securing dovecot proxy connections
The wiki <http://wiki.dovecot.org/PasswordDatabase/ExtraFields/Proxy> page says this: "The connections created to the destination server can't be TLS/SSL encrypted.". Hrmm. Right now, with perdition, I'm forcing the use of STARTTLS on the internal connections. I'd just as soon get rid of perdition (to have one less moving part in my architecture), but I need the

Complete migration from Cyrus on remote server
Hi All! I am working on a complete migration from an old solaris machine running Cyrus IMAP v2.3.14 and wish to migrate all users to a new ubuntu vm running Dovecot 2.0.19. What I have so far is a fully functional dovecot installation with LDAP / Dovecot SASL auth using Maildir++. My plan is to use Perdition IMAP proxy on a third host and migrate users a few at a time (see attached picture of

IMAP/POP3 server with proxy feature
We are currently evaluating the migration from a proprietary, legacy mail server onto Dovecot for 20,000+ virtual domains. This is a big job and we intend to do it by initially proxying connections through to the legacy server, and moving customers over in batches by turning off the proxy feature for them. In the manual it states "This model is still a bit unfinished in current code"

Bug#253861: logcheck: Please add support for imapproxy
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.22a Severity: wishlist There is no support for imapproxy, and it would be a great help if it was added. advices for a new installation
hello everyone, first of all, please forgive my bad english skill, I live in France. On our "old" Dovecot 1.x architecture, we have NFS shares between the front servers (MTA, IMAP...) and mail storage server. I've read some wiki2 pages that present the new director and imap proxy. But I'm still don't see things clearly, so I post here to have your advices to set-up a new mail

proxy configuration
Before I spend some time experimenting with what might be impossible, maybe someone can just tell me (either "how" or that it's impossible). I'd like to get perdition out of my environment (mainly to have one less moving part in my architecture). I'm looking at dovecot's built-in proxying. In my setup, I don't have dedicated front-end machines. A user can connect

IMAP-proxy or not with sogo webmail and dovecot backend
We've been collecting some stats to see what kind of benefits UP/SquirrelMail's IMAP Proxy in for our SOGo webmail users. Dovecot is running in High-performance mode http://wiki2.dovecot.org/LoginProcess with authentication caching http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/Caching During the weekend two servers (webmail3 and webmail4) has been running with local imapproxy and two servers

Proxying Performance vs imapproxy
Hi, I'm planning on a new mail infrastructure which constists of multiple 'frontends' running webmail & public access pop/imap, which would communicate over imap/pop to 'backend mail stores'. My original idea was to run dovecot on the backends, use a predition on the frontends to proxy imap/pop and also run imapproxy in front of webmail [squirrelmail]. I've since

Slow DNS warnings (proxy/auth)
Hello, I've just finished transiting our proxies from perdition to dovecot (2.1.7-7 Debian). Yesterday 12 messages (all within the same second) like this caught my attention: --- Apr 25 17:19:09 pp11 dovecot: auth: Warning: proxy(redacted at gol.com,xx.xx.xx.xx,<26hUEivbfQBlMrMS>): DNS lookup for mb04.dentaku.gol.com took 5.002 s --- Now this machine at that time was handling a load

Does Director only work with dovecot proxy?
I was reading "conf.d/10-director.conf" and it mentions Dovecot proxy. I've been using perdition in the past for my pop/imap proxying needs and wasn't sure if Director could also use perdition or if it only works with Dovecots proxying. Thanks!

Dovecot 2 and TCP-Keepalive
Hi! I am about to migrate a perdition-based IMAP/POP3 proxy to Dovecot. Unfortunately some users are behind a firewall/NAT setup which throws away seemingly idle TCP connections sooner than the established default of 24 hours (more likely after 30 minutes ...) resulting in all kinds of weird client behavior. And unfortunately? this firewall/NAT setup is outside of my control and I have no means

Post-migration questions
I just migrated from courier-imap to dovecot and dovecot is a lot faster. My only client is webmail on the same server as dovecot. Max ~10 users. Should I still run imapproxy like I did with courier? Does dovecot periodically empty the trash folder like courier does? I reduced the number of processes courier was running to save RAM and improve performance. Are there any performance tweaks I

Dovecot proxy in front of UWash?
Is it possible to use Dovecot frontends in front of UWash backends? I need a proxy pool ASAP. There is not sufficient time to migrate the backends for 40,000+ users so they have to stay UW for now. I have been looking at Perdition but concerned about performance under load. Dovecot looks really promising with it's non-forking mode. I need simple dumb frontends no local mail. Other

dovecot vs. Outlook Mobile
Hi, I am testing dovecot with Outlook Mobile 5 (OM5), which is currently not working. OM5 connects, says "NOOP" and "CAPABILITY", does login correctly and simply loggs out after that telling the user that it could not download any messages. When I put an imapproxy[0] in front of dovecot, OM5 works perfectly well. That leads me to the thought, that something in the way dovecot

Director proxy timeout
Timo, Is the director proxy inactivity timeout configurable? I just recently attempted to switch our production webmail's imapproxy system to use a pool of two directors and ran into problems with it apparently disconnecting them unexpectedly. I don't believe that it IDLEs, I think it just UNSELECTs to reset the state and then keeps the connection open until it's used again, or until

LDAP authentication

This is my configuration: hosts = my.server.local auth_bind = yes ldap_version = 3 base = CN=Person,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=company,DC=local scope = subtree user_attrs = \ =home=/home/imapproxy/%u, \ =mail=maildir:/home/imapproxy/%u pass_attrs = uid=%u, userPassword=%w
