var/imap/domain/%1d/%d/%1u/user/%u/ would create almost identical on-disk layout as multidomain cyrus setup. Now, as dovecot does not have its own

Delivering locally through the Submission Server

New Dovecot service: SMTP Submission (RFC6409)
Hi, As some of you know, I started implementing the SMTP submission proxy a few years ago. It acts as a front-end for any MTA, adding the necessary functionality for an SMTP submission service, also known as a Mail Submission Agent (MSA) (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6409). The main reason I created this, back then, was implementing the BURL capability (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc4468). The

Shared Mailboxes, Per User SEEN flag and Mailing lists
Hi! Im making a small research about IMAP servers and it's features. As the subject suggests, I want make a shared mailbox, with per user \seen flag to work like a mailin-list works. The reason to use 1 shared folder is simple: Imagine 12k users sending 1KB messages each week, it will be 12+ MB of useless information. Many people told me that IMAP could do this, but now seem that it is a

lda fails in parse_angle_addr if sieve is enabled
Hi, Since updating to 2.3.1 on my FreeBSD mailserver mail delivery using lda is broken if I have sieve enabled. (Before updating this was 2.2 and pigeonhole 0.4) FreeBSD 11.1-p8 amd64 Dovecot 2.3.1 Pigeonhole 0.5.1 Mailflow is OpenSMTPd as MTA, using mda delivery to rspamc which utlimately delivers using dovecot-lda. smtpd.conf deliver to mda "rspamc -h scan --mime -e

writing an MDA, help me avoid corrupted indexes
Hello. First, I want to thank those responsible for Dovecot IMAP as it was a real treat to implement in comparison to my mostly-failed attempts with Cyrus. The passwd-file authentication was exactly what I needed as I really didn't want to have to deal with PAM or LDAP but where I am setting up a server with virtual accounts. I'm using Postfix as an MTA, and it quite handily passes

Replication for Pigeonhole ManageSieve
Hello, I currently have one machine running postfix SMTP server as MTA along with dovecot IMAP server for email. Although it only supports a handful of users, email service is important to us all; so I'm looking to make this a more fault-tolerant / highly-available system. To that end, I'm planning on configuring postfix to use deliver/dovecot-lda as my MDA (using procmail at the

maildirsize quota does not referred after migration from courier
Dear All, We would like to migrate our existing courier to dovecot. After reading document on website and doing some tests, here are some issues we met. 1. According the the wiki, it seems to imply that once migrating from courier to dovecot, pop3 users may "lost/forget" their download "index/ history" which cause them to download again old mails that are kept on
